- Slow Dancing is one of two promotional videos from Lindsey Buckingham's second solo album, Go Insane, released in 1984. It shows Lindsey in a haunted mansion, interacting with a number of ghosts until one of the ghosts touches him and she becomes real.
The video opens with s moody image of a full moon largely covered by clouds that drift across the scene. The moon shines upon a haunted mansion. Through the mullioned windows, we can see Lindsey standing in period dress (a tailcoat, white open-necked shirt, tight fitting breeches and knee-high boots) as he looks out the window.
He turns away from the window and goes to sit in a high-backed armchair, where he lights candles. In the background, we can see a ghost outside the window, unseen by Lindsey, although he can obviously feel their presence. When he stands and turns to look out the window, there is a sudden burst of light and he puts his hands up to cover his eyes. When he looks again, he can see a spectral woman in a period gown, dancing in front of him. As he reaches for her, she disappears and he ends up wrapping his arms around himself instead.
As he wanders the room, pulling dust cloths off of furniture, you can see other ghosts appearing briefly, then disappearing, all unseen by Lindsey. He sits down, holding a music box with moving figures that look like him and a woman like the one that he tried to dance with. He turns to look outside, where two lines of dancers appear in period costume, performing an intricate dance.
When Lindsey goes outside, he is approached by another spectral woman, who taps him on the shoulder. When he turns to face her, she twirls before him before reaching out to touch his hand. As soon as their hands touch, she becomes real, and they dance together. Their dance turns into an embrace and kissing. The final scenes cut between scenes of Lindsey dancing with his spectral woman companion and the music box which shows the same couple twirling together.
