How Kip Williams Remade ‘Dorian Gray’ for the TikTok Generation
Image
Few people likely associate Oscar Wilde’s famed 1890 novella The Picture of Dorian Gray with the tech-laden, scroll-heavy social media of the 21st century. But for Tony-nominated director Kip Williams, this landmark work of queer literature and the fast-paced digital landscape of TikTok are a perfect fit — and the sheer will it takes to bring them together onstage is the entire point of his new Broadway show.

Wilde’s story follows the young, wealthy, and beautiful Dorian Gray. After having a portrait done by the talented painter Basil, Dorian longs...

First Look at Disney Animation's 'Zootopia 2' Highly Anticipated Sequel
Image
Hopps & Wilde are back! Disney has finally revealed a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming sequel Zootopia 2, the long-awaited follow-up to the fan favorite Zootopia from 2016. Even though it was initially deemed a failure back in 2016, Zootopia ended up finding a huge audience worldwide (which is why this trailer is dialogue free to connect with everyone no matter what language they speak) and it took nearly a decade for Disney to work out internal issues and finally get the movie into development. Now it's ready for release in theaters in November. In this sequel, detectives Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde must go undercover to crack a case when they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile. The main voice cast features Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy, Jason Bateman as Nick, and Shakira reprising their roles from the first film, joined by Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, and...

‘Zootopia 2’ Trailer: The Disney Sequel Introduces Reptiles with Ke Huy Quan’s Mysterious Snake
Image
Disney dropped the trailer for “Zootopia 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the billion-dollar Best Animated Feature Oscar winner from 2016. This not only marks the return of rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), but also introduces reptiles for the first time to their mammal metropolis.

The buddy comedy finds Hopps, the police department’s first rabbit cop, working full-time with Wilde, the sly fox and former grifter. They investigate a crime in Marsh Market, where the first reptile is spotted. Who is prime suspect Gary De’Snake (Oscar winner Quan Kế Huy), the venomous pit viper? And what is he doing in Marsh Market?

Jared Bush, Disney Animation’s chief creative officer, wrote and directed with Byron Howard, who directed “Zootopia with Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph”). Bush previously directed the Oscar-winning “Encanto” and co-wrote and co-directed “Zootopia.”

“We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous,...

Cannes Market Hot List: Will New Films From Seth Rogen, Pamela Anderson, Rachel Zegler and Jeremy Allen White Spark Bidding Wars?
Image
Will some serious star power reinvigorate the Cannes Film Market?

That’s the big question facing sales agents as studios and streamers hit the Croisette on the prowl for compelling new movies. At Sundance, Berlin and Toronto, the movie business seemed to be in the throes of a massive contraction. Having spent freely while launching their own in-house challengers to Netflix, studios like Warner Bros., Disney and Paramount, along with their indie brethren, were in full-on cost-cutting mode. Complicating matters was the fact that after being burned by overspending for projects and packages at festivals in the past, tech giants like Apple and Amazon have instead concentrated on producing in-house content. That left many filmmakers still searching for distribution long after the crowds dispersed.

But there’s something about the sunshine — or maybe the free-flowing rosé — in the South of France that always leads to a bidding war or two.

Emma Stone, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde’s Real Names That You Don’t Know About
Image
When it comes to show business, it is not uncommon for actors and actresses to take up names that are a little more snappy, and work well with the personalities that they end up projecting. However, sometimes, these names become so famous that the real, legal names of these celebrities come as a surprise to those not in the know.

Be it big names in films like Natalie Portman, a talent that has defined a generation like Emma Stone, or even musicians such as Katy Perry, some of the names that these celebrities end up taking up are wildly different from what their legal names are, while others stick closer to what their friends and family know them by. Here is a list of celebrities who have chosen stage names that are very different from their actual names.

15 Actors Who Hated Working With Their Directors
Image
Like any workplace, tensions can get pretty high on Hollywood sets. Actors and crew members are often working long hours day after day to create something that is the singular vision of one person: the director. When that vision isn't clear enough for everyone to see, or that director is maybe not a healthy collaborator, things can come to a head very quickly. That's why there's a stereotype of directors being very controlling, argumentative, and narcissistic, given that, in the case of most studio films, there's a lot of responsibility on their shoulders to make a good film.

We've all heard stories about famous actors who refuse to work with each other, despite the on-screen chemistry their characters displayed. However, fewer people know the dirty details about actors who hated working with certain directors, whether it be a matter of personalities clashing, actors not being invested in the project, or...

Filming on “The Invite” has already started in Los Angeles, so expect the comedy may arrive in theaters sooner than audiences anticipate. Frivolity Revs Up on Broadway: ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ and ‘Operation Mincemeat’
Image
“I am tired of myself tonight,” laments the fatally vain title character in The Picture of Dorian Gray. “I should like to be somebody else.” Well, there are abundant somebody elses to choose from on Broadway this month, not only in the stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s 1891 novel, in which Sarah Snook plays 26 characters, but also in Operation Mincemeat, the farcical World War II musical in which five actors take on dozens of personas.

For an actor to change lickety-split between characters introduces an inherent playfulness, even a shared complicity, between audience and performer. We can’t pretend not to know that we’re watching something make-believe when we see a costume change take place before our eyes. And there’s an anarchic wink in common between these two productions—both celebrated London transfers—even as each show aims for something deeper than comic pandemonium.

The silliness sticks more...

Sarah Snook Goes Fantastically Wilde In ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’ – Broadway Review
Image
The Picture of Dorian Gray

Opening night: March 27, 2025

Venue: Broadway’s Music Box Theatre

Written by: Oscar Wilde

Adapted and Directed by: Kip Williams

Performer: Sarah Snook

Camera Operators: clew, Luka Kain, Natalie Rich, Benjamin Sheen, Dara Woo

Running time: 2 hrs (no intermission)

Deadline’s takeaway: If only Oscar Wilde were alive to offer up a pithy description of Broadway’s playful The Picture of Dorian Gray starring the remarkable Succession actor Sarah Snook, because this is a production that most of us will need more than a few words to convey all of its exuberant theatrical dazzle.

Equal parts acting masterclass, tech wizardry, illusion and clockwork stage management, all costumed and set designed with the wit and color schemes of the most vivid Cindy Sherman photographs, Dorian Gray marks audacious Broadway debuts by both Snook and director-adaptor Kip Williams.

So what if the use of video cameras on stage is already bordering on cliché,...

Seth Rogen on Nabbing the Wildest Cameos in ‘The Studio,’ from Olivia Wilde to Film Reporter Matt Belloni
Image
The upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series “The Studio” could be the streamer’s next big hit — or its most inside baseball, er, inside industry show ever.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg co-created the 10-episode series, where Rogen stars as ambitious — and prone-to-pratfalling — producer Matt Remick. He’s the newly appointed head of the fictional Continental Studios, tasked with churning out studio slop like a Kool-Aid movie meant to capitalize on Mattel’s growing reign in Hollywood. Or asking “Smile” and “Smile 2” director Parker Finn to direct a movie called “Wink,” which is basically the same concept as those horror movies but with a, well, wink instead of a lethal smile. “It’s not a formula so much as a structure that we know 100 percent works so we’re going to do it over and over again,” Matt explains at one point of the company’s ethos.

The same happened with Ted Lasso as well, which is a sports comedy-drama featuring actor Jason Sudeikis.

‘The Head’ Season 3 Episode 5 Recap: Is Rachel The Killer?
Image
The penultimate episode of the final season of The Head appears to be all sorts of chaotic and random. Even with only an episode remaining before the series’ conclusion, the narrative continues to dangle red herrings and insert unnecessary plot threads, all the while drastically increasing the body count, leaving only two survivors for the final showdown. Previously, as Olivia’s past actions at Polaris VI came to light, Jamal and Pierre had her captured and isolated, suspecting her to be the killer. Even though Olivia helped to crack the code of Takeshi’s malware and saved the algae research from getting sabotaged, Jamal left her locked in the basement area of the research facility. Meanwhile, Takeshi’s spy, Keiko, had learned about the series of murders taking place in the facility and managed to stage a coup by convincing fellow test volunteers to band together against the research team.

Jude Law's Performance as an Arrogant Aristocrat in This '90s Historical Drama Is One of His Most Overlooked Movies
Image
Jude Law may currently be facing off against the children of At Attin in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, but longtime fans of the actor's career know Law's characters have thrown plenty of tantrums themselves, and one of Law's earliest films might just have featured his most immature role of all. Wilde, the 1997 historical drama directed by Brian Gilbert, is a poignant adaptation of the life of poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (Stephen Fry) that features one of Law's most underrated movie performances as Wilde's infamous lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. A film critically acclaimed for both its unapologetic queerness and the strength of its lead performances, Gilbert's movie provides a unique perspective on Law's early career and remains an important cultural artifact, making it the perfect fit for viewers looking to see the more childish side of the galaxy's latest rogue.

“But you cannot lie to your v*gina”: Olivia Wilde Said She Had S*x Like Kenyan Marathon Runners With Jason Sudeikis After Taking a Dig at Her Ex-husband
Image
Hollywood has seen quite a lot of wild and controversial confessions, ranging from stars’ private lives to their big screen ones. While some of these leave fans wheezing from laughter (like the effect Jennifer Lawrence’s confessions have), others are more than enough to have them cringing to the core — just like the one Olivia Wilde made while taking a dig at her ex-husband.

Olivia Wilde Recalls Intense Backlash to 'House' Character's Inter-Racial Romance
Image
Apparently, some fans weren’t thrilled with Thirteen’s relationship with Dr. Eric Foreman on the hit television series, House. According to star Olivia Wilde, who portrayed MD Remy Hadley, a.k.a. Thirteen, alongside co-star Omar Epps (Dr. Foreman), the actress received “insane death threats” because of the interracial love affair. Wilde revealed extra security was even hired in an interview at the Red Sea International Film Festival. Wilde said (per Variety):

"[There were] insane death threats constantly coming into the studios. Seeing what’s on television now, if you watch ‘Euphoria,’ the fact that my character was shocking and groundbreaking, then, it’s like, no, it’s nothing."

Wilde, who portrayed Thirteen from Season 4 through Season 8, was nominated for four Teen Choice Awards (2008-2011) and a Screen Actors Guild Awards nod (Ensemble nomination) during her time on House. Today, Wilde is not only a renowned performer, but an influential filmmaker.

House Star Olivia Wilde Reveals The Show Received Death Threats Due To Groundbreaking Thirteen Storyline
Image
Olivia Wilde has opened up about her time on House, reflecting on the impact of her character and the shocking backlash it received. Wilde, now a celebrated actor and director, got her breakout role as Alex Kelly on The O.C. but rose to stardom when she joined the hit medical drama during season 4, playing Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley, a doctor with Huntington's disease. Although the show was a massive success, becoming the most-watched television show in the world in 2008, it seems that some storylines were not well-received by audiences.

In a recent interview with Variety, Wilde discussed how Thirteen's storyline stirred controversy because the character's bisexuality and interracial relationship storylines broke new ground for television at the time, which resulted in "insane death threats constantly coming into the studios" and extra security measures on set. The star also emphasized how far television has progressed in normalizing such stories.

Olivia Wilde Received ‘Insane Death Threats’ During ‘House’

Olivia Wilde endured a wild reception to her “House” role.

Olivia Wilde Says Only Boys Are Encouraged to Direct Movies
Image
Olivia Wilde is calling out the gender bias in encouraging kids to become directors.

The “Don’t Worry Darling” and “Booksmart” filmmaker said during the Red Sea International Film Festival, via Variety, that children are told to enter Hollywood based on their gender and not their interests.

“I think for many young women, when we love movies as little girls, we’re told, ‘Oh, you should be an actress,’” Wilde said. “I think when little boys say they love movies, people say ‘You should be a director.’”

Wilde pointed to how studios do not greenlight female-directed projects, despite the features financially making the same if not more than male-helmed films.

“Movies directed by women don’t make less money,” Wilde said. “It’s not the audience’s problem. It’s the financiers, it’s the studios. They need to take what they perceive as a risk.”

She added, “There’s no shortage of talent,...

If A House Reunion Movie Happens, I Know Exactly Who Should Direct It
Image
House had a great ending when the series wrapped in 2012, but if a House movie is made, there is one standout choice to direct. House first came out in 2004, with the incredible Hugh Laurie starring as the titular character, Gregory House. The show delivered a fresh and innovative take on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, with the protagonist working as a diagnostic specialist doctor rather than a detective, which is just one of the most refreshing ways of telling the stories I have ever seen.

Beyond the fresh take on the Sherlock Holmes stories, House also managed to completely redefine the medical drama genre, with the show establishing an in-universe reason for the medical team led by House to be dealing with the most unique and rare diseases known to man on a weekly basis. As a renowned diagnostician, the most unusual and remarkable cases made their way to House's desk.

Olivia Wilde Talks Choosing Art Over Audience Approval: “I Don’t Make Movies So People Love Them”
Image
Hollywood star Olivia Wilde warns social media and the embrace of fame pose an existential threat to filmmaking as a storytelling art.

“Directors have to decide at a certain point do you want to be a celebrity or an artist. Because of social media, it’s becoming even more combined to something that is quite dangerous for the art form.,” Wilde said while taking part in an informal conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival on Saturday.

“When you conflate filmmaking or acting with large scale acceptance, you immediately cut off every opportunity to do any risky work. So it was important to me to never become overly focused on being accepted or loved,” she added.

To get away from the Hollywood bubble, the actor-turned-director told the Red Sea Film event she remains inspired by film from far-flung countries not dominated by social media and clichés. “I’m so interested...

Olivia Wilde: “Girls are told to be an actress; boys are told to be a director”
Image
Olivia Wilde said a gender imbalance still pervades Hollywood and the wider film industry, speaking during her in-conversation session at Red Sea International Film Festival.

“For many young women, when we love movies, as little girls, we’re told you should be an actress,” said Wilde. “When little boys say they love movies, people say ‘you should be a director’.”

In the hour-long session, Wilde regularly returned to the topic of gender inequality in the industry. “In acting, it’s the only job where the more experience you get, the less valuable you become – certainly for actresses,” said Wilde, who...

Olivia Wilde Says Movie-Loving Girls Are Told to Be Actresses While Boys Are Told to Be Directors
Image
As one of a handful of actresses in Hollywood who have successfully crossed over into directing, Olivia Wilde claims one of the reasons for this small number was the messaging given to children when they express an interest in cinema.

“I think for many young women, when we love movies as little girls, we’re told, ‘Oh, you should be an actress,” she said, speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. “I think when little boys say they love movies, people say ‘You should be a director.'”

On the subject of female directors and the ongoing domination of men behind the camera, Wilde lay the solution with the those holding the purse strings. “Movies directed by women don’t make less money. It’s not the audience’s problem. It’s the financiers, it’s the studios. They need to take what they perceive as a risk,...

Olivia Wilde Says Gregg Araki Is a ‘Freak in the Best Possible Way’
Image
Olivia Wilde appreciates how wild auteur Gregg Araki can get.

Wilde, who leads Araki’s upcoming psychosexual thriller “I Want Your Sex,” told Variety that working with the filmmaker reinvigorated her love of cinema.

“He’s such a force,” Wilde said. “He’s so singular and authentic. I’ve never met someone less Hollywood. He is a filmmaker for all the right reasons. He is a freak in the best possible way. I’m so inspired by him.”

She continued, “I feel in many ways that movie reminded me of why I do this.”

“I Want Your Sex” co-stars Cooper Hoffman as Wilde’s onscreen paramour. Araki co-wrote the script with Karley Sciortino.

The official synopsis reads: “How far is too far? When fresh-faced Elliot (Hoffman) lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde), his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse.

Olivia Wilde Gave Charli Xcx a ‘Hello C—y’ Mug Filled With Cigarettes on ‘I Want Your Sex’ Set
Image
Olivia Wilde didn’t have any scenes with Charli Xcx in Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex.” However, the “Brat” singer did receive quite the cheeky gift from Wilde.

“I left it on her chair because I knew she was coming in right after me,” Wilde told me Tuesday at the Baby2Baby Holiday Event at Bmo Stadium in Los Angeles. “I got her my favorite mug, a Bella Freud mug that says, ‘Hello, Cunty,’ and then I filled it with her favorite cigarettes and put a little rose in the middle of it. She loved it. She carried it around with her.”

“I Want Your Sex” stars Wilde as a renowned art world firebrand who coerces a young man named Elliot (Cooper Hoffman) into being her sexual muse. What starts as a fantasy for the aspiring artist soon devolves into a spiraling nightmare. Details about Charli’s role have remained under wraps.

Sarah Snook to Make Broadway Debut in ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’
Sarah Snook
Sarah Snook, an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress known for her role on the HBO series “Succession,” will make her Broadway debut this spring. At a Friday afternoon press conference, Nicole Kidman said that the anticipation of presenting the world premiere of her new erotic thriller Babygirl had her feeling “exposed and vulnerable and frightened.” But those emotions certainly were not on display as the Oscar-winning actress hit the red carpet at Palazzo del Cinema in Venice later that night.

Kidman looked every bit like the confident movie star as she faced the crush of photographers, press and adoring fans in an avant-garde couture creation by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli. Fans lining the barricade erupted with cheers as she made her entrance in a striking ensemble that featured a corset bustier in nude organza embroidered with black sequins that cascaded into black fringes. The look was paired with a long black velvet skirt and stilettos. Kidman greeted her director Halina Reijn, dressed in a white cape, and the two gathered for a warm embrace.
