For Apc Studios, “The Eclipse,” an atmospheric, procedural mystery thriller set in a rural community on France’s Aubrac plateau, could well offer a winning formula for international buyers at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre and beyond.

The series turns on a mystery that originates during an evening eclipse when 17-year-old Luca accidentally shoots his girlfriend, Nour. When he leaves to seek help, the young girl disappears. Manue and Johanna, two local women cops, are dispatched on an investigation that will ultimately impact their own families.

Summing up the show, Apc states in its tagline: “An effective whodunit taking us to a never-seen-before, magnificent French countryside. The duo of female cops, mothers and friends, turn a small community inside out.”

Apc Kids, part of energetic French production-distribution group Apc Studios, has sold to Canal+ France the first season of “Walter’s Christmas: Keeper of the Forest,” a Danish live action fantasy family series.

The deal kicks off sales on the series which Apc Kids is introducing to buyers this week at this Unifrance Rendez-Vous at Le Havre in Normandy, Northern France.

News of the deal comes as About Premium Content is readying a lunch presentation on Thursday at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous of live action scripted drama “The Eclipse,” an atmospheric procedural-mystery thriller set among a farming community on the windswept Aubrac plateau in France. With French production continuing to grow in all major genres, the 30th edition of the Unifrance Rendez-Vous market kicks off for the first time in Le Havre, welcoming international buyers from around the globe.

Last year, some 200 international buyers from 40 countries, along with 58 French sales companies, attended the Rendez-Vous, and organizers are expecting similar numbers for the current edition.

Speaking with Variety about this year’s event, Unifrance’s president, Gilles Pélisson, and executive director, Daniela Elstner, offer their insights on the latest trends, the significant role of the Rendez-Vous for the industry, and the growing international reach of French programming, from high-end drama to animation and documentary fare.

While international streamers have been pulling back from original production, French productions continue to grow in all major areas, Pélisson points out.

Natasa Urban’s ‘The Eclipse’, about ex-Yugoslavia, takes top prize.

Natasa Urban’s The Eclipse, a personal look at the dark past of ex-Yugoslavia, has won the main Dox:Award prize at the 2022 Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival (Cph:Dox).

The film, which had its world premiere at Cph:dox on March 28, sees Urban turn her analogue film camera on her family in ex-Yugoslavia, looking at how a dark past remains embedded in the present.
