I had a completely different experience watching this than the previous reviewer. I found it utterly delightful, and I found myself really invested in the lead characters - both excellently portrayed.
I thought it was deliciously funny - I'm Irish, & thought the Irish-isms were so on point (ok, there were some cheesy, obvious or ridiculously caricature moments - but they were the exception.)
Sure, the 'clash of two people from different worlds' has been done a million times.... but it's a classic for hundreds of years.... & for good reason,... when done well - it's friggin' funny!
I'm so delighted it'll be back for a second season. TV shows like this aim to bring joy - that relatable kind of joy (rather than something totally remote or fantastical). Therefore I reckon that scrutinising & critiquing the technicalities of it is NOT the way to watch this. I'd recommend - sit back, open up... and delight in a simply beautiful show :)

My husband and I LOVED this show and watched the six episodes in two days. It ended in a cliffhanger, so we will be hoping for a second series. I agree with the author of the "Full of Heart" review - we laughed out loud over and over again. We were sad that it only lasted three hours.
The acting was convincing and the main parts - as well as the supporting roles - are well acted.
In response to reviewers seeking a message or a deeper meaning: Everything doesn't need to be cerebral, does it? Surely we aren't all such sophisticates that we can't enjoy a good laugh. If deeper meaning is what you're looking for, let me paraphrase a line from the show: Don't go shopping at a hardware store, if it's oranges you're after.
In other words, if you're looking for something deep, skip it. If you enjoy some good Irish situations and humor, this might be the show for you!

Spoliler---- I'm Irish.
Now the Irish Times slaughtered this. Somehow this was put about as the new "Fleabag" Well lets put that to rest right now.
We Irish with our new found wealth are very sensitive about how others view us, a certain snobbishness about how others portray us. If we're not ultra cool, Euro trash with ponytails we're insulted. Well some are.
A few good Irish actors show themselves now and again. Hope you've been paid and paid well for this, you wont be getting invites to any Dalkey soirees or even to St Bono Salon.
Of course the Irish lads are either drunks or poetic sympathy Gods.
What's going on is beyond my comprehension.
I've really tried to say something positive but its hard when nothing happens.
Dont hold your breath for Series 2 .

A completely watchable character-driven dramedy. Sophie Thompson (Sheryl) is definitely the standout in this series; her comedic delivery/timing certainly worked for me. I don't usually laugh aloud while watching tv alone, but I did with this show!
A couple other reviews point to some shortcomings related to character development/unidimensionality and weak social commentary. I can understand the perspective that the show leans too heavily on familiar tropes/stereotypes and is blatantly feminist, but those issues didn't spoil the entire experience for me. Besides, based on my observations, the media landscape is still dominated by male perspectives (especially in the realm of comedy), so... perhaps I'm just happy to be experiencing a bit of a counter-balance? Also, I'm not convinced that this show aims to be that complex/deep/cerebral.
Despite its flaws, I found this show fresh, enjoyable, and full of heart!

I tried out IFC's SisterS because it seemed something pleasant to watch over dinner rather than the usual Fair of death, butchery, zombies, battles, and other bloodletting.
The first episode got me interested. Episodes two and three were a bit slower on the character setup, but then it got rolling with the anticipation of a payoff.
To me, what it offered was clever writing, very good acting and pretty good production.
So all in all it did speak to me emotionally and I ended up looking forward to see the next episode and the next and the next. Then it capped off with a surprise ending!
So I'm looking forward to a second season to see what the girls are going to get into next.
