Nothing in it is wrong, although some depths are lacking.
  • Jason Scott Lee, Bombay, Lowell, Shadow, Casey, Buck, and Teddy in The Jungle Book (1994)

    3. The Jungle Book

    19941h 51mPG63Metascore

Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of Mowgli, the orphaned jungle boy raised by wild animals, and how he becomes king of the jungle.
DirectorStephen SommersStarsJason Scott LeeCary ElwesLena Headey
Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book may not hew as closely to the book as its title suggests, but it still offers an entertaining live-action take on a story best known in animated form.

    19981h 46mR
    6.1 (43K)

    DirectorStephen SommersStarsTreat WilliamsFamke JanssenAnthony Heald
The movie is essentially an "Alien" clone with a fresh paint job.
  • The Mummy (1999)

    7.1 (483K)

    DirectorStephen SommersStarsBrendan FraserRachel WeiszJohn Hannah
It's difficult to make a persuasive argument for The Mummy as any kind of meaningful cinematic achievement, but it's undeniably fun to watch.
  • Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, Oded Fehr, Dwayne Johnson, Patricia Velasquez, and Arnold Vosloo in The Mummy Returns (2001)

    6. The Mummy Returns

    20012h 10mPG-1348Metascore
    6.4 (358K)
The mummified body of Imhotep is shipped to a museum in London, where he once again wakes and begins his campaign of rage and terror.
    DirectorStephen SommersStarsBrendan FraserRachel WeiszJohn Hannah
In The Mummy Returns, the special effects are impressive, but the characters seem secondary to the computer generated imagery.
  • Kate Beckinsale, Shuler Hensley, Hugh Jackman, Richard Roxburgh, and Will Kemp in Van Helsing (2004)

    7. Van Helsing

    20042h 11mPG-1335Metascore

    DirectorStephen SommersStarsHugh JackmanKate BeckinsaleRichard Roxburgh
A hollow creature feature that suffers from CGI overload.
  • Christopher Eccleston, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lee Byung-hun, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Sienna Miller, and Channing Tatum in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

    8. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

    5.7 (218K)
An elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as G.I. Joe, operating out of The Pit, takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.
    DirectorStephen SommersStarsDennis QuaidChanning TatumMarlon Wayans
While fans of the Hasbro toy franchise may revel in a bit of nostalgia, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is largely a cartoonish, over-the-top action fest propelled by silly writing, inconsistent visual effects, and merely passable performances.
  • Anton Yelchin in Odd Thomas (2013)

    9. Odd Thomas

    20131h 37mPG-1345Metascore
    6.8 (60K)
In a California desert town, a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark, threatening forces.
    DirectorStephen SommersStarsAnton YelchinAshley SommersLeonor Varela
Anton Yelchin is the right man for the title role, but Odd Thomas suffers from a jumbled tone.
  • 10. When Worlds Collide

A rogue planet is discovered on a collision course for Earth, and mass hysteria of biblical proportions will break out in the streets once knowledge of the secret and impending doom is leaked to the public. But an astronomer discovers a second planet (Alpha) accompanying the first: Bronson Beta, named after its South African discoverer, Sven Bronson. Instruments find that Alpha is capable of sustaining life. Soliciting huge sums of money, billions of dollars from Philanthropist, Millionaires, Billionaires, the wealth of private capital, he and other scientist are scoffed at as they embark on a daring, near-impossible plan to build rocket ships (as many as can be constructed in the short time left) to transport a small group of people to the planet Alpha in order to populate it and ensure survival of the human race and its flora and animal species. With society disintegrating into chaos and madness, they continue their efforts and struggles to save what little of humanity they can and their lives!
    DirectorStephen Sommers
