Lots of love for this glorious power ballad that swept the world in 1985, but gotta admit that watching the music video for "So Far Away" can
be a somewhat bizarre experience. Consider the feelings brought by the song, all the trouble and distance felt by our narrator while far apart for
his loved one, and then...Dire Straits members appear all happily singing, having fun with each other, jolly times that don't fit with the song's
narrative. Maybe it's just me and my weird modes speaking high notes on how contradictory ideas can't ruin the ideas and notions of a video.
But I love the song, its rhythm and everything about it and never got tired of it through all these 20-something years (different generation
here, that I cannot disapprove the clip. Along with the shiny happy band members playing around, there's also amazing aerial images of New York in
shades of blue and filmed in a slow manner. No drones used, baby. Helicopters and cranes shots and that must have cost a fortune. Still, we're only in
it for the song and for a quick cute shot of Mark Knopfler making a peace sign halfway through. And gotta admit, "Brothers in Arms" which includes this
song is a massive beast of an album, one of the greatest of all time. 8/10.
