DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsTom HardyKelly AdamsLuing Andrews
A very funny take on a menacing character. Loved this film mainly because of Tom Hardy super acting. This makes me very excited for his take on Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

    DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsJulianne MooreClive OwenChiwetel Ejiofor
Still haven't met anyone who has seen this brilliant film yet. It's dark, touching and scary all at the same time. The same director as the best Harry Potter film as well (Prisoner of Azkaban), Alfonso Cuarón.
  • Dwayne Johnson in Gridiron Gang (2006)

Loved this film. Has moments very similar to Remember The Titans (another great American Football film). The Rock, sorry Dwayne Johnson's performance is one of his best. Please Mr Johnson stop doing kid films and focus on more serious ones.

Christopher Nolan's first ever feature length film, is a masterpiece in storytelling - that helped him with success in the Batman films, Prestige and Inception. Told completely out of order, this is the type of film that you have to focus on.
  • Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., John Mahoney, Christopher McDonald, Vin Diesel, Bob Bergen, and Eli Marienthal in The Iron Giant (1999)

This was one of my favourite films as a kid, with great themes - that still ring true nowadays. Brad Bird (M:I4 director) can do no wrong in my eyes - this film and Incredibles.
  • Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson in The Island (2005)

Half the budget went to marketing this film!!! Does anybody remember anything about the marketing campaigns? OK, Michael Bay is one of those directors who wants you to sit back and enjoy a film so this is a great film to watch on a Saturday night whilst eating a slice of pizza

OK I'm guessing most people have seen this film, as it's on the BBC every week but some still haven't. A ballsy, slick film that makes you adore Nicolas Cage again.

    DirectorSusan StromanStarsNathan LaneMatthew BroderickUma Thurman
The best musical I have ever seen. Normally can't stand anything with dancing and singing in but this has laugh out loud dialogue, brilliant songs and Will Ferrell playing a German.
  • Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler in Reign Over Me (2007)

    14. Reign Over Me

DirectorMike BinderStarsAdam SandlerDon CheadleJada Pinkett Smith
One of only two films I have cried watching (the other being Click, don't judge). Adam Sandler plays a serious (yes, serious) character who loses his family in 9/11 and refuses to accept that. Breathtaking performances, lovely cinematography and a cracking soundtrack.
  • The Road to El Dorado (2000)

One of my favourite films growing up. Elton John soundtrack, a search for a city of gold leads to the main characters being seen as mighty gods.

Widely regarded as the best film ever made - even though not many people have seen it. Thousands of films borrow action pieces, jokes and the storyline from this masterpiece.
  • Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

    DirectorMarc ForsterStarsWill FerrellEmma ThompsonDustin Hoffman
Brought this film for my mum because she loves Emma Thompson but ended up watching it myself and found it fascinating. Great ideas, emotionally deep characters and Will Ferrell playing straight. Brilliant.

At the height of World War II, a tiny wood pigeon enlists in the elite Royal Homing Pigeon Service to serve Britain, as the fearsome General Von Talon (Tim Curry) and his deadly squadron of falcons patrol the English Channel. Is he a war-hero in the making?
    DirectorGary ChapmanStarsEwan McGregorRicky GervaisTim Curry
Not many people went to the cinema to see this pigeon war film and I can understand why. There was no marketing for it. I got this for Christmas because I love Ricky Gervais and it's no where near an awesome film but it's alright. The jokes are very British and the action is thrilling.
  • George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson in O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

    19. O Brother, Where Art Thou?

    20001h 47mPG-1369Metascore

In the deep south during the 1930s, three escaped convicts search for hidden treasure while a relentless lawman pursues them.
DirectorsJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsGeorge ClooneyJohn TurturroTim Blake Nelson
Saw this film in my US Cinema class and wrote a thesis on it about the Coen brothers being modern day autuers. This is very similar to a modern day road trip film where George Clooney (who I never really rated until watching this movie) has to get back to his wife - similar to Homer's Odyssey. A toe tapping movie that is awesome.
  • Cemetery Junction (2010)

    20. Cemetery Junction

A 1970s-set comedy centered on three young working class friends in a dreary suburb of Reading.
DirectorsRicky GervaisStephen MerchantStarsChristian CookeFelicity JonesTom Hughes
Really annoyed that I missed this film in the cinema because it's a masterpiece. The story isnt the greatest but I loved everything Gervais and Merchant have done before. Though the jokes are great, the movie is more of an emotional journey and it's plays on your heart strings. Great film.
  • Four Lions (2010)

    21. Four Lions

Four incompetent British terrorists set out to train for and commit an act of terror.
    DirectorChristopher MorrisStarsWill AdamsdaleRiz AhmedAdeel Akhtar
Maybe the smartest (and bravest) idea for a film ever. Four Lions is a comic look at terrorists in the UK, and, boy, is it a comic look. One of the funniest films of all time. Absolutely a dark/black comedy but it's well worth it.
  • Noomi Rapace in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)

    22. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

DirectorNiels Arden OplevStarsMichael NyqvistNoomi RapaceEwa Fröling
I sure everyone has heard of this film but has never seen it (or is waiting for the Hollywood remake) but the original one from Sweden, is brilliant. 100% darker than I thought it was going to be but thats why I liked it. Watch this verision before going to the remake next year.
  • Let the Right One In (2008)

A bullied boy forms a unique friendship with his new neighbor, who is a vampire.
    DirectorTomas AlfredsonStarsKåre HedebrantLina LeanderssonPer Ragnar
Again this film was Hollywood-isd last year with Let Me In. I watched this with subtitles on and the film didn't disappoint. A chilling story that makes you wary of the neighbour's little girl incase she is a vampire.
  • Paycheck (2003)

    24. Paycheck

    20031h 59mPG-1343Metascore
    6.3 (116K)
A technical wizard learns that his memory has been erased.
    DirectorJohn WooStarsBen AffleckAaron EckhartUma Thurman
If you love Bourne films, you are going to think this is a rip off. But I'm not a the biggest fan of Jason Bourne and I loved this. John Woo directed this 'Memory Loss Action' film. Action set pieces are a bit boring, storyline isnt the greatest but I liked it.
