However, the actor recently admitted that he is planning to retire from action movies. Neeson acknowledged that he is 72 years old now, and doesn't want to film an action movie if he can't even do most of his stunts. Therefore, Neeson predicted he would retire from action films by the end of 2025.

While Neeson's name has become quite synonymous with the action genre in recent years, he actually did not get his start in action films. It was 2008's Taken that led Neeson further and further into the action genre. Taken grossed $226 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of just $25 million, so it only made sense for Neeson to star in more action movies.

“Venom: The Last Dance” topped the box office again as newcomer “Here,” a fantasy drama that uses AI so Tom Hanks and Robin Wright can play younger (and older) versions of themselves, fizzled in its debut.

“Here,” which was produced and financed by Miramax and distributed by Sony, opened in fifth place with $5 million from 2,647 North American theaters. The film, which reunites the “Forrest Gump” co-stars with their director Robert Zemeckis, follows the inhabitants of a single house over the course of 100 years — allowing Hanks and Wright to portray teenagers and octogenarians across 105 minutes thanks to de-aging technology. Critics and audiences rejected the movie with a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes and “B-” grade on CinemaScore. So, word-of-mouth may not help bolster attention for “Here” in its box office run. The movie cost $45 million and needs a long life in theaters to justify that price tag.

What’s a little strange about this November kick-off weekend is that there are not one, not two, but three movies from filmmakers who have directed movies that won Best Picture at the Oscars. And yet, only one of them is getting a wide theatrical release and is bound to report box office.

That movie is “Here,” based on the graphic novel by Richard McGuire. It reunites “Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis with two of his stars, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, as well as Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, for a unique family drama that essentially keeps the camera in place to show the events of a specific Philly location over time.

Oscar nominee Liam Neeson returns to the action thriller genre in Absolution, which finds the Taken star on wonderfully familiar ground as a formerly violent man seeking redemption. Several reviews for Absolution, which was previously titled Thug, have now emerged, so how does Neesons latest foray into action movies fare against the likes of the Taken series, The Marksman, and the rest?

The creator of the John Wick franchise has united two fan favorite stars of the genre for a new movie that just might become the next big action franchise. The project is lined up through FilmNation Entertainment's Infrared production label with sales set to launch next week at the American Film Market in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Per Deadline, Derek Kolstad who wrote the first two John Wick movies and co-wrote the third is penning the screenplay for Painter, an action movie that's being described as a potential "franchise starter." Stunt specialist Garrett Warren will be helming the film, making his directorial debut. Lined up for the leading roles are Amber Midthunder and Alan Ritchson. Ritchson and Kolstad are also producing alongside Drew Simon, Josh Adler, and Dan Spilo.

At some point during the first act of Robert Lorenz’s handsome but egregiously hackneyed “In the Land of Saints and Sinners,” which is maybe the 900th Liam Neeson movie about a weary hitman/rancher/fixer/truck driver/ex-cop/very tall person who decides to take matters into his own hands when some bad guys step over the line, the prolific Irish actor turns to one of his scene partners and sighs: “There’s more to me than this, and I’d like folks to see it.”

Needless to say, the first part of that sentence is much easier to believe than the second.

Cast here as a regretful assassin who tries to change his ways at the height of the Troubles (only to get mixed up with a trio of Ira terrorists who take cover in his quaint coastal village after a car bomb goes wrong), Neeson again reaffirms...

Review: I know what you’re thinking – another Liam Neeson action flick. Ho-hum. Normally, I’d be right there with you. While no one can deny he’s become the 21st century’s version of Charles Bronson, with him churning out a steady diet of B-level action flicks, not all of them are disposable in the way something like Blacklight, Honest Thief, Retribution and too many others are. In the Land of Saints and Sinners is very beautiful for a thriller. A lot of that is thanks to the gorgeous Irish coastland where the film is set, and the way director Robert Lorenz films it. Lorenz was most famous for producing Clint Eastwood's output over the past 25 years, but has come into his own as a director with films like Trouble with the Curve and The Marksman. That latter film starred Liam Neeson, who reunites with Lorenz in this new film about a hitman who becomes the target of a radical faction of the I.R.A. in Northern Ireland circa 1974.

Lorenz spoke with MovieWeb about making the film and the importance of its Irish cast and crew, and discussed the greatness of Kerry Condon and Liam Neeson.

Deep Fear, not to be confused with last year’s film about monsters under the streets of Paris (which is probably why they added the “Sharks vs Narcs” subtitle to the film for its digital release), is a call back to the shark films of the past. Not to Jaws or its imitators but to something earlier, like Shark!, Shark’s Treasure, and The Deep where the sharks were a secondary plot element, an added threat for the protagonists to face in addition to other humans.

The paddywhackery’s as thick as the Oirish brogues and flavorful caricatures in Robert Lorenz’s In the Land of Saints & Sinners, a deadly serious thriller about violence and redemption in which a local lush pauses to grab his pint as gunfire tears up the village pub. Not since the merry blarney of Wild Mountain Thyme has a movie leaned so hard into Emerald Isle stereotypes, which makes it remarkable that Liam Neeson as a pipe-smoking, Dostoevsky-reading assassin manages to play it straight. Kerry Condon as an Ira spitfire with a fondness for the C-word adds some interest, but this is overwritten, overripe and likely destined to be streaming fodder.
