Kevin Smith Has Been Writing Dogma 2, But There Will Be Two Major Changes In The Sequel
Image
For the longest time, word about what might be happening with the 1999 Kevin Smith opus "Dogma" was nil. Trapped in the clutches of the Weinstein Brothers, it seemed that the original movie was likely to never be re-released in theaters or on physical or streaming media, never mind the long-rumored sequel coming to pass. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of Iconic Events and others, Smith has regained control of the film and as such, has embarked on a massive multi-city tour, showing a spiffy new restoration of the movie as well as appearing in super-sized post-screening Q&a sessions. Both this writer and /Film's Ethan Anderton were lucky to attend a couple of these screenings, and got to hear some fascinating tales about the making of "Dogma" and its resurrection.

Although Smith mentioned at both screenings that he is currently working on a proper "Dogma" sequel, it was at the...

Every Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Movie, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Over the years, Hollywood has delivered an abundance of memorable on-screen partnerships -- Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, among many others. Over 30 years after their first collaboration, it's probably safe to add Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the list.

Together, the dynamic duo have produced memorable entertainment aplenty, putting their remarkable chemistry to good use in everything from Kevin Smith's "Dogma" to Affleck's "Air." These guys have teamed up on nearly a dozen projects, even for a brief cameo or minor supporting role. Recently, their partnership has intensified with the aforementioned "Air" and Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel," it's a shame they haven't found more films to work on together over the years, because these boys are wicked smaht.

To celebrate this long-running partnership, we decided...

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Happened Thanks To This Kevin Smith Cameo
Image
Before the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, franchise films used to be made in a far more improvised fashion. Nowadays, we're used to studios and filmmakers having a several-year plan in place for an interlocking series of films and their respective franchises, and while this system can create some very rewarding emotional and narrative payoffs, it doesn't allow for the freedom of spontaneity as much. With this freedom, filmmakers were able to follow their muse to places they previously had never thought of going to, and it's not just characters or moments that were thought up on the fly; in some cases, an entire film came into existence based on a chance encounter.

That's exactly what happened to Kevin Smith during his primary years making films set in his View Askewniverse, named after the View Askew production company he created when he began making movies. Initially, these films were...

Kevin Smith Announces ‘Dogma’ Sequel, Expects Affleck and Damon to Return
Kevin Smith
Director Kevin Smith confirmed plans for a sequel to his 1999 religious comedy “Dogma” at the 2016 Vulture Festival. Original stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are expected to return in significant parts.

Smith directly addressed potential fan skepticism, noting that some may hesitate to revisit the cult favorite. “Some people will say, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. “You’ll ruin it,” Smith warned. “And I’m here to tell you: I will.”

The project follows a meaningful step in which the film’s long-standing rights concerns were resolved. Previously owned by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the rights have been purchased by an undisclosed business. This accomplishment paves the way for a sequel, a 25th anniversary theatrical re-release, and a new 4K home media edition.

Smith expressed confidence in Affleck and Damon’s roles, promising more than a cameo. “The only way we get a ‘Dogma’ sequel made is if they’re there,...

Kevin Smith Reveals ‘Dogma 2’ Is in the Works, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon May Return
Image
Kevin Smith is working on a sequel to Dogma 25 years after its original release, and he expects Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to make at least cameo appearances.

During his “Dogma Confessional” at Vulture Festival, Smith shared his excitement about the project, joking about potential backlash:

Some people will say, ‘Don’t mess with it—you’ll ruin it.’ And I probably will. But I’m thrilled because I’ve found a way to make it happen.”

Smith is confident that Affleck and Damon will return as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki. He humorously added that after helping them with Good Will Hunting in 1997, they owe him.

The panel marked Dogma’s 25th anniversary, reflecting on the original film’s story about two angels trying to find a loophole to get back into heaven. The 1999 movie starred Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, and Alanis Morissette,...

Kevin Smith Says ‘Dogma 2’ Is In Works With Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Potentially Returning
Image
After 25 years, Kevin Smith is reconnecting with the man upstairs for the unholiest of sequels.

During his Dogma Confessional on Sunday at Vulture Festival, the View Askewniverse creator revealed that he’s working on a sequel to the 1999 film, and he expects Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to return for cameos at least.

“Some people will be like, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. You’ll ruin it,'” said Smith. “And I’m here to tell you: I will. I’m f—ing tickled. I found a way in.”

He sounded confident that Affleck and Damon would reprise their roles as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki. After Smith helped save the pair’s 1997 film Good Will Hunting, without so much as a thank you in their Golden Globes and Oscars speeches, they owe him.

“I have been able to hold that over both their heads for 25 f—ing years,...

Image
Nerdly’s interviewer extraordinaire fills a bucket list dream by sitting down and chatting with one of his all-time favourite directors Kevin Smith about his new flick The 4:30 Movie – a love letter to the glory days of the cinema.

Kevin Smith is an American director, producer, writer, and actor. He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy buddy film Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob, characters who also appeared in Smith’s later films Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), and Clerks III (2022) which are set primarily in his home state of New Jersey. While not strictly sequential, the films have crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon known as the “View Askewniverse”, named after Smith’s production company View Askew Productions,...

Epilogue: Kate Siegel, David Dastmalchian star in zombie movie produced by Mike Flanagan
Image
Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian are both prominent figures in the horror world, so it’s somewhat surprising that their first collaboration came not on a horror project, but on Flanagan’s upcoming movie The Life of Chuck – which, despite being a Stephen King adaptation, is a drama. Today, Deadline has announced that Flanagan and Dastmalchian are set to work together again… and this time the project is a horror film. Flanagan will be producing Epilogue, which Dastmalchian will star in alongside Flanagan’s wife and frequent collaborator Kate Siegel. Michael Fimognari, who worked as cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s work and directed episodes of The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher (not to mention the films To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever), will be directing, working from a screenplay by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.

Kevin Smith Bringing ‘Dogma’ Back To Theaters, Home Release
Image
As the controversial Kevin Smith movie celebrates its 25th anniversary, Dogma is getting a re-release.

The View Askewniverse director revealed that his 1999 religious satire is returning to theaters and getting a new home release after another company purchased the distribution rights from Miramax.

“The movie’s been bought away from the guy that had it for years and whatnot,” he said on That Hashtag Show. “The company that bought it, we met with them a couple months ago. They were like, ‘Would you be interested in re-releasing it and touring it like you do with your movies?’ I said, ‘100 percent, are you kidding me? Touring a movie that I know people like, and it’s sentimental and nostalgic? We’ll clean up.'”

Smith continued, “Right now, 2024 is our 25th anniversary, this year. November is when we came out. So, I think 2025 it looks like is when the movement’s going to happen there.

Kevin Smith's Most Controversial Movie Is Free Of Weinstein Control – And The Director Has Big Plans
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Kevin Smith has been at an interesting point in his career post-heart attack. He's been revisiting the past with films like "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" and "Clerks III" while also pressing forward into originals once again with his most recent film, "The 4:30 Movie," which has been met with decent reviews thus far. Now though, it seems Smith gets to reclaim a bright (yet controversial) part of his past in the form of 1999's "Dogma." The rights to the film have been wrangled away from Harvey Weinstein, with Smith recently revealing that he and the new owner have big plans beginning next year.

In a recent interview with That Hashtag Show, Smith was promoting "The 4:30 Movie," which is available now on VOD. However, the filmmaker was asked about the status of "Dogma," as it has been largely unavailable for years,...

Kevin Smith on ‘The 4:30 Movie’ and Turning ‘Mallrats 2’ Into a Shannen Doherty Tribute
Image
The 4:30 Movie writer-director Kevin Smith is well aware that filmmakers are in a self-reflective phase, especially after the wake-up call that was the recent global pandemic. In the past few years alone, Kenneth Branagh (Belfast) and James Gray (Armageddon Time) have made period dramas based on their childhoods, but most notably, Steven Spielberg put out The Fabelmans in 2022, detailing how his parents’ divorce intersected with his budding filmmaking prowess. Smith’s 16th feature about his four first loves — his neighborhood movie theater, his adolescent crush and his two best friends — is already being compared to Spielberg’s most recent Oscar-nominated film.

“A lot of nice people online have been saying that [The 4:30 Movie] is kind of like The Fabelmans, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s sweet.’ And then The New York Times was like, ‘Yeah, it’s kind of like The Fabelmans if the kid grows up to make terrible movies,...

Kevin Smith Explains How Scream 3 Was Directly Responsible for Jay & Silent Bob Movie
Image
Acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Smith breaks down how a bit part in Scream 3 led him to make Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Smith went over every single movie that he has been a part of, including Scream 3 which, unbeknownst to him at the time, would become one of the biggest moments of his entire career. "So, we were asked by the folks at Miramax, 'Hey man, do you want to pop up in the next Scream movie as Jay and Silent Bob?' And they were like, 'Wes is into it,' meaning Craven," Smith recalled. "And you've got to remember most of the movies I made, all the movies I made, none of them were on a lot. So as we walked around the sound stages I was like, 'This would be f---ing dope man - make a whole movie like on a sound stage.

Kevin Smith Reveals What's Been Holding Up Mallrats 2, Shares Hopeful Update
Image
Kevin Smith has been dipping back into his View Askewniverse in recent years with the sequels Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III, and has hinted at wanting to revisit another one of his beloved films, Mallrats, for its own sequel. With his latest film, The 4:30 Movie, now playing in theaters, Smith addresses the likelihood of a Mallrats sequel and what it would take for it to finally get off the ground.

In an interview with Deadline promoting The 4:30 Movie, Smith was asked what the status of Mallrats 2 was, as the director has publicly advocated making a sequel for many years now. Smith would explain that the recent passing of Mallrats star, Shannen Doherty, understandably put a hold on meaningfully pursuing a sequel for the time being.

‘The 4:30 Movie’ Review: Kevin Smith Delivers His Best Film in Years by Writing About Teenagers Instead of Grown Men Who Act Like Them
Image
Thirty years ago, Kevin Smith burst into the world of independent filmmaking in a blaze of glorious serendipity that nobody could replicate if they tried. Self-financed for less than $30,000 and shot entirely in the convenience store where he worked, the original “Clerks” was an electrifying mix of slacker wit and utter absurdism at a time when putting pop culture-obsessed male mediocrity on the big screen felt like a genuinely novel concept. Even after double digit viewings, the film still feels like a pitch-perfect punk rock farce that can make even the most discerning cinephile laugh out loud more than it has any right to.

None of Smith’s subsequent work caught that kind of lightning in a bottle, but quite a few of his early films were close enough to the original high to be watchable. “Mallrats” is a passable ’90s comedy, “Chasing Amy” is a clever character study anchored...

Kevin Smith returns to his roots (again) for teen-centric The 4:30 Movie
Image
Once an indie underdog, Kevin Smith has, in middle age, devoted himself to making what critics and fans alike might characterize as glorified, self-referential home movies, cast with friends and family members and filled with callbacks, in-jokes, and the same familiar anxieties about friendship, romance, and growing up. This is not an original observation.

The 4:30 Movie Review: Kevin Smith Channels John Hughes And Starts Getting His Groove Back
Image
Kevin Smith will always hold a special place in my heart as one of the filmmakers who defined my formative years in cinema. "Clerks," "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," "Dogma," and even the silly "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" were packed full of hilarious yet immature laughs and pop culture references that tickled my funny bone and my geek gland. But ever since he tried to make his own Judd Apatow movie with "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," which made him feel like he ruined Seth Rogen's career at the time, he's struggled to re-capture the comedic voice that once defined him.

"Jay & Silent Bob Reboot" was a clumsy return to Kevin Smith's stoner slacker duo, and while "Clerks III" had a meaningful emotional core inspired by the filmmaker's real life brush with death and a meta narrative about the beginning of his film career, the movie ultimately...

Kevin Smith Announces Jay & Silent Bob 3, Title and Plot
Image
Kevin Smith is working on a third movie featuring Jay and Silent Bob. The indie filmmaker, who stars as the silent half of the titular duo opposite Jason Mewes, recently revealed the film's title and plot after months of dropping hints about the project.

The new film will be called Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars. The title spoofs Star Wars much like the first movie starring the duo, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, released in 2001. Per ComicBook, the story will follow Jay and Bob as they operate a marijuana dispensary from an old Rst Video storefront. When a competing dispensary opens in a different part of town, things start to get ugly.

Jay and Silent Bob 3 officially titled Store Wars
Image
Snoochie Boochies! While Kevin Smith announced last year that a third Jay and Silent Bob movie would be hitting screens, he provided some more details on the threequel this weekend, telling his audience at the San Diego Comic-Con that the movie will officially be titled Store Wars.

While little was revealed, Smith did say that the next movie will find Jay and Silent Bob opening a weed dispensary — presumably in Smith’s home state of New Jersey — and finding some stiff competition with a rival joint.

For the die-hard fans of the View Askewniverse, the confirmation of a third Jay and Silent Bob outing will be just what they need. Personally, I think the way 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot ended was a fitting farewell to the characters, showing a perfect mixture of maturity with Jay’s parenthood and some-things-never-change mentality with old school hijinks, leading directly back to...

Kevin Smith's Next Jay And Silent Bob Outing Could Be A Horror Movie
Image
Kevin Smith has stayed busy in recent years, from releasing the long-awaited "Clerks III" in 2022 to his upcoming '80s-set "The 4:30 Movie." This is to say nothing of the movie theater he co-owns in New Jersey, his several podcasts, live shows, and working on "Masters of the Universe" for Netflix. The man isn't slowing down 30 years into his career, to be certain. Now, he's gearing up for a third "Jay and Silent Bob" movie, one that will pick up in the aftermath of 2019's "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot." While much remains mysterious, it appears as though Smith might be returning to the horror genre for this one.

The director recently took to Instagram to share a sneak peek at the upcoming flick in the form of a prop called The NecroBobicon. This is a riff on The Necronomicon, which has been featured in the "Evil Dead" franchise since...

Kevin Smith | Worldwide rights snapped up for his new comedy, The 4:30 Movie
Kevin Smith
Kevin Smith’s new film, The 4:30 Movie, has been shot and has now been snapped up for distribution worldwide: more here.

Rest is not on the agenda for Kevin Smith, who in recent times has invested in the cinema he frequented when he was younger, rebranding it The Smodcastle Cinemas. He co-owns the site, and also shot a film there by the name of The 4:30 Movie.

Starring Austin Zajur, Nicholas Cirillo and Reed Northrup, The 4:30 Movie is described as a 1986-set comedy of age comedy, centred on three 16-year old chums who sneak into the movies every Saturday. What’s this, though? One of them, one day, invites a girl? Honestly. Tsk. Etc. She’s played by Siena Agudong, and also in the cast are Justin Long, Harley Quinn Smith, Keon Jeong and Jason Lee.

Kevin Smith has, of course, in recent times been successfully making low budget films on his terms,...

The Correct Order To Watch The Jay And Silent Bob Movies
Image
There was a time when Kevin Smith was regarded as being one of the definitive filmmakers of Generation X. His feature directing debut on the shoestring-budgeted 1994 indie hit "Clerks" suggested Smith not only had a firm understanding of the slacker mentality that afflicted so many people in his age bracket, but he was also shrewd enough to be critical of it. The film centers on disgruntled Quick Stop Groceries clerk Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and those in his immediate vicinity, including his equally-cynical, unmotivated best friend Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) and the off-beat drug dealers that loiter outside the store: loud-mouthed horny miscreant Jay (Jason Mewes) and his reserved yet secretly wise companion Silent Bob (Smith). As colorful as these characters were, they also felt like real people you could imagine Smith knew growing up on his home turf of New Jersey.

At first, Smith retained this acerbic wit and...

Kevin Smith Shares Details About Jay & Silent Bob 3 And The "Escalating War" In The Legal Weed Business
Image
Kevin Smith reveals that he is nearly finished with the first draft of Jay and Silent Bob 3, set in the Central Jersey legal weed business. He is almost finished with the first draft of the movie. Smith also reveals that, unlike previous films in the franchise, nobody dies in Jay and Silent Bob 3.

Details from Jay and Silent Bob 3 have been revealed by writer-director Kevin Smith. The upcoming movie will be the third in a trilogy featuring the iconic duo Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith), which began with 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, a movie that was later followed by 2019's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The characters, who are a pair of slacker pot dealers, originated in Kevin Smith's debut feature Clerks, which followed the workers at a New Jersey store named Quick Stop Groceries.

Kevin Smith Confirms He Is Writing Jay and Silent Bob 3, Hopes to Make It Unpredictable
Image
Kevin Smith is writing Jay and Silent Bob 3 after being inspired by the 30th anniversary of Clerks and a conversation with Jason Mewes. Jason Mewes didn't want to wait 10 years for a sequel, so Smith started writing the movie sooner than planned. Smith wants to bring something unexpected to the audience and is using the writing process as an exercise to sharpen his comedic skills.

Director Kevin Smith has offered a further update on the development of a third movie in the Jay and Silent Bob franchise. During the latest episode of Smith’s podcast Fatman Beyond, the filmmaker said that he will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Clerks, which, of course, introduced Jay and Silent Bob to audiences, throughout next year, revealing that the milestone birthday and a conversation with actor Jason Mewes first got him thinking about Jay and Silent Bob 3.

"I didn't think I would do it for a long time,...

Image
Snoogins! Kevin Smith says he’s bringing Jay and Silent Bob back for another movie! Do you know what that means? More stoner absurdity, crude humor, and convenience store loitering! Let’s go!

“Right now as we speak, I’m writing another Jay and Silent Bob movie,” Smith told PopCulture.com. The 53-year-old Swiss army knife of cinematic talent says he lost a bet to his friend and co-star Jason Mewes, and now the dynamic duo is poised to roll more blunts, drink beers, and groove to Morris Day and the Time! “For me and Jay, we always kind of have fun doing those and stuff, so I lost a bet with him. And so I’m writing another Jay and Bob movie,” said Smith.

PopCulture.com caught up with Smith at L.A. Comic Con, where the filmmaker moderated a panel called The Art of Hope: Cancer and Comics,...

Speaking recently with PopCulture.com, Smith said that he is writing a new movie in the franchise, which will no doubt see the pair of beloved stoners getting up to all manner of mischief once again in Jay and Silent Bob 3.

Kevin Smith is writing another Jay & Silent Bob film
Kevin Smith
Four years after the characters headlined Jay & Silent Bob: Reboot, Kevin Smith is plotting the next chapter for the stoner duo.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has revealed that he’s working on another film featuring the characters Jay & Silent Bob, the latter of which he also plays onscreen.

The two lovable stoners have featured in Smith’s films ever since the director made his filmmaking debut with Clerks in 1994. The duo’s most recent headlining film came four years ago in the form of Jay & Silent Bob: Reboot.

He did a podcast special with us about that very film, here.

Smith has made a habit in recent years of returning to his stable of ‘View Askewniverse’ characters.

Randall and Dante, the lead characters from Clerks made a trilogy-capping appearance in Clerks III in 2022 whilst Smith has also reportedly written a sequel to 1997’s Mallrats. That project, tentatively titled Twilight Of the Mallrats...

Is Kevin Smith's Tusk 2 Still Happening? Or Are We Done With Justin Long As A Human Walrus?
Image
"Tusk" was a theatrical experience that I will never forget. The trailer did not give much away, and it was difficult to tell whether Kevin Smith was aiming for parody or serious horror. Was this really about someone being held captive by a seaman with an affinity for walruses? The idea for "Tusk" began with a SModcast episode where Smith and his friend/producer Scott Mosier poked fun at a classified advertisement made by a homeowner who offered free lodging to someone if they dressed as a walrus for two hours a day. The strange, real-life story inspired a brainstorming session about how they might bring the story to life on film.

"I could have easily just been like, 'Oh, that was a stupid stoner idea that I won't follow through on,' but, I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of nobility in taking a stoner idea...

Good Will Hunting: How Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Ended up Broke After Selling the Script
Image
There’s no denying the star power of the creatives at hand, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck: two juggernauts of the industry with plenty of Hollywood blockbusters under their respective belts. And on top of their commercial successes, both creatives have seen endless praise from critics since bursting onto the scene of acclaim near the end of the 1990s. And Good Will Hunting (1997) is perhaps the best of their careers, regardless of decade.

This is an iconic on-screen duo, with this going down as the best film of their many collaborations. Damon and Affleck star as Will and Chuckie, respectively, two blue-collar workers living in Southie. The titular protagonist Will drives the plot as a mathematical genius who struggles to realize his full potential while in tandem dealing with anger issues.

The two actors are a couple of the biggest movie stars in the world, but they also happen to be life-long best friends who owe each other's prolific careers to what they've managed to accomplish together, especially in their early years. While Affleck and Damon achieved great success individually, their names will forever be synonymous with each other, considering their impeccable on-screen chemistry and the acclaimed projects they've also either written, directed, or produced together.

Most of the films Affleck and Damon collaborated on have been major successes, both critically and commercially, and have gone on to be some of the most iconic and recognizable films in recent history. Together, the two have won Academy Awards, and following Air, they might need to make space on their mantels for even more statuettes come award season.

Fubar Cast & Character Guide
Image
The Netflix original series Fubar features a star-studded cast led by 1980s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in a comedic role. The action comedy show is created by Nick Santora and follows a father and daughter who discover that they are both undercover CIA agents, which complicates their relationship and their dangerous mission. The series continues Netflix's long line of high-profile original content, and the cast alone helps to elevate it above the usual streaming fare. Besides the show's star Schwarzenegger, the rest of the cast of Fubar represents a diverse mix of veteran actors and newcomers.

Though Fubar presents an intriguing premise and promises to be an exciting and hilarious experience on its own, it is also notable because it marks the first time that Schwarzenegger has played a major role on TV. The multi-decade Hollywood veteran was one of the biggest box office draws of his day, and he...

William Shatner Is Trying to Change the Movie-Crowdfunding Game
Image
Evidently, audiences want to see the William Shatner documentary “You Can Call Me Bill” so badly that a good chunk of them were willing to pay for it to be made in the first place.

“You Can Call Me Bill” premieres Thursday at SXSW, with Shatner himself set for a keynote conversation at the festival alongside the doc’s debut. But the film came about through an equity crowdfunding experiment by the film’s producers, Legion M. The production company’s principals Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison tell IndieWire that “You Can Call Me Bill” managed to raise over $750,000 in a span of just four days. That number easily surpassed the film’s lean budget and has fueled its appearance and promotion at SXSW this week.

While crowdfunding itself is nothing new, the fundraising on “You Can Call Me Bill” is not a Kickstarter or a donation; it’s an investment,...

Lionsgate Is Winning By Not Playing The Streaming Game
Image
Lionsgate is by no means the biggest studio in Hollywood. The house of the "John Wick," "Saw" and "Hunger Games" franchises is what is known in the industry is a mini-major, meaning it's not as big as Disney or Warner Bros., but not as small as Neon or STX. It's somewhere in the middle. Be that as it may, as the industry continues to emerge from the pandemic, Lionsgate is putting together a winning strategy, as evidenced by the company's most recent quarterly earnings report. In short, it's because they're not playing the same, big streaming game that everyone else is playing.

For the company's third quarter of its current fiscal year, revenue hit 1 billion, absolutely smashing Wall Street expectations. Part of that has to do with Starz, which Lionsgate owns (we'll get to that), but what's most interesting is what wasn't on the sheet driving that revenue. For one,...

Mallrats 2 Gets Exciting Update From Kevin Smith
Image
After years of starts and stops, Mallrats 2 has gotten a very exciting update from Kevin Smith. The 1995 comedy acted as the second installment in Smith's interconnected View Askewniverse and centered on Brodie and T.S., two comic book fans and stalwarts recovering from being broken up by their girlfriends by heading to the mall and indulging in the chaos going around there. Despite failing at the box office, Mallrats has gone on to be considered a cult classic, as is the case with many of Smith's films, and has seen the filmmaker not only bring back multiple characters in subsequent View Askewniverse entries, but also explore the possibility of a direct follow-up, which may be closer than ever to happening.

In the latest episode of his Fat Man Beyond podcast, Kevin Smith offered some insight for what he has in development for 2023. Though expressing his excitement at writing a number of projects,...

Moose Jaws: Kevin Smith gives a positive update on his killer moose horror film
Image
The killer moose movie Moose Jaws has been brewing in the mind of Kevin Smith for several years now. The project, which has always been described as simply “Jaws with a moose“, was meant to wrap up Smith’s True North Trilogy, which began with Tusk and continued with Yoga Hosers… but for some reason, it has proven to be more difficult to get Moose Jaws into production than its predecessors. The Moose Jaws problem may have been solved, as during a recent convention appearance Smith gave a positive update on the long-awaited horror film.

Speaking at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio, Smith revealed that Moose Jaws is expected to be one of the next five movies he makes and will be a continuation of the working relationship he has established with Lionsgate. As he explained, “(Moose Jaws) is a movie I’ve been threatening to make for a long time,...
