Allison Williams has proven herself to be one of the most exciting performers working today with several iconic roles in movies and TV across her relatively brief career. From her breakout role as Marnie Michaels on HBOs Girls to being dubbed a new scream queen due to her success in the horror genre, Williams has consistently confounded audiences' expectations and proved her hidden, often underappreciated talents. With equal skills as a comedic and dramatic performer, when given the right material, Williams has truly excelled with some highly effective performances.
In her role as Rose Armitage in Get Out, Williams gave an extraordinary performance in one of the best horror films of all time and has continued to gain acclaim in this genre in subsequent films like The Perfection and M3GAN. Williams television credits have also been impressive, with memorable performances in Netflixs A Series of Unfortunate Events and an effective...

Actor and producer Allison Williams has been gracing our screens for nearly two decades. The 35-year-old star made her acting debut in the 2004 NBC drama series "American Dreams," but her acting career didn't fully take off until she landed the role of Marnie Michaels in Lena Dunham's HBO series "Girls," which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017. After "Girls," Williams began acting in films, and in 2017, she portrayed the manipulative Rose Armitage in Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning film "Get Out." Following the success of "Get Out," Williams has starred in Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "M3GAN," among other notable works. Most recently, she can be seen alongside Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer in "Fellow Travelers," which hit Showtime on Oct. 27.

Sf Studios, the 104-year old Nordic giant, has crashed into the awards season with Tom Hanks’ “A Man Called Otto,” which it produced with Playtone and fully financed.
Buzzed about as a potentially strong Oscar candidate since its first official screening in L.A. last week, the Sony Pictures film is a remake of “A Man Called Ove,” the Swedish hit also produced by Sf Studios. The 2015 film, adapted from Fredrik Backman’s global bestseller, earned two Oscar nominations.
Sf Studios’ CEO and president Michael Porseryd told Variety that the 50-million film with Hanks underscores the banner’s commitment to theatrical movies and its drive to own intellectual property rights for content it finances.
“The biggest difficulty we’re facing right now is to get audiences back into theaters, but when a movie works in cinemas, the payback is much bigger than when dealing with a streamer,” said Porseryd, who...

While the other streaming services set up recurring franchises, Hulu has opted to get a bit more experimental with its original offerings in August 2021.
Hulu’s list of new releases this month is highlighted by three original series concepts with promise. Reservation Dogs premieres on August 9. Co-created by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), this story will follow four indigenous teenagers in Oklahoma as they stave off boredom and adulthood. Next up is Nine Perfect Strangers on August 18. This miniseries, based on a book of the same name, is produced by David E. Kelley and features staggering cast of Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, and more.
Only Murders in the Building is likely the biggest thing to look forward to in August though. Premiering on August 31, this comedy stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as three true crime-obsessed friends who stumble into a true crime of their own.

The promise of an actual theatrical blockbuster, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” seems to have thrown the VOD charts into stasis. All three of the current #1 titles on four VOD charts also held top spots last week, with no new or reduced price offerings giving much competition.
“Monster Hunter” remains #1 at GooglePlay, and is the only title to rank on all four lists. Paul W.S. Anderson’s film, initially PVOD but now at standard pricing, has been #1 on all of the charts at different times. Worldwide theatrical gross is $30 million (on a reported $60 million budget), but its strong home performance could make up the loss.
“Promising Young Woman” stayed at #1 at AppleTV, where viewer preferences suggest a more upscale crowd. Focus’ reduction to standard pricing was well timed against its Oscar nominations.
“The Little Things” claimed the #1 spot on multiple charts. It tops revenue-tracking FandangoNow and Spectrum Cable, which lists by transactions.

Scandinavia’s film industry has proven resilient in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, bolstered by well-established production and sales banners, as well as high-profile talent who have seized opportunities from streamers and broadcasters.
Spanning Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland, the Nordic film biz has been able to ride through the health crisis better than those in many
other territories.
The industry’s robustness lies in the strength of a handful of local players, including vertically integrated powerhouses such as Sf Studios, which is delivering some big-budget local and international movies including “Omerta 6/12,” “The Emigrants” and “The Pact”; and Nent Group’s streaming service Viaplay, which is releasing original movies.
Scandinavia also boasts the sales banners TrustNordisk, a sister company to Zentropa, the leading Nordic production outfit behind Lars Von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”); REinvent Intl. "There's nothing to crash into up here." STX has revealed a second official trailer for the intense airplane survival movie Horizon Line, from Swedish filmmaker Mikael Marcimain (of Call Girl and Gentlemen). From the creators of the films 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Shallows (just the executive producers), Horizon Line is a thrilling survival story about two (former) lovers, Sara played by Allison Williams, and Jackson, played by Alexander Dreymon, who discover new altitudes of fear aboard a single-engine Cessna plane. When their pilot has a heart attack, the two must regain control and figure out what to do - without any comms, or any location, or any idea what they're doing. Will they make it?! The cast also includes Keith David. The first trailer for this was already thrilling as hell, this one is just as frightening. The big storm sequence looks unforgivably scary. If you’ve ever flown on a plane, you know the biggest fear there is about flying—the death of the pilot. Without the pilot, what the hell are you going to do? Well, if you’re lucky enough to be on a commercial airline, there are other options and a ton of technology that probably can help. But for the young couple in “Horizon Line,” those safeguards aren’t available, and they’re seemingly screwed.

STX Films has revealed the trailer for Horizon Lines. This is the latest from filmmaker Mikael Marcimain and, so boasts the studio, comes from the same creators behind 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Shallows. Described as "a thrilling survival story about two former lovers," it stars Allison Williams and Alexander Dreymon who find themselves stuck on a flight from hell.
The trailer opens with our lead actors, a happy couple, partying on the beach and being madly in love with one another. They then board a tiny single-engine Cessna plane, soaring over the ocean. Allison Williams' Sara has had some experience flying and the pilot lets her take control. Unfortunately, the pilot ends up having a heart attack, leaving Sara in control. This is something she is not remotely prepared for. They are lost with no autopilot as things go from bad to worse. It is very minimalistic, in terms of cast anyway,...

Allison Williams has really discovered a new career that no one would have guessed would happen after her breakout role on the HBO comedy, “Girls.” The actress has figured out that she’s pretty good in horror-thrillers. Thanks to a scene-stealing, sociopathic role in “Get Out,” followed by whatever was going on in “The Perfection,” Williams has carved out a niche in the thriller genre that she keeps going in the upcoming “Horizon Line.”

"That's our shot!" "No going back." STX has released an official trailer for a freaky airplane survival movie titled Horizon Line, from Swedish filmmaker Mikael Marcimain (of Call Girl and Gentlemen). When their pilot has a heart attack, the two must take control and figure out what to do - without any comms, or any location, or any idea what they're doing. Will they make it?! The cast also includes Keith David. This looks super intense, and insanely frightening scary, which is the point! Going to be nerve-wracking to watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Mikael Marcimain's Horizon Line, direct...

The film landscape in Scandinavia is far from homogenous. In Sweden, where no drastic coronavirus restrictions were enforced, shoots were not suspended so long as no more than 50 people were assembled, while elsewhere in the Nordics, a lockdown was imposed and film productions were stopped.
On April 14, film production resumed in Denmark — after a pause that lasted more than a month — under a new set of rules relating to the coronavirus crisis that also apply to Sweden, according to the Nordic Film Guide, which was put together by the Swedish banner Hobby Film and based on information released by government bodies. Besides leaner crew numbers, the guidelines also require at least 4 square-meters (43 square-feet) between each person on interior shoots and no buffets or coffee stations on set. Crowd scenes are out of the question right now. Shooting in public places in Sweden is permitted, while Denmark is allowing such lensing on a case-by-case basis.

Do you trust Allison Williams? If you've seen her performance in Get Out, that question might cause you some hesitation. And that's Ok. In fact, now that her new horror film, The Perfection, is streaming, she's hoping that it does.
After playing Marnie Michaels for years on the HBO dramedy Girls, the 31-year-old actress has been working tirelessly to branch out into roles that prove she's capable of far more than portraying an uptight Wasp with a handful of frenemies. She's done everything from live theater (the titular role in Peter Pan Live!) to a clever and terrifying subversion of Marnie in Jordan Peele's Get Out, which sees her donning a mask of woke, white privilege before transforming into a straight-up monster as Rose.

As Sf Studios bulks up its pipeline with ambitious in-house productions, the company’s international sales division is now aiming to widen its scope through third-party pickups, with an eye on non-Scandinavian projects.
Spearheaded by Anita Simovic, Sf Studios’ international sales team will be bringing to Cannes a couple pickups: Santiago Requejo’s heartfelt comedy drama “Grandpas,” the company’s first Spanish-language acquisition, and Kasper Torsting’s Wwi-set Danish love drama “A War Within.”

Sf Studios — the Swedish major that’s turning 100 this year — is banking on the production of high-concept, talent driven English-language and local films, as well as TV series, to become a key European player and thrive in today’s ultra-competitive landscape increasingly dominated by deep-pocketed Ott services.
Once the home of Ingmar Bergman, Sf Studios has in recent years shifted its core model from being almost fully dedicated to distribution to becoming a prolific producer of premium films and TV shows aimed at the international market.
“Our goal is to be the leading studio in the Nordics and a leading studio in Europe, which means that across both TV and film we develop, finance, produce, distribute film in the Nordics and manage international sales,” says Sf Studios’ CEO Michael Porseryd, who’s been spearheading the strategic shift.
