Marshal Morgan orders the arrest of Ed Martin based a tip that part of the loot from a bank robbery would be found in his desk. When a member of Martin's church pleads with Morgan to reopen the case, the lawman starts digging deeper into the alibis of the other possible perpetrators and uncovers interesting new evidence.

Convinced of his friend's innocence, a friend disguised as a minister switches places with a suspect accused of mail robbery and murder and allows him to escape. While Marshal Morgan's men search for the escapee, another man who was implicated in the crime is found recently shot to death along with mail sack containing part of the loot.

Stopping in Virginia City, Tom sees brutal Sam Brown almost knife a man to death when the man challenges Brown's bet against celebrated actress Adah Isaacs Menken's planned ride on a black stallion. When Tom defends Brown's victim, the killer announces his intention to make Tom his next killing. Meanwhile, Tom becomes involved in the search for Miss Menken's black stallion, which has escaped from his stable---and he also gets involved with the beautiful Miss Menken herself. This story is loosely (very loosely) based on historical fact, as Miss Menken, Sam Brown, and Benecia Boy Heenan were real historical figures.

A trio of criminals try to off one of their own but leave him paralyzed by the roadside. Later, Ferguson is kidnapped by the trio as they try to escape to Mexico.

An armored car containing over $300,000 is stolen in a robbery executed with military precision. Morgan is stymied when the truck disappears before hitting any of his roadblocks. His only clue is the burn a secretary receives when she accidentally grabs a car's hot tailpipe while hiding from bullets whizzing overhead

Trio of hoodlums work with an inside man to steal the company gold. They immediately murder the inside man to prevent any linkage to him. The plan backfires when Morgan has a portrait reconstructed which establishes the link to the dead man.

Beau and an old man riding with him are both captured and accused of being horse thieves, in Beau's case, one Benson January. Despite the efforts of a young lawyer (who may or may not be Tom Brewster), Beau is sentenced to hang. His fate may depend on a young woman - the sister of the girl January was engaged to. But will she be willing to help?

Angry with the way a beautiful deaf-mute girl is treated by her father, a sheepherder living in a remote mountain cabin, Little Joe takes it upon himself to teach her sign language so they can communicate better. His plan backfires when the young woman falls in love with him and the girl's brutish neighbor resents her lavishing attention on the youngest Cartwright.

Bronco takes a job herding cattle cars, working for an arrogant boss who has a beautiful and flirtatious younger wife. During a fight, the boss falls off the train, and Bronco is blamed, but the man's body can't be found.

Tom is hired by an elderly Chinese man to help him bring his son's cremains back to China. The leader of a San Francisco gang, however, threatens Tom's life if he continues to assist the old man. Turns out that along with his son, the old man is delivering a map which the gang is after.

Ex-insurance investigator Sykes reports to Marshal Morgan that he's pursuing a crook who stole $100,000 in a bungled payout that cost Sykes his job. Suspiciously, that crook is soon found dead along the roadside with the money missing.

A federal witness is murdered in New Mexico. When the suspects are spotted in Arizona, Marshal Morgan mobilizes his men to track the pair. One of the killers is captured in a garage, but the other, an oily ladies' man, hides out a remote farm and woos its pretty, but gullible, owner.

An eccentric millionaire thwarts a safecracker's attempt to steal the hundreds of thousands of dollars he has hidden in his wall safe. But after Morgan and his men round up the gang, the safe is robbed anyway. Evidence points to an inside job - possibly a safecracker thought to be dead for almost ten years.

Hoss is riding back from his sweetheart Cameo's house when he comes up on a group of men that have just killed a young couple. Hoss recognizes one of the men as his friend Jim Applegate. Hoss is torn between his friend and the law.

Joe is accused of murdering a girl. Her father and brothers want to hang Joe, and the Cartwrights race to prove his innocence.

*SPOILERS* The Cartwrights challenge an arrogant and cruel British prizefighter, the Duke, and his alcoholic manager to a bout with John Heenan (the Benicia Boy), after the Cartwrights' meek friend J.D. gets pulverized by the Duke in a bar-fight. J.D. is adored by saloon girl Marge, but he has been too shy to return her affections. While the Cartwrights wait to see if Heenan will actually take the bout and come from San Francisco, the Duke pursues Marge and assaults her when she rebuffs him. When the manager comes to Marge's rescue, he too is beaten up by the Duke (who, it turns out, is the manager's brother). Infuriated by all this, Hoss Cartwright himself challenges the Duke, and knocks him out in the fourth round of a bare-knuckle fight refereed by Sheriff Roy Coffee. The Duke and his brother-manager reconcile in the humility of defeat, then learn that the Benicia Boy will accept the proposed bout, but only the Duke comes to San Francisco. The Duke apologizes to all he has offended while in Virginia City and heads west to fight Heenan.

Jennifer Flinch and her uncle Gideon come to Virginia City on the stage to see a client named Bullet Head Burke. They need to explain why his $5K investment has all been spent. Through a case of mistaken identity, now Bullet Head must figure out who is the real Gideon Flinch.

The Cartwrights join to help mystical blacksmith Sam Hill save the land his drunk, sea-dog father signed away to an old enemy, discover the circumstances behind his mother's death, and solve the mystery of why a tropical tree flourishes in spite of cold Nevada winters.

Hoss and Joe "rob" a bank for altruistic reasons and are pursued not by the law but by a more serious force, Ben and Adam.

When the Army paymaster is killed, the new lieutenant in charge tries to pull rank on Troop, neither of them knowing that an old lawman friend of Dan's is in town and his friends don't look like they're after beaver as they claim.

Hoss gets diverted by a hydrogen-filled balloon while a family friend robs the Virginia City bank.

A gambler and a prostitute become business partners in a remote Old West mining town, and their enterprise thrives until a large corporation arrives on the scene.

A cynical Buffalo Bill hires Sitting Bull to exploit him and add his credibility to the distorted view of history presented in his Wild West Show.
