Exclusive: Erik Osterholm, longtime Bourdain producer/director and Down To Earth co-creator Michael Simkin launch Ultra Boom Media. The two producers are joining forces to create Ultra Boom Media alongside Oscar/Emmy nominated filmmaker Omar Mullick and veteran media and creative exec Carrie Kaylor.

Osterholm previously served as director/producer on both iconic unscripted series, Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown and Vice’s Emmy-winning HBO series. As a former SVP of development at Zero Point Zero, Erik developed and produced a number of series, including The Business of Drugs, Emmy Nominated Connected with Latif Nasser for Netflix, and the CNN original series Nomad with Carlton McCoy.

As the Co-creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Emmy award-winning documentary series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, Simkin also steered Zac Efron’s production company, Ninja’s Runnin Wild, producing scripted films like Extremely, Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, That Awkward Moment and Dirty Grandpa with Robert DeNiro.

Last season, in preparation for being sold, The CW cancelled half of its scripted shows and announced that two others would be ending during the 2022-23 season. Nexstar, the network's new owner, has indicated that The CW will be airing shows with smaller production budgets and/or acquired or syndicated series. The CW cut two of its most recent series from broadcast after only airing two episodes of each: “Down to Earth with Zac Efron” and James and Oliver Phelps’ “Fantastic Friends,” TheWrap has confirmed.

Originally, the two shows were supposed to debut on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. throughout the summer. They have since been replaced by encore episodes of “Penn and Teller: Fool Us” and back-to-back episodes of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Remaining episodes of both series are available to stream on the CW app and on cwtv.com.

Neither of the series emerged as big ratings wins for The CW. During its brief time on the air, “Down to Earth” averaged 0.269 million views and earned a 0.04 in the 18 to 49 demo, putting it behind summer series such as “The Chosen,” “Nancy Drew,” “Riverdale” and “Son of a Critch.” “Fantastic Friends” performed even worse, only seeing an average...

The CW on Tuesday released its Summer 2023 lineup, and it features a big serving of acquisitions with a side dish of reruns.

Among the offerings: International comedies Son of a Critch, Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs and Moonshine, and Season 2 of Canadian Jewel Staite-Victor Garber drama Family Law. The network will also tee up this fall’s arrival of FBoy Island Season 3 by airing the reality show’s previously-seen-by-some second season.

On Wednesday, Netflix dropped the trailer for the new season of “Down to Earth with Zac Efron”, this time sending him down under to Australia.

“In this new season, Emmy® winning actor Zac Efron travels around Australia with wellness expert Darin Olien in search of healthy, sustainable ways to live,” the official synopsis reads. “The hosts bring viewers to beautiful locales where they seek out sustainable practices in a way that is both educational and enlightening, embracing local food, culture and customs throughout their journey.”

In the trailer, Efron goes diving among the coral reefs, hikes up mountains, eats interesting food and more, all while meeting with innovators looking for ways to live better and more sustainably.

The trailer for season two of Netflix’s Down to Earth with Zac Efron reveals the actor will be taking a deep dive into all things Australia. Zac Efron will be visiting with experts who are attempting to find cleaner, better, and more sustainable ways of living over the course of the eight-episode season.

The trailer’s release was accompanied by a new poster and the announcement that season two will premiere on November 11, 2022.

Netflix released the following description of the new season:

In this new season, Emmy-winning actor Zac Efron travels around Australia with wellness expert Darin Olien in search of healthy, sustainable ways to live. The hosts bring viewers to beautiful locales where they seek out sustainable practices in a way that is both educational and enlightening, embracing local food, culture and customs throughout their journey.

Zac Efron, Brian Volk-Weiss, Michael Simkin, Jason Barrett, Cisco Henson, and Darin Olien serve as executive producers.

Can storytelling help save the planet? Netflix thinks so: The company worked with the team behind the United Nations’ COP26 international climate conference to curate a collection of sustainability stories on the streaming service.

The Netflix “Together for Our Planet” collection of 30 TV shows, films and documentaries includes real-life nature documentaries like “Our Planet” and Oscar-winner “My Octopus Teacher”; climate-science docs like “Breaking Boundaries”; dramas like Norwegian TV series “Ragnorak”; sustainability travelogue series “Down to Earth With Zac Efron”; and films including Bong Joon-ho’s pro-vegetarian fantasy “Okja” (pictured above) and Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”

To be sure, Netflix also sees an opportunity to incrementally boost its subscriber rolls as well as burnish its brand with the eco-friendly content initiative.

The Nacelle Company has partnered with North Maple Productions in a deal intended to broaden Nacelle’s content development strategy with a focus on expanding the company’s reach to historically underrepresented audiences.

Nacelle, founded by Brian Volk-Weiss, is the studio known for developing programs such as “The Movies That Made Us,” “The Toys That Made Us” and “Down to Earth With Zac Efron” for Netflix and “Behind The Attraction” for Disney Plus. North Maple Productions, co-founded by Naisha Arnold and Rushie Perera, focuses on platforming storytellers with diverse backgrounds in regards to race, gender and sexuality. Both women of color, Arnold and Perera work with both emerging and established talent to create both scripted and non-scripted material.

Zac Efron, Karrueche Tran, Andy Serkis, “This Old House” and “Jeopardy: The Greatest of All Time” were among the winners on Sunday night as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced its remaining crop of Daytime Emmys winners, in the “fiction and lifestyle” fields. The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards for children’s and animation categories were announced on Saturday, while other major awards were revealed via the Daytime Emmys telecast on CBS last month.

Parents with preschool-aged kids and younger probably won’t be shocked by the most-watched show on Netflix in 2020. Everyone else, get ready to scratch your heads.

The team at streaming tracker Reelgood kept tabs on all the shows that made it on Netflix’s top 10 rankers this year (since the streamer started publicizing it in late February) and “Cocomelon,” the preschool franchise that began as a YouTube channel featuring nursery rhymes and other kids’ songs, has been a smash.

Netflix began airing episodes of “Cocomelon” earlier this year. It has spent 104 days on Netflix’s top 10 ranker, more than any other program except “The Office.”

When Reelgood looks at how consistently high each program ranked on Netflix, assigning the most points to No. 1, “Cocomelon” winds up as the most popular show since February (when the top 10 most-watched lists began) on the streamer.

Zac Efron has signed up to star in the Disney remake of the 1987 comedy ‘Three Men and a Baby’.

The remake will head straight to Disney streaming service, Disney+. ‘The Way Back’ and ‘The Rookie’ producer Gordon Gray will produce. Will Reichel has written the script for the remake.

The original film was based on the 1985 French film ‘Trois hommes et un couffin’ and followed the mishaps and adventures of three bachelors played by Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenburg and Ted Danson as they attempt to adapt their lives to pseudo-fatherhood with the arrival of the love child of one of them.

Zac Efron will star in the “Three Men and a Baby” remake for Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The original 1987 film starred Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson as New York bachelors who find themselves caring for a love child of one of them. It was based on the 1985 French film “Trois hommes et un couffin” (“Three Men and a Cradle”). Leonard Nimoy directed the film, which became the first live-action Disney film to cross the $100 million mark at the domestic box office.

A sequel, “Three Men and a Little Lady,” was released in 1990.

Gordon Gray, who produced last year’s Ben Affleck drama “The Way Back,” is on board to produce the remake. There is no director attached yet. Will Reichel wrote the script for the remake.

This weekend’s a pretty big one when it comes to new content that’s heading to streaming services and you won’t want to miss what’s coming.
