- DirectorAlfred LindStarsRasmus OttesenEmilie OtterdahlLili BeckThe Flying Circus was the largest traveling artist band in the country, and among its favorite artists were the rope-dancer, Laurento and the snake tamer, Ula Kiri. The hot blooded gypsy snake tamer is passionately in love with the attractive young man, hut he does not quite return her feelings. She is hasty and ill-tempered, and not far from being cruel to those depending on her. For the first time the Flying Circus pitches its tents in a small country town. The daughter of the mayor attends. The rope dancer meets her and for him it is a case of love at first sight, and he decides to do all in his power to win her. That night a great fire breaks out in the town, and the flying embers ignite the home of the mayor. The townspeople strive to deflect the flames, but all in vain. The mansion is doomed to destruction and it seems that the mayor's daughter must perish. At this juncture Laurento beats his way through the flames and scales the wall, and, picking up the frantic maiden, jumps to the mesh of telegraph wires outside the window. Carrying his burden over the fragile wires, he saves her amid the frantic cheers of the populace. The grateful mayor makes him a welcome guest, and he soon wins the heart of the young girl, but he has yet to obtain the father's consent. He worries continually about this problem, and not even at home can he rest in peace, for Ula Kiri, who feels that her beloved friend is sliding away from her, keeps tormenting him with jealousy and mockery. At last he plucks up his courage and goes to the mayor. The latter is friendly to the young man, but he compels the rope dancer to leave with a vague promise for the future. If circumstances, should alter. A capital idea strikes the young man to obtain money. He arranges to do a rope dance to the church tower. The circus director is delighted with the idea. The great day arrives, and the people of the town gather around the church. The rope dancer cannot forget Erna's sorrowful eyes and pale face as he walks along the flaccid rope towards the dizzy height. A snake has escaped and its body bars the way to the entrance to the tower. The snake tamer has, in her mad jealousy, forgotten all about her duties, and this negligence now proves fatal. Erna implores her in vain to call back the reptile, as she is the only one that can do it, but Ula Kiri will not listen to her in her storm of jealousy and hatred. But Erna overcomes all difficulties. Her great love teaches her what to do, and thus she saves her sweetheart. The mayor can no longer withhold his consent to the marriage and the same evening the Flying Circus goes away to the other regions, leaving a happy couple in the country town.
- DirectorHanns Heinz EwersStellan RyeStarsPaul WegenerGrete BergerLyda SalmonovaBalduin, a student of Prague, leaves his roystering companions in the beer garden, when he finds he has reached the end of his resources. He is scarcely seated in a quiet corner when a hideous, shriveled-up old man taps him upon the shoulder and whispers vaguely of a big inheritance for Prague's finest swordsman and wildest student if he will enter into a certain agreement. Balduin rebuffs him, satirically asking his weird companion to procure him "the luckiest ticket in a lottery or a doweried wife." The old man goes off chuckling and thence onward persistently shadows Balduin, exerting a sinister influence over him, while Balduin is still disconsolate under the frowns of fortune. The Countess Margit Schwarzenberg, hunting with her cousin, to whom her father has betrothed her, meets with an accident. She is thrown over her horse's head into a river, but Balduin, who has been directed to the spot by his evil genius, plunges in and rescues her. Subsequently Balduin calls to inquire as to her condition at the castle of her father, the count, but be makes a hurried departure when Baron Waldis arrives, the contrast in their appearance discrediting him. His desire to win the countess and to humiliate the baron becomes so pronounced that he readily accedes to the compact suggested by Scapinelli, the old man, who has so pertinaciously dogged his footsteps, particularly when he learns that untold wealth and power will be his when he assigns to the other the right to take from his room whatever he chooses for his own use as he desires. The agreement is signed. Balduin receives a shower of gold and notes as his portion; Scapinelli takes Balduin's soul exposed in concrete form by his shadow. Balduin prosecutes his love affair assiduously and with apparent success, till the baron is informed of it by a jealous gypsy girl. He challenges Balduin to a duel, and the latter, assured of his superiority as a fencer, readily agrees. Count Schwarzenberg learns of the impending duel and appeals to Balduin not to kill "my sister's child, my daughter's future husband, and my heir." Balduin gives his promise, but when he goes to the venue of the duel he meets, his own counterpart stalking away derisively wiping his gory sword on his cloak. Balduin turns and in the far distance sees the dying victim of the deed he swore he would not do. He rushes from the spot horror-stricken. When he regains sufficient composure he makes his way to the castle of the count, but is refused admission. Determined to explain that he had no complicity in the death of the baron, Balduin climbs into a room in which the countess is seated. She receives him coldly, but soon succumbs to his ardent wooing. Just as he seeks to leave her she notices he has no shadow and that the mirror gives no reflection of him; and she drops back affrighted, the ghastly apparition of himself which takes shape in the corner of the room sends Balduin scuttling away from the castle in a paroxysm of terror. He makes a frenzied flight through a woodland estate and the streets of Prague, but wherever he stops to recover his breath he is haunted by the counterpart of himself. He reaches his rooms and draws a murderous looking fire-arm from its case. As the phantasmagorical figure strides towards him with a sinister grin, he fires, and in a few minutes the blood gushes from his own side from a fatal wound.
- DirectorRobert DinesenStarsAage HertelJohannes RingEbba ThomsenAfter months of secret toil by day and by night, Gar El Hama perfects a means by which to escape from prison. He succeeds at last in removing a slab from the floor of his cell and drops through a shaft to the engine room below. There he overpowers the engineer, dons the latter's clothing and is passed by the guard at the door on the pretense of going for oil. Free again, he sets out for a new adventure. Disguising himself, he attends a reception given by Consul Johanna. Meeting the Consul's daughter, he decides to abduct her and demand ransom. During the reception he examines her apartments, unlocking a window, and returns in the night, entering through this window with his assistants, and takes her aboard the schooner owned by him and his pirate gang. He then sends an unsigned letter to the Consul, stating that his daughter, Katherine, will be held until a ransom of $25,000 is placed at the foot of Victoria Monument, naming a time when it should be placed there. Katherine's fiancé, Lieutenant Erskin, sets out to find her. He is told by pilots that a girl was taken aboard a mysterious schooner the night before, so he charters a tug and goes in pursuit of the schooner. Gar El Hama and his gang arrive at Snake Island and take Katherine to their headquarters there. She escapes from the headquarters but is recaptured on the island and taken on board Gar El Hama's private yacht. Lieutenant Erskin and his friends arrive at the island, attacking the pirate gang. Gar El Hama escapes through an underground passage and Erskin, as he gropes his way through the dark tunnel in search of Gar El Hama, is captured by the latter and taken to the yacht also, and is bound and locked in a stateroom. He finds a lighted lamp with which he burns the ropes, and forcing the door, sets himself free. The pirates neglected to take his revolver, so he goes down to the engine room, locks the engineers in a closet at the point of his revolver and overpowers the fireman. He pours water on the fire and removes parts of the engines, disabling them, which brings the yacht to a standstill. He does this, knowing that his friends are in pursuit, in order that they may overtake the yacht. He steals up behind Gar El Hama, overpowers him, and then finds Katherine in the cabin. He seeks to defend her and himself from the pirates, but when Gar El Hama recovers, he and his men recapture and make prisoners of them both. Soon, however, Erskin's friends arrive, attacking and capturing Gar El Hama and the pirates, rescuing Erskin and his fiancée. The yacht is towed back by the tug, Katherine is restored to her home, and Gar El Hama is thrown into prison again.series (1911-)

At first he will not believe this to be true, but be soon understands that somebody is trying to reach the gold supply. The bank director is immediately sent for, and at once appearing, he soon ascertains that danger is imminent. In order to keep the case quiet, he does not inform the police, but seeks the assistance of the famous detective, Pat Corner, who promises to take the case in charge. A design of the bank and the nearest surroundings shows quickly to the acute detective that a subterranean passage to the bank must originate from a public house in the neighborhood. He at once sets to work to examine this public house, and in an old barn adjoining the bank he finds the entrance to a subterranean passage. The landlord tells him that an old blind beggar by the name of Teddy sometimes is allowed to take refuge in the barn during the night, and Pat Corner's next thing to do is now to find Teddy, who lives in an old, decayed house in the city. Teddy plays his part as blind man and cripple so well that the detective leaves him, quite bewildered, not knowing what to think, but when he comes back, one moment later, Teddy has disappeared. As Pat Corner cannot find the secret entrance to the fox's den, he fetches his assistant and tells him to keep watch, while he himself examines the surrounding yards, trying to find another entrance. When he comes back his assistant has also disappeared. After a close examination Pat Corner finds at last a place in the wall where he thinks the secret entrance might be found. He quickly fetches three policemen and they have the wall blown up with dynamite. Pat Corner is just in time to save his assistant from a terrible death and to arrest Teddy and his accomplice, thus preventing them from doing further mischief.

Turning to Edith and her fiance, he informs them that he has made the will in their favor, and that all his property will pass to them at his death. The count then goes to his room, and locking the door, enters a wardrobe which conceals a secret door leading to his friend Pendleton's apartments next door. He descends into the basement of his house, and thence to the cellar beneath Pendleton's room, and by means of a staircase and trapdoor in the floor of his friend's drawing room, gains access to his presence. He informs Pendleton that he has been made executor under the will, and acquaints him of the fact that should his daughter die without issue, the property will pass to him. The Count returns to his own dwelling, falls down the staircase and receives serious injuries. Pendleton carries the Count back to his bedroom, depositing him on the floor, returns to his own house. Later, the Count's servant attempts to gain admission to his masters room, but finds the door locked. Soon after, he breathes his last. Pendleton then determines to win Edith for himself and secure the property. He is peremptorily dismissed by her. Undaunted, Pendleton arranges with a shady doctor to kidnap Edith, and by introducing him as an attendant at her wedding with Baron Sternberg, combines to put his plan into action. After the return of the bridal party from the church, the doctor poisons a flower in a vase, and handing this to Edith, she becomes unconscious. She is removed to her boudoir, and her old servant is left in charge of her. Whilst the latter sleeps, the doctor through the aid of a secret panel near Edith's bedside, drugs her medicine and this renders her in a comatose state for four days. In the belief that she is dead, her body is removed to the family vault, from which she is later removed by Pendleton and his nefarious accomplice and taken to Pendleton's house. Here Pendleton once more makes advances to her and a thrilling struggle takes place, in which Edith gets the better of matters. Left alone, Edith tries to escape, but finds that both the doors and windows are locked. She overhears Pendleton and the doctor plotting her removal to Constantinople and with the diamond in her ring, scratches a message into the windowpane. Meanwhile, the Baron has invoked the aid of Newton, the celebrated detective, who, from a glance at the Count's will, connects Pendleton with the crime. Going to the police, he finds the doctor's photo among the official collection and learns he is a desperate criminal. Pendleton arranges with the doctor to murder Edith and her husband, and in order to do this the doctor goes to the Baron's house. Newton is reposing in bed in Edith's old room, and the doctor, sliding the secret panel, puts his arm through and is about to stab him, when his arm is seized. He however gets away, with Newton and a posse of police pursuing him. A battle ensues, but Pendleton and his companion escape, and fly with Edith to the train for Constantinople. Newton discovers the message on the window pane and with the police sets out for the railway station, arriving just in time to see it leave the station. Newton hops in an automobile and rides to a bridge where the train passes under. When the train comes along, he jumps from the bridge onto the roof of the coach car where he dives inside the car that holds Edith. A struggle ensues between Newton and the doctor on the rear of the platform, and Newton hurls the doctor onto the track. Returning to the carriage, he arrests Pendleton and Edith is returned to her husband and Newton is the hero of the day.

- DirectorVictorin-Hippolyte JassetStarsAlexandre ArquillièreAndré LiabelAttilio MaffeiPaulin Broquet, the great Parisian detective, has brought the notorious bandit, Zigomar, to justice. Determined not to let the law punish him, he had taken poison in the Hall of Justice. Then he was brought to a hospital where he lay motionless and was visited by hundreds of persons. Among the visitors was a slender woman, dressed in black, who secreted herself in the hospital, and, when all the others had gone, went to the bedside of Zigomar and administered an antidote for poisoning. She was none other than La Rosario, the accomplice of Zigomar. Almost instantaneous with the administering of the antidote, Zigomar opened his eyes and sprang from the bier. They were about to leave the room when the surgeon entered to take a portion of the skin from the bandit's arm, which was all the great detective desired as a recompense for the capture of Zigomar. But he was quickly pounced upon, gagged and placed upon the bier where he was found the next morning by the detective. Later the bandit set a trap for the infuriated Broquet into which he unsuspectingly fell. When the detective was in this predicament, Zigomar offered him $250,000 if he would let him alone. Not acquiescing in this, Zigomar then thrust his captive into an iron cage where he would have starved to death had it not been for the timely rescue by his lieutenant.

- DirectorVictorin-Hippolyte JassetStarsCharles KraussAlexandre ArquillièreAndré LiabelA sensational detective story, founded on the romance of Leon Sazie. The noted criminal who terrorized all Europe is shown in these three Zigomar reels in a dramatic and intense struggle for supremacy with Paulin Broquet, the celebrated detective, who takes the two in the most varied and finest resorts. It is literally a chase through the entire continent, with Broquet now having the upper hand and again Zigomar in its possession. Zigomar is the leader of a band of men who persist in plundering rich and poor. They know Broquet is on their trail and set a trap for him. However, he escapes, and in the melee which follows, when he nearly captures Zigomar, the latter also flees. A wonderful feature of this production is the "Will o' the Wisp" dance which the noted dancer, Esmée, performs at a ball in the Moulin Rouge in Paris. The festival begins by a magnificent procession, in which the dancer is carried in a litter, bedecked with jewels. In the succeeding darkness, tiny flames light up and Esmée appears clad in white veils. She appears in the semi-darkness as a white apparition. Then the dance becomes gayer, the dancer turns faster, like a flower with changing colors, and finally sinks exhausted to the floor. There are effects of colored light in this picture that never have been seen before. Immediately following there is a scene of great contrast when Zigomar sets fire to the place and the scene ends in wild disorder.

- DirectorArmand BourAndré CalmettesStarsAlbert LambertPaul MounetAlbert DieudonnéThe opening scene of this sacred picture shows the interior of the home of Mark, where Jesus and his apostles have gathered to eat the Paschal lamb. The sacred feast is spread and the little band take their places at the table with the Master in the center, who addresses his friends in words of love, Baying: "These things I command you, that you love one another!" Jesus then takes a towel and basin and sinks upon his knees to wash the feet of his apostles. Some of them object that the Master should humble himself so, but Jesus insists in order to teach them a lesson in humility. Coming to Judas, who is seated at the extreme end of the table with a sneering look on his face, Jesus bends and bathes his feet, but the latter lends himself with bad grace to the humble ceremony. The mercenary creature is ill at ease and drops his purse on the floor, whereupon Jesus picks it up and hands it back to him. Judas then opens the purse and shows his brethren how impoverished he is, for it is empty. Jesus again takes his place at the table, where, after breaking some bread, he passes it around, saying, "This is my body;" then taking a cup of wine he drinks and passes it also, saying. "This is my blood!" During the meal a bitter anxiety seems to hang over the little band, and Jesus is so deeply wrung with agony that he turns to those about him and says: "Verily, verily, 1 say unto you that one of you is about to betray me!" Immediately there is great consternation among the band and each apostle asks: "Lord is it I?" Even Judas joins with the others with inconceivable heartlessness and effrontery, asking also, "Lord is it I?" To which the Master makes answer: "Yes, it is you who shall betray me!" The other apostles on hearing this start in anger towards Judas, but Jesus, raising his hand, quells the disturbance, whereupon Judas arises from the table and defiantly leaves the room. At the approach of midnight. Jesus and his apostles leave the house and make their way to the Garden of Olives, where Jesus goes to pray. Judas, knowing that the Master would be there, manages to get to the garden first with the officers from the chief priests and Pharisees. After closing his bargain and receiving the money for his part in the treachery, Judas instructs the multitude to hide and come forth in due time and seize the man whom he shall kiss upon the cheek. Presently Jesus approaches with his apostles, and forthwith Judas greets him, saying: "Hail, Master!" and kisses him. The soldiers rush out from their hiding place and seize Jesus, and take him prisoner, while his apostles flee in terror. Judas is now seen standing with remorse and terror written on his countenance, and, as the soldiers retire with their innocent prisoner, the traitor falls in agony to the ground. Suddenly raising himself on his elbow he begins counting over the money he received for his part in the affair. Then, realizing all at once the enormity of his crime, the traitor becomes seized with indescribable remorse and writhes on the ground in agony, laughing, crying and praying to God for mercy. In his fancy he sees a vision of Jesus coming to him with compassion in his eyes and extending his hands in forgiveness. Unable to hear the terrible remorse any longer the traitor takes a rope hanging over a tree branch, slips the noose around his neck and thus ends his miserable existence.
