mystrey-the mind tickling genre

There are times when you feel you missed the golden time when legendary film-noirs like Double Indemnity came into being. And then you are relived by the thought that you witnessed the time when Memento was born.Just when you thought film-noir was dead and buried, along comes the memorably mind-bending Memento.

This film hardly needs introduction.Nolan announced his arrival with this classic neo-noir mystery. Its a puzzle in which you see the finished puzzle right up front and then watch as it disassembles itself.

This will be the first of films with which the master storyteller Nolan would introduce the world with his intricate, diligent and peerless story-telling techniques. The Prestige and Inception are the next two episodes...

Its a rare fusion...for me it could never have been better...the legend Sir Al Pacino(I prefer calling him that....dont you? Shame!)...master storyteller Christopher Nolan...and my favorite genre-Psychological Drama(Thriller). I could not have asked for more!

Never before I ever saw such a psycho analysis of a character. Sir Pacino's character is hopeless, volatile, well-meaning, weak, angry, and very, very tired. He's memorable. The very prospect that he plays a haggard man who staggers deeper into moral and physical sleeplessness is so overwhelming, that the film claims you even before you watch it! No film ever traced such a psychological damning of character this beautifully.

Insomnia is an anti-film noir. What else do you expect with a film where the merciless sun never sets. But Nolan along with his cinematographer Wally Pfister shows how a "film bright" can be as dramatic, oppressive and revealing as film noir!
Thats the best I can say about a film which is one of my most favorite films.Its mystery genre at its best...conventional, Nolan and Sir Pacino!

What a vision man...whenever I sit and think about this masterpiece i always fall short of adjectives... A man aging backwards whose future is mental regression...A girl Daisy whose life is a physical decay (like all human beings)....their trajectories intersect...and the result is The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.....

I've special regard for David Fincher...it all started with The Game and it grew with Fight Club and then Se7en and Zodiac. His vision, his characters his screenplay enthrall me...they get etched to my mind(or heart probably...damn!)...periodically come to their being...asking me to think about them, asking me understand the psyche of Douglas in the game, Pitt in TCCBB, Norton in fight club. I've never felt that...not even with Christopher Nolan.

When I saw this film..I knew that just like Scorsese's films it will take lifetime for me to understand the spritual aspects and the philosophy of the film.No regrets, I'm ready for that.

I also knew i've lost it...the three hours when i got to see the film for the first time. If time flowed backward for me as it does for Brad Pitt in the film I would have been almost three hours younger by the time the end credits rolled around. Alas no such luck on that score!

A perfect example of bent reality...The plot is extremely intriguing and its secrets and mysteries are unveiled slowly-ideal for mystery lovers.

Kidman, her hair styled into a chaste postwar curl that gives her the aura of a Grace Kelly suffering from repressed hysteria is a real delight.

The Others, like its popular predecessors The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects, keeps us (here, literally) in the dark for the entire movie and then, just before everyone packs up to leave, throws a shocking curve our way making us rethink everything we have just seen; and when it is done right, leaves us pleasantly choked by the feeling that "THEY GOT ME!"

You guys have no idea how happy I am to add a Martin Scorsese film in my list...OK its not the masters best film....but Shutter Island being a perfect genre thriller represent the Scorsese at his most unrestrained....A different Scorsese who is experimenting!!

Shutter Island deals better in mood and atmosphere than in narrative coherence-making it a perfect genre mystrey thriller in traditional way. The editing, lighting and subjective camera angles leave the viewer just disoriented enough to keep tangeled.

In the end, Shutter Island rattles your cage and leaves you fumbling for a firm place to stand. It entangles illusion and perception, sanity and madness as only pure cinema can.This is among Scorsese's many gifts: Even when he's not crafting a masterpiece, he reminds you that the movies possess uncanny powers to screw your minds like hell.

David Fincher is one of a kind filmmaker. He has this uncanny ability to make 'Poetic Thrillers'. Apart from an extremly taut screenplay-devoid of any loopholes,his films suceed in portraying the subtle transitions of character's psyche and his way of looking at the life.The Game, a classic shows this ability of Fincher.

The Game is a journey- a transition. The way Douglas disintegrates against the pressure of a constant and unknown threat...is a real delight-something only Michael Douglas can portray.It is an extremely tense, grim and stylish thriller.If you are claustrophobic, like me....it just doubles the experience- ordinary locations turn into frightening backdrops making the atmosphere all more tense.Its a rare gift very few directors have-evoking the claustrophobic feeling in you with frenzy cinematography.

When I said The Game is a transition, I meant it.Douglas' life of comfort and convenience is shattered and his heart opens. And more importantly a claustrophobic psychological thriller becomes a spiritual quest. Watch The Game for these transitions
