I tracked down this 2023 drama titled "Double Soul" solely because the movie had my favorite actor Julian Sands on the cast list. And of course, since it was a movie that I hadn't already seen, then I had to check it out. Sure, I had never heard about this movie from director Valerio Esposito, so I didn't know what I was in for, and in turn I had no expectations. So in a sense, director Valerio Esposito had every opportunity to entertain and impress me.
It was a bit impressive really that writers Roberto Cipullo, Francesco Maria Dominedò, Valerio Esposito, Valentina Ghetti and Giulia Pagnacco collectively could manage to pull off so little in the effort of writing an entertaining and enjoyable script and storyline. I guess there is something about the old saying 'too many chefs spoil the broth'.
The movie does have a nice cast ensemble, with the likes of Julian Sands, F. Murray Abraham, Danny Glover and Paz Vega on the cast list. Despite having a dull storyline, then the acting performances in the movie were fair.
"Double Soul" was a swing and a miss of a movie in terms of entertaining me. I didn't really fully grasp what the story was about, and it was a somewhat dull viewing experience. This is not a movie that will make it back to my screen a second time, not even with Julian Sands on the cast list.
This was not my type of entertainment.
My rating of director Valerio Esposito's 2023 movie "Double Soul" lands on a three out of ten stars.
