Snd is set to host market premieres for Patrice Leconte’s period detective film “Maigret,” as well as high concept comedies “Employee of the Month” and “The Bodins” at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, a showcase of French content hosted this week in Paris.

“Maigret,” based on Georges Simenon’s literary masterpiece, will star Gérard Depardieu (“Cyrano de Bergerac”) as detective Maigret, who investigates the death of a young girl in 1953. During his inquiry, Maigret crosses paths with Betty, a young offender who reminds him of the dead girl. The movie will be released by Snd on April 6.

“We’ve pre-sold ‘Maigret’ across 90% of Europe, it’s really a highlight on our slate due to the strength of the franchise, director and cast – Gerard Depardieu is outstanding in this role,” said Ramy Nahas, head of international sales at Snd.

"Sometimes I feel like you're the only one who gets me." Cinedigm has released the trailer for an amusing indie comedy titled Dear Dictator, which has a goofy, perhaps ridiculous premise. Michael Caine plays a British-Caribbean dictator who is forced to leave his island nation. He decides to move in and hide out with his "pen pal" (is this the 90s?), a young rebellious teenage girl, as played by Odeya Rush (from The Giver, Goosebumps, Almost Friends, Lady Bird). Somehow they make this work in a weird way, and of course he helps teach her how to "start a revolution and overthrow the 'mean girls' in her high school." It's not as bad as it sounds, but it also doesn't look that good either. But, Michael Caine! He's always great, right? The cast includes Jason Biggs, Katie Holmes, Seth Green, and Jordyn Cavros. Warner Bros.' Justice League, the studio's fourth Dceu entry, was expected to easily top the box office this weekend, although it came in far under even the most modest of expectations. The Dceu superhero ensemble had no trouble taking the top spot and beating other newcomers like Wonder and The Star, but it failed to hit its projections, coming in far below most expectations with $96 million. Wonder did manage to overperform, coming in above expectations with a solid $27 million in its opening weekend in second place.

Back in September, box office analysts put Justice League's opening weekend at $150 million, coming in just shy of the $166 million of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Last month, those numbers dipped even more, with analysts predicting an opening weekend between $110 million and $120 million, and while some thought it may exceed those more modest expectations, it still managed to fall quite short of most projections,...

After two weeks in a row of box office dominance, Thor: Ragnarok will certainly not come out on top this weekend, with that honor almost certainly going to Warner Bros. Justice League. Unlike most Marvel movies, this Dceu movie does have some competition in wide release, with the Lionsgate drama Wonder, starring Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay, and Sony's animated biblical tale The Star, although none of those movies will come anywhere close to Justice League. We're predicting that Justice League comes in just a bit over its latest box office projections, taking in $126.7 million.

In its meandering way, Almost Friends touches on serious coming-of-age themes. Parental dysfunction, teen pregnancy and emotional trauma are some of the plot points in writer-director Jake Goldberger's third feature (after Don McKay and Life of a King), a comic drama that's sometimes appealingly gentle but more often frustratingly amorphous. There are instances of wit and sensitivity scattered through the screenplay, but they have no cumulative impact amid the lackluster direction and general dearth of urgency.

Freddie Highmore stars in this as a twenty-something kid still living at home with his mom and stepfather. He falls for a local girl named Amber, but of course she already has a boyfriend and plans to move away. "Will Charlie reach his tipping point or will he finally find the path forward?" One month into its freshman season, The Good Doctor’s prognosis is good.

Based on the Korean series of the same name, the one-hour drama centers on Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young genius surgeon with autism and savant syndrome -- whose brother tragically died when he was young -- who joins the prestigious surgical department at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. On The Good Doctor, Freddie Highmore plays a surgeon who, despite his savant syndrome, has mostly got it together. The character he plays in the upcoming romantic comedy, Almost Friends? Not so much, considering he's a millennial who moves back in with his parents during something of a quarter-life crisis.

Alex A. Ginzburg and Tony Lee of Let It Play announced today that Academy Award nominated filmmaker Lexi Alexander has signed on to direct the true story of wrestler Chris Benoit. Based on the book, "Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit & the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry" by Matthew Randazzo V, Crossface will tell the story of WWE superstar Chris Benoit as he struggles to maintain his family life, while the pressures of wrestling cause him to spiral out of control. Benoit was a well respected, world champion wrestler, who, over the course of a weekend in June 2007, murdered his wife and son before taking his own life.
