- DirectorSpike LeeStarsNick CannonTeyonah ParrisWesley SnipesA modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago, Illinois. An excellent idea but not really a good film. As a matter of fact, it is the worst film by Spike Lee I have watched. The film has many references to ancient Greek theatre (the colors, the narrator, groups of similar characters, the dialogs with rhymes), what is nice; I liked the idea of adapting a Greek comedy to violent Chicago. Additionally, the very first scene is beautifully filmed, quite impressive. Thought, there are more problems than qualities: too campy style, not a serious way of dealing with tje problem of women be treated as an object, many bad dialogs, quite cheesy scenes, annoying and also cheesy soundtrack, mostly stupid dance scenes, childish screenplay. This motion picture does deviates from competent, mature, sophidticated and socially engaged Spike Lee's filmmaking.

Our crew also traveled with Maria Bethânia to Santo Amaro, her hometown in the interior of Bahia, discovering particularities that inspired the creation of this Carnival, such as her peculiar religious universe, which congregates candomble and Catholicism, the parties inherited from the slaves, and the openness of her house to the local community.
