- DirectorShane MeadowsStarsPaddy ConsidineGary StretchToby KebbellA disaffected soldier returns to his hometown to get even with the thugs who brutalized his mentally-challenged brother years ago.Gritty, powerful and well-acted British chiller. Well worth seeing just once.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsSandra PeabodyLucy GranthamDavid HessTwo teenage girls heading to a rock concert for one's birthday try to score marijuana in the city, where they are kidnapped and brutalized by a gang of psychopathic convicts.Classic, nasty revenge horror from Wes Craven. The remake is worth a watch as well, although for the best experience I recommend the original.
- DirectorPierre MorelStarsLiam NeesonMaggie GraceFamke JanssenA retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris.A vey nice action-thriller starring the always impeccable Liam Neeson.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsChoi Min-sikYoo Ji-taeKang Hye-jeongAfter being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days.Possibly the best of the already infamous 'revenge trilogy' with great casting, an ingenious script and nasty special effects.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsSong Kang-hoShin Ha-kyunBae DoonaA recently laid off factory worker kidnaps his former boss' friend's daughter, hoping to use the ransom money to pay for his sister's kidney transplant.A very nice film in the 'revenge trilogy' which proves that extended action sequences and gore are most definetely not needed when making a fantastic revenge themed film.
- DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsNam-mi KangJeong-nam ChoiHye-Sook GoAfter being wrongfully imprisoned for thirteen years and having her child taken away from her, a woman seeks revenge through increasingly brutal means. On a visual standpoint, probably the most well-made part of the trilogy. Fantastic leading actress and excruciating violence makes this entry of the trilogy perhaps the most disturbing one.
- DirectorMichael WinnerStarsCharles BronsonHope LangeVincent GardeniaA New York City architect becomes a one-man vigilante squad after his wife is murdered by street punks. In self-defense, the vengeful man kills muggers on the mean streets after dark.Classic Charles Bronson revenge film which is well worth seeing. For the best experience, skip the sequels and watch only the original.
- DirectorAlex ProyasStarsBrandon LeeMichael WincottRochelle DavisA man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée's murder.A visual treat, this dark and rather depressing film does stand apart amongst all these fine revenge movies as one of the more artistic films.
- DirectorBrian HelgelandStarsMel GibsonGregg HenryMaria BelloAfter a successful heist, Porter is left for dead. Once he recovers, he seeks vengeance and wants his share of the money.Quite possibly my favorite action movie of all-time, which is only empowered by a fantastic performance by Mel Gibson in his last great main role.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineDaryl HannahAfter awakening from a four-year coma, a former assassin wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.Quentin Tarantino always makes for great entertainment, and Kill Bill is no exception. Most certainly not his best work, Kill Bill provides enough action, violence, and great acting to entertain.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineMichael MadsenThe Bride continues her quest of vengeance against her former boss and lover Bill, the reclusive bouncer Budd, and the treacherous, one-eyed Elle.Although not as action-packed as the first one, this conclusion to the film is certainly just as good (if not better) than the first entry. Highly recommended!
- DirectorMeir ZarchiStarsCamille KeatonEron TaborRichard PaceAn aspiring writer is repeatedly assaulted, humiliated, and left for dead by four men she systematically hunts down to seek revenge.Possibly the most sleazy film on the list, I find the original 'I spit on your grave' is certainly not without it's merits. The lead actress gives a fine performance and there are certainly some good elements to this nasty chiller from the 70's. If you like your horrorfilms, give this one a chance.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroNick NolteJessica LangeA convicted rapist, released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence, stalks the family of the lawyer who originally defended him.It might be blasphemy to lovers of the original film, but because I have not seen the original just yet, I will list the 1991 film which I greatly enjoyed. Fine performances by DeNiro, Nolte, Lange and Lewis are what makes this revenge themed film a great one.
- DirectorSam PeckinpahStarsDustin HoffmanSusan GeorgePeter VaughanA young American and his English wife come to rural England and face increasingly vicious local harassment. Both the original and remake are worth viewing, although the remake is inferior, to be fair it does provide more straight-forward entertainment.
- DirectorNeil JordanStarsJodie FosterTerrence HowardNaveen AndrewsStruggling to recover emotionally from a brutal assault that killed her fiancé and left her in a coma, a radio personality begins a quest for vengeance against the perpetrators that leaves a bloody trail across New York City.Certainly not the best film on this list, it does feature the always reliable Jodie Foster, an ok plot and some very nasty violence.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsKurt RussellZoë BellRosario DawsonTwo separate sets of voluptuous women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman who uses his "death proof" cars to execute his murderous plans. This is not the masterpiece some people make it out to be, but Death Proof does deserve some credit for being one of the more entertaining films I have ever seen in a movie theatre. Fun Tarantino 'snack' I would call it.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsSissy SpacekPiper LaurieAmy IrvingCarrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom. What could have been a hilariously ridiculous film somehow works as one of the better horror films ever made, thanks to DePalma, all the actors, a fine score and impeccable camerawork. Somehow everything just comes together and works like a charm. Very good revenge themed horrormovie.
- DirectorDavid SladeStarsPatrick WilsonElliot PageSandra OhHayley's a smart, charming teenage girl. Jeff's a handsome, smooth fashion photographer. An Internet chat, a coffee shop meet-up, an impromptu fashion shoot back at Jeff's place. Jeff thinks it's his lucky night. He's in for a surprise.Quite disturbing little independent film that has grown into a sleeper hit, and deservedly so. Film features memorable performances by its leads and a good script make this one very recommended and satisfying.
- DirectorRobert M. YoungStarsFarrah FawcettJames RussoAlfre WoodardA woman takes revenge on the man who invades her home and tries to rape her.Good movie with a surprisingly solid Farrah Fawcett.
- DirectorJim AbrahamsDavid ZuckerJerry ZuckerStarsBette MidlerDanny DeVitoJudge ReinholdA couple cheated by a vile businessman kidnaps his wife in retaliation, not knowing that their enemy is delighted that they did.Although a bit too childish for it's own good at times, this is still a truly hilarious film with great roles from Bette Midler and Danny DeVito.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsJeff BridgesMatt DamonHailee SteinfeldA stubborn teenager enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal to track down her father's murderer. An entertaining and nice film from the talented Coen Brothers. Most definetely not their best film, it is still one hell of an entertaining revenge movie. Recommended
- DirectorMike HodgesStarsMichael CaineIan HendryBritt EklandWhen his brother dies under mysterious circumstances in a car accident, London gangster Jack Carter travels to Newcastle to investigate.A fine, classic suspense starring the always fantastic Michael Caine. One of the better films on this list and one of the better films, period.
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsMatthew McConaugheySandra BullockSamuel L. JacksonIn Canton, Mississippi, a fearless young lawyer and his assistant defend a black man accused of murdering two white men who raped his ten-year-old daughter, inciting violent retribution and revenge from the Ku Klux Klan.A powerful film with an especially good Samuel L. Jackson. Worth a look.
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodGene HackmanMorgan FreemanRetired Old West gunslinger William Munny reluctantly takes on one last job, with the help of his old partner Ned Logan and a young man, The "Schofield Kid."Perhaps the finest film on the list, this one is classic and stars many of the cinema greats of bygone times.
- DirectorJack HillStarsPam GrierBooker BradshawRobert DoQuiA sexy Black nurse takes vigilante justice against inner-city drug dealers after her sister becomes their latest victim.A groovy and extremely entertaining 70's romp starring a busty Pam Grier. One of the more entertaining films on the list and most certainly worth seeing in my opinion.
