Best DVDs of 2015
Lists from DVD Savant (Glenn Erickson) and DVD Talk. Savant listed 20 releases in order, while DVD Talk had 10 in order. Savant has a leaning/partiality for Sci-Fi/Horror, but that's not all the time. The DVD Talk selections are more mainstream. Both lists were part of their weekly emails sent the last week of Dec. The first twenty DVDs are Savant's with the remainder DVD Talk. Abbreviations: DS-DVD Savant; DT-DVD Talk. Position on each list follows the abbreviation. It should be noted that nothing was picked for both lists. Add-on Jan 11, 2016: DVDBeaver published two lists of 10 each noting Best Blu-rays and Standard DVDs. In their introduction, it was noted that some picks are not playable on US DVD machines (without some knowledge of how to make your player a Region Free Machine.) So the Blue-ray list of 10 are #31-40 here, and regular DVDs are #'d 41-50. The DVDBeaver lists include a few duplications of Savant & DVD Talk. Duplications are relisted here.

The real wizards here are the Special Effects technicians: Son/Willis O'Brien; Joe/O'Brien, Ray Harryhausen; Beast/Harryhausen; Them!/Ralph Ayres. Son is the weak link, but Them! still holds up and is great cinema. Joe and Beast are much above average especially considering the era when they were made.
