A fresh start. Again. We see a return to the origins for the character, this time during Harry's learning phase, we finally see a real closer relationship with the latter, and a adolescent relationship with Debra, Dexter is young, emotionless and meticulous, he observes, studies and takes action! This The first episode is everything that made the series great in the very first season, with alternating moments of suspense and other very introspective ones.
The return of the original music is the icing on the cake, which marks once again a revival of an incredible series, which after an excellent season like New Blood needed to return. At the beginning, to look to the future, Dexter Resurrection.

Strong points:
Nice, convincing Dexter. I was worried about this. The actor seemed too different from the original.
Harry by Slater: good, convincing, too. Good actor, good acting.
Debra is ok. The way she moves, she talks, her look. A bit on the fat side, but I guess it happens. Cursing too much. She shows too much. This is about Dexter, not her. That's on the writers.
The setting in Miami, crime scenes, the team.
Weak points: Editing, seems a bit amateur.
Dialogs, a bit forced, theatrical. Except the ones between Harry and Dexter.
The shots, the way the camera moves. It doesn't give you that PoV feeling we're used to.
Obviously, easier said than done. All and all, I'll try it. It seems good enough.

Start off by saying I love Dexter at its best, and I'm a huge fan of the original series. At times I've felt this franchise has let fans down, so I had pretty low expectations coming into this first episode. The last episode of Dexter: New Blood was particularly bad, and the last Dexter I have watched.
And after the intro and first scene? I really thought this show might be a complete disaster. I couldn't tell if a 'Naked Gun' level of contrived stylization was happening, or if the production was just objectively bad. Turns out, it was just a bad scene, and while I know production doesn't generally follow the chronology of an episode, this first scene just looked like a rehearsal, and likely was one of the first scenes filmed.
As the episode goes on everything improves, almost scene by scene - all the way to the ending. There were still some cringy acting mannerisms from several actors, including the lead, throughout the episode. Because it's so consistent, I'd say this is a direction failure trying to shoehorn one version of a character into another. Hopefully as this show progresses, the actors will be allowed to perform their own version of the returning characters.
I really believe after watching this first episode that this show could really become quite good. I think enough pieces are in the right place.
I felt very similar after the first episode of Dexter: New Blood, and believe that series had an excellent run of episodes all the way through the 2nd to last. About that last episode of New Blood... it appears producers of the new Dexter shows didn't like that episode either, at least it's outcome, because a re-imagining of how those events went down has begun.

The colorful Miami, the og music themes, the characters we loved portrayed by great actors, the continuous rotation from comedy to horror, the realistic dialogues etc.
This is just the beginning of course, we don't know exactly what story they want to tell with this prequel, but this first episode gave us every reason to be anticipated to see what they want to do.
Patrick Gibson does an excellent job as Dexter. Same goes for Christian Slater as Harry. I struggled to see Molly Brown as Debra at the beginning, but that's normal since Jennifer has unique characteristics. It's great cast in general.
This episode hits the nostalgia man, everything New Blood couldn't do in 10 episodes.

Wow.. this is very unexpected, the acting is extremely good, i had goosebumps in some moments, the atmosphere is so good, the cast is extremely good.. i don't know, honestly.. i'm speechless. It's just incredibly well acted, the actors are extremely on point, Patrick Gibson's giving me Michael C. Hall vibes.. Molly Brown's like Jennifer Carpenter reincarnated.. Christian Slater's like made for playing James Remar role.. everyone is so good. This is pure nostalgia, it's like i'm watching the original show from 2006, i don't know.. it's weird how good it is. Clyde Phillips is the real deal man, Michael Lehmann and Monica Raymund too, i'm so F happy!
