Marvel Producer Didn’t Want Shira Haas in MCU Because Her Name is Not Good For Selling a Movie Years Before Her Role as Sabra
Ever since MCU broke the news about casting Unorthodox Emmy nominee Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph aka Sabra in Captain America: Brave New World, there has been a wave of controversy surrounding the character. Considering how she’s an Israeli superhero and a Mossad agent in the comics, her character’s inclusion raised concerns among Palestinians, leading Marvel to rework her character for the big screen.

Now, amid such tumultuous times, while Captain America: Brave New World producer Nate Moore confirmed that Sabra is an Israeli in the final movie but not a Mossad agent, Marvel producer Avi Arad had reflected on this possible controversy over a decade back. Almost being foresighted about how people might react to Sabra’s appearance in MCU, Arad had justified his hesitation to cast the character, back in 2012.
