The year is 1942 and Advocate M.L. Gupta lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his wife, Maya, in Churchgate, Bombay. With Kishore being recruited by Gupta to tutor an irresponsible Johar, who instead of becoming an Advocate, has forsaken the worldly possessions, and become a Sadhu. Kishore soon finds out that Johar is pulling wool over his dad's eyes, both become friends and woo two young women, Asha and Lata respectively. The two women live with their respective widower dads, Major Champala Rai and Diwan Jeevanlal. Johar hires a private investigator to try and locate his mom, then elopes with Lata and marries her much to the chagrin of her dad who wants her to marry a man named Pran. Johar does find his mother living with Kishore but before he could inform her that he is her son, she is arrested for killing Jeevanlal, and the eye-witness is none other than Lata.

Pritam works as a Book-keeper in an Export Import Firm and does not have a roof to live under. When he goes to search for accommodation, he runs into a friend, Jagdish, who takes him to a rooming house and lets him share one room with himself, Kavi Viyogi, and Hhimsen. Heart-broken and devastated he is severely depressed, until his co-workers decide that he should go for a picnic and this does cheer him considerably. In this cheerful state he returns home and decides to carry on with life without Meena. It is then Meena returns back, quite very much alive, and finds that Pritam is not in a state of mourning but is enjoying life to the fullest. She decides to teach him a lesson that he will never forget. Watch what happens when the lesson commences and what impact this has on our care-free friend - who is currently wooing a dancer by the name of Edna Wong.

In his quest for a heir, Rai Bahadur has an affair with a prostitute Meher. When Meher becomes pregnant he promises to take the child and educate him. But fate has other plans, for his wife Meena also becomes pregnant at the same time, and shortly thereafter both women give birth to two boys. Meher threatens to expose him if he does not take her son, and leave Meena's son in an orphanage. However, both children end up in his palatial home. He belittles Meher's son and finally accuses him of stealing. Fed up of these accusations, Meena leaves the house with Kishore, and ironically ends up with Meher. In the meantime, Rai's son has grown up to be an arrogant, and a champion boxer. And it is in the boxing ring that both half-brothers will meet again -- for a match of their lives -- as the trophy is none other than the beautiful Mala -- who both love and hope to marry.

Kishore's dad is a miser, busy accumulating money by hook or by crook. He lives in a palatial house with his wife and Kishore. He would like Kishore to marry the only daughter of a very wealthy man, so that he gets a hefty dowry, as well as the vast property and assets when the woman's parents pass away. Kishore wants Mala to marry him, but Mala will only marry when their respective families approve of them, so Kishore has to come up with a scheme to pull wool over his money-minded father - which he does - with hilarious results.
