The two-time Oscar nominee has teamed with indie rocker Jason Narducy to reconstruct Rem albums in full. But can Shannon compete with Michael Stipe, who he calls rock’s most ‘efficient and direct’ frontman?
Michael Shannon was a teenager when he first heard Rem. “I was out at my cousin’s trailer; he lived in the country. He put Document on his little cassette recorder, and I sat in his room with him and listened to it. Any art I find compelling is usually because it seems singular, like the people who are making it are the only people that could be making it.”
Shannon is used to making singular art himself, as a distinctive presence in notable films for many years: Nocturnal Animals, Knives Out, The Bikeriders, The Shape of Water, Bullet Train and more. But he can also sing – in George and Tammy he played the country legend...

It’s Time!
After kicking off February with Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (listen), Trace and I celebrated Valentine’s Day with Mitchell Lichtenstein’s Teeth (listen). Now we’re ready to dive into our first Amityville film on the pod with a look at Tony Randel‘s Amityville: It’s About Time (1992).
In the film, after returning home from New York with an antique clock, family patriarch Jacob (Stephen Macht) is mauled in a horrific animal attack. His ex-girlfriend Andrea (Shawn Weatherly) is forced to stay in his house and look after him and his two teenage children: “juvenile delinquent” Rusty (Damon Martin) and virginal Lisa (Megan Ward). But as the clock takes literal root in the house, time becomes slippery and several characters begin acting oddly.
Why is Lisa becoming a teenage vamp? Did Rusty really vandalize the neighbor’s property? Is Jacob’s leg infected with gangrene or eeeeeevil?...

Amy Adams has earned a lot of praise for her performances throughout her career. Hailed as one of the most versatile actors of recent times, the actress has made her mark in most genres out there.

However, for many fans seeing her as Lois Lane on the big screen was a dream come true. The actress, too, seemed to enjoy her role well enough opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Interestingly, an old clip of Adams, Cavill, and Ben Affleck in an interview has recently gone viral. If anything, that clip has fans convinced that the time has come for Amy Adams to return to superhero movies. This time as Batman.

‘Girl Interrupted’ to ‘Walk the Line,’ Arianne Phillips Highlights Her Five Favorite Costume Moments

Costume designer Arianne Phillips is 0-3 for Oscar wins to nominations. But her nod this year for James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown” may be the film that turns her luck around.
Phillips’ talents have made her Tom Ford’s go-to designer (“A Single Man” and “Nocturnal Animals”), as well as Mangold’s, having collaborated with him on “Girl, Interrupted,” “Identity,” “Walk the Line” and “3:10 to Yuma.” She’s styled Courtney Love, Madonna and Lenny Kravitz to name a few, and her resume includes print, fashion and editorial work.
She was well on her way as a costume designer when she started working closely with Madonna, but was told, “You need to either be a stylist or a costume designer; you need to do rock and roll or fashion,” she says. “I chose to keep going,” Phillips says, by not picking one over the other. Filmmaker Robert Eggers delivered a daring new take on the iconic Count Orlok in Nosferatu and, understandably, the undead vampire's appearance was kept under wraps leading up to the movie's release.
We've since seen a few blurry shots of Bill Skarsgård's grotesque blood-sucker but now have officially released footage of the Count in all his horrifying glory. That's thanks to a featurette exploring the It and Eternals star's transformation into one of the most iconic movie monsters in history.
The mustache remains a point of contention for many horror fans, though as Eggers has pointed out in multiple interviews, it made sense to head down that route with the nightmare-inducing Transylvania nobleman. In fact, Orlok looking so real is what makes him so scary in this remake.

The Nocturnal Animals ending is one of the movie's most talked-about aspects. The 2016 thriller ends on an emotionally gut-wrenching yet ambiguous note. Nocturnal Animals stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a writer named Edward, who sends his latest novel manuscript to his ex-wife Susan (Amy Adams). As Susan immerses herself in the nail-biting tale of violence and death, she revisits the ups and downs of her own failed marriage with Edward. The novel's premise serves as a parallel storyline in Nocturnal Animals, capturing its protagonist, Tony's pain as he tries to get over his wife and daughter's assault and murder.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Edward and Tony, the dual role allowing him to capture the emotional nuances of both characters. While Edward struggles with his professional insecurities and romantic missteps, Tony seeks nothing but blood-stained revenge for the drifters who destroyed his family. Interestingly, the neo-noir psychological thriller is based on Austin Wright's 1993 novel,...

Long before Aaron Taylor-Johnson became the iconic Spider-Man villain in Kraven the Hunter, the Marvel actor played a much, much more sinister role in one of the more underappreciated thrillers of the 2010s. Directed by Tom Ford, Nocturnal Animals was a controversial, award-winning drama that saw a star-studded cast led by Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, and, of course, Taylor-Johnson. The role garnered Taylor-Johnson a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, but the actor has now admitted to having a "real issue" taking on the part of serial killer Ray Marcus.
During an interview with The Guardian, Taylor-Johnson reflected on starring in Ford's 2016 mystery thriller as the villain of the film's in-world book, whose story serves as a catalyst for novelist Edward Sheffield's (Gyllenhaal) grief. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has quickly become a notable name in Hollywood, having appeared in a handful of memorable films over the last decade. He will still be best known to many audiences for his starring role in Kick-Ass (2010) and the 2013 sequel, but he also played the lead in 2014's Godzilla, which remains a highlight of Legendary's MonsterVerse.
More recently, Taylor-Johnson has appeared in movies like Tenet (2020), The King's Man (2021), Bullet Train (2022), The Fall Guy (2024), and the critically-acclaimed Nosferatu (2024). These days, Taylor-Johnson is mentioned most commonly as the actor who is seemingly a front-runner to be the next James Bond. One of his most important roles, however, couldn't be further away from 007, with Taylor-Johnson having played an unhinged serial killer back in 2016.
James Bond 26 could still be quite a ways off, as a new report recently revealed tension between producer Barbara Broccoli and Amazon, the new owner of MGM.

Amy Adams is one of the more celebrated actors of her generation. She was first nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her 2005 film Junebug. Since then, she has gone on to receive nominations for several other projects, including American Hustle and The Fighter. She vies for a potential Oscar nomination once again for her work in this year's Nightbitch, a surrealist horror comedy with a canine twist. It is a competitive year for Best Actress, but Adams has scored a Golden Globe nod already.
During her career, Adams has gotten to work with director Denis Villeneuve only once. Villeneuve is also an Oscar nominee, having received Academy Award recognition for his work directing, writing, and producing. Like Adams, Villeneuve will be eligible for awards this year for his work on a 2024 film. For him, this will be the sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, which did well...

The cast of Kraven the Hunter is made up of proven Marvel stars and fresh talents who will help to continue the development of the Sony Spider-Man Universe. Following Venom and Morbius, Kraven the Hunter will feature the third Spider-Man villain from Marvel Comics to receive a solo film in Sony's growing franchise. While Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, is curiously absent from the Sony Spider-Man Universe, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock, Jared Leto's Michael Morbius, and Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the Vulture, have claimed their space in the franchise, with Kraven the Hunter joining them
Since debuting in Marvel Comics' The Amazing Spider-Man #15 back in 1964, Kraven the Hunter has become an important part of Spider-Man's lore, becoming obsessed with hunting down the web-slinger to proclaim himself as the world's greatest hunter. Kraven has been at the center of some of Marvel Comics' most iconic storylines.

‘Kraven The Hunter’ Wounded With $11M Box Office Opening, Lowest Ever For Sony/Marvel: What Happened

There’s a saying among filmmakers about comedy movies: you can’t keep them on the shelf for long or else they’ll go stale.
The same is equally true about superhero films, and it’s a fate that Sony’s Kraven the Hunter suffered this weekend, becoming the lowest opening in the studio’s Marvel canon with $11 million three-day total.
The bomb is the third strike for Sony/Marvel following 2022’s Morbius ($73.8M) and this year’s Madame Web ($43.8M). These are films made strictly by the Sony brass without the nuance of Lord & Miller, who steer their Spider-Verse animated movies, and Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, who shepherd their Tom Holland-starring MCU movies. Combined, the Holland and Spider-Verse titles have grossed $6.85 billion worldwide.

When you build a film around an action star, he’ll do a lot of things that only happen in the movies: lay waste to five goons with his bare hands in two minutes, drive vehicles at dizzying speeds down the ancient staircases of a European metropolis, leap from balconies and hang from the rudders of buzz-diving helicopters. When you think about it, he’s a lot like a superhero, except that his actions are all, in theory, reality-based.
Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), better known as “Kraven the Hunter,” does a lot of that stuff too, only he’s no “action hero.” He’s a Marvel character with a superhuman edge. Kraven made his first appearance in the comics in 1964 as an adversary of Spider-Man, and Spider-Man is the character whose abilities he most recalls. He can shimmy up the sides of buildings and plunge from them without getting scratched.

Amy Adams' new movie, Nightbitch, is very close to continuing a negative Rotten Tomatoes streak for the Oscar-nominated actor. Amy Adams is one of the most popular actors in the world, having starred in movies like American Hustle, Arrival, and Nocturnal Animals. However, Adams has been on a streak of poorly reviewed movies recently. In her newest movie, Nightbitch, Adams plays a stay-at-home mother who starts experiencing strange transformations, leading her to believe she is turning into a dog.
In addition to Adams, the cast of Nightbitch includes Scoot McNairy, Zoe Chao, Marry Holland, and Kerry O'Malley. Clearly, Nightbitch has one of the most unique premises out of any Amy Adams movie. However, while reviews for Nightbitch were initially quite strong, its Rotten Tomatoes score has been dropping. If it continues to fall, Nightbitch will continue Amy Adams' streak of starring in movies that struggle to resonate with audiences.

Ever since his mainstream cinematic breakthrough in the title role of 2010's Kick-Ass, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has shined in action films. Though he's certainly thrived in other genres, the English actor's striking physicality was a scene-stealing asset of action pictures as varied as Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt, this summer's comic action romance The Fall Guy, and of course 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Taylor-Johnson played Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver.

Ask the Golden Globe-winning actor, and husband of Sam, about his drama (Nocturnal Animals), action (Kick-Ass), spoof action (The Fall Guy), horror (Chat Room) or perfect snogging (Angus …) roles
At 34, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has built up one of the best CVs in the business – in part because he started so young: he was 10 when he appeared in All My Sons at the National Theatre, and just 12 when he played the lead in family film Tom & Thomas.
Then came two key breakthroughs: in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and as the young John Lennon in biopic Nowhere Boy, directed by his future wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson.

The next James Bond movie has been in development for some time, as studio executives search for the perfect creative team. However, a new report suggests that an Oscar-winning director is being considered to direct the next installment in the iconic 007 franchise.
Per The Sun, 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen has met with producers about helming the highly anticipated film. "Steve is one of the UK's best filmmakers and has an incredible vision," a source told the publication. "The word is that the Bond producers wanted to see if Steve would ever consider having a hand in one of the films, and they got a positive response. It would be incredible if it came off." What if you were trapped in a bunker with Tilda Swinton, and she kept breaking out into song?
That’s (an extremely reductive version of) the premise for “The End,” director Joshua Oppenheimer’s oddball post-apocalyptic musical, for which Neon released a trailer on Monday. The trailer teases a romantic musical set in a billionaire family’s bunker after the end of the world they helped cause, with elegant sets and an unusual tone.
The film is Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker Oppenheimer’s (“The Act of Killing”) first narrative feature, which he wrote with Rasmus Heisterberg and produced with Signe Byrge Sorensen and Swinton. Dan Gilroy's "Nightcrawler" is designed to make you feel ill at ease. When small-time thief Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is first introduced, the discomfort evoked stems from the desperation late-stage capitalism embeds into our souls and how it pushes us towards unsavory avenues. However, once Bloom pawns a stolen bicycle for a camcorder, and we are forced to dissect violent, extreme crime scenes with him, the true, eerie heart of "Nightcrawler" is revealed. Bloom isn't just pushed into taking such ethically void measures to ensure his survival: he actively hungers for these excesses, as seen in his wide-eyed, unblinking gaze, which Gyllenhaal invests with an unsettling intensity that grants "Nightcrawler" its discomfiting tint. It is an experience that comes alive solely because of him, and Gyllenhaal carries this burden by channeling a haunting, career-defining performance that is both subtle and felt deeply in our bones.

There are two types of confusing movies. On one hand are those films that do confuse you while keeping you entertained so that even if you don’t “get it,” the viewing experience feels fruitful. Some examples that come to mind are Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive, Memento, Predestination, Tenet, Coherence, and Nocturnal Animals. If you tell me to explain what was going on in these movies, I will probably fail miserably, but if you ask me if I am up for rewatching them again and again, I’ll say, “Hell yes.” That said, on the other hand, you have films that confuse you while forgetting to engage you in any meaningful way. I am talking about I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Under the Skin, Primer, Vanilla Sky, Lost Highway, and what I consider my arch-nemesis, Enemy. Known for her exceptional work in celebrated films such as The Fighter (2010), The Master (2012), Her (2013), American Hustle (2013), and Arrival (2016), Adams is undoubtedly one of the greatest working actresses today. Exclusive: Nick Hamm’s action-packed adaptation William Tell, starring Claes Bang and Golshifteh Farahani, has sold to the UK & Ireland and Germany-speaking territories ahead of its world premiere in Toronto next week.
Munich-based sales company Beta Cinema unveiled the all-rights deals to Altitude (UK & Ireland) and SquareOne Entertainment for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, following the film’s well-attended press and industry screening in Toronto on Thursday.
Both distributors are targeting a release date in Q1 2025.
Beta Cinema has already announced deals with Sf Studios, Beta Fiction (Spain), Eagle Pictures (Italy), Dutch Filmworks (Benelux), Pris Audiovisuais (Portugal), Monolith Films (Poland), Cinemart (Czech Republic), Blitz (Former Yugoslavia), Ads (Hungary and Romania), Beta Film (Bulgaria), Tfg (Greece), Ukraine (Top Film) and The Plot Pictures (Middle East & Turkey) earlier this year.
Director Hamm’s adaptation of Friedrich Schiller’s classic play is fresh out of post-production.
Bang stars as titular hero opposite Farahani as his wife. They are joined by Connor Swindells, Jonah Hauer-King, Ellie Bamber, Rafe Spall and Emily Beecham, with Academy-Award winner Ben Kingsley and Academy-Award nominee Jonathan Pryce.
Altitude co-ceo Will Clarke said of the acquisition: “It’s fantastic to be working with such an incredible team of film-makers and our friends at Beta and we can’t wait to bring the epic and thrilling William Tell to audiences in the UK & Ireland.”
For his part, Thomas Sierk, Director of Acquisitions & Sales at SquareOne Entertainment, said: “The production truly succeeds to tell the story of the legendary freedom-fighter William Tell as an exciting, action-packed epic with an outstanding international cast.
Al Munteanu, CEO of SquareOne Entertainment added, “Together with my team, I am thrilled to bring this fantastic production to theaters early next year.”
The narrative unfolds in the 14th Century, when Europe’s nations fiercely vie for supremacy within the Holy Roman Empire. The ambitious Austrians, desiring more land, encroach upon Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation.
Amidst this backdrop, William Tell, a formerly peaceful hunter, finds himself forced to take action as his family and homeland come under dire threat from the oppressive Austrian King and his ruthless warlords. Leading his fellow countrymen, Tell embarks on a courageous rebellion, seeking to defend their liberty and stand against the tyrannical forces that seek to subjugate them.
Hamm’s previous credits include Driven, which was selected as the closing film at the Venice Film Festival, Netflix’s White Lines and The Journey which premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.
Piers Tempest and Marie-Christine Jaeger-Firmenich (Gigi & Nate) produce. Executive Producers include Jon Hamm, David Nichols and Francesco Marras.
William Tell is a Free Turn Films / Tempo production in association with Beta Cinema, WME Independent, Prime Focus Studios and Groenlandia and Cineroma Srl. The production is supported by Idm Südtirol and autonomous province of Bozen/Bolzano – South Tyrol and Quebec Film Production Services Tax Credit.
“We are delighted to partner with such highly esteemed distributors for the UK and Germany. The epic tale of William Tell presents a rich tapestry of themes and topics, providing a strong foundation for bold and ambitious theatrical campaigns in these two key European markets,” said Beta Cinema EVP Thorsten Ritter.
The film will world premiere in Toronto as a Gala Presentation next week and will then make its European presentation at the Zurich Film Festival in October. Beta Cinema handles international rights, alongside WME Independent who represent domestic rights.

A movie adaptation of Blood on Snow has major stars attached. The project is based on the 2015 crime novel of the same name by Norwegian author Jo Nesb, which was the first installment of the Olav Johansen series. Set in Oslo in the 1970s, it follows a turf war between two major gangs. A previous film adaptation of the novel was announced in 2017 with Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire at the helm making his directorial debut, though that project never came to fruition.
Per Deadline, as Blood on Snow heads into pre-sales at the Toronto International Film Festival, it has attached two major stars. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing a lead role as the series' main character Olav Johansen, while Tom Hardy will play a supporting role as crime boss The Fisherman, who is in a rivalry with another gang leader named Hoffman, a character who is as yet uncast.

The first trailer for the best-named horror film of 2024 is finally here, and "Nightbitch" is poised to be one hell of a ride. It's also the latest bold career move from much-loved actor Amy Adams, who stars alongside "Halt and Catch Fire" alum Scoot McNairy in the movie based on Rachel Yoder's 2021 horror-comedy novel. "Nightbitch" has a provocative title, a striking red-on-red book cover, and a cheeky movie tagline ("Motherhood is a b***h"), but what is it actually about? With this first trailer, the cat –- or dog, rather -– is out of the bag: yep, this is a story about a stay-at-home mom turning into a canine.
First announced in 2022, the big-screen adaptation of Yoder's satirical debut novel is directed by "Diary of a Teenage Girl" and "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" filmmaker Marielle Heller, and is set to debut at the Toronto Film Festival in September,...

After the Sept. 5 Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs going up against the Baltimore Ravens, Prime Video’s third season of Thursday Night Football begins with AFC East champs Buffalo Bills taking on the Miami Dolphins in Miami. The WNBA and Nwsl also continue their seasons on Prime Video, with matches all month long from New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Angel City Fc, and more top teams.
