Her sophomore project, 2022's Don't Worry Darling, was covered in controversy and critically panned, but was still a hit with the audience and a commercial success.

With several other projects as director on the way, Wilde has a brand-new film: the date night comedy The Invite. Per Variety, her new movie is inspired by the Spanish film Sentimental.The Invite will also reunite her with Seth Rogen after working together on The Studio, and the two will star alongside Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton.

Sentimental, which was officially marketed as The People Upstairs, was released in 2020. It had Cesc Gay at the helm, and starred Javier Cámara, Griselda Siciliani, Belén Cuesta, and Alberto San Juan. The movie was nominated for several awards, including five Goya Awards.

Olivia Wilde is back in the director’s chair, as the “Booksmart” and “Don’t Worry Darling” filmmaker is currently filming her third directorial outing, “The Invite,” first reported by Variety and confirmed by IndieWire. The film follows two couples, neighbors who do not quite get along, who come together for a dinner date night that inspires some unexpected revelations.

“I am tired of myself tonight,” laments the fatally vain title character in The Picture of Dorian Gray. “I should like to be somebody else.” Well, there are abundant somebody elses to choose from on Broadway this month, not only in the stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s 1891 novel, in which Sarah Snook plays 26 characters, but also in Operation Mincemeat, the farcical World War II musical in which five actors take on dozens of personas.

For an actor to change lickety-split between characters introduces an inherent playfulness, even a shared complicity, between audience and performer. We can’t pretend not to know that we’re watching something make-believe when we see a costume change take place before our eyes. And there’s an anarchic wink in common between these two productions—both celebrated London transfers—even as each show aims for something deeper than comic pandemonium.

Update, Oct. 21: The previously announced The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Succession actor Sarah Snook will open Thursday, March 27, 2025 on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. Previews will begin Monday, March 10, 2025. The Picture of Dorian Gray will play a strictly limited engagement for 14 weeks.

Previous, Oct. 1: Following a sold out, critically acclaimed run in the West End, the new adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Succession actor Sarah Snook in 26 roles will open on Broadway in March for a limited engagement.

The production is adapted and directed by Kip Williams. The adaptation began at the Sydney Theatre Company, where Williams is the Artistic Director.

The play will mark Snook’s Broadway debut. She won the Olivier Award for the role in the London premiere production. In it, Snook plays all 26 characters in the story.

The erotic thriller from A24 had its world premiere inside Palazzo del Cinema on Friday evening on the Lido. The capacity crowd seated inside Sala Grande responded with a wild standing ovation for star Nicole Kidman and her cast of collaborators Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde. The audience jumped to their feet as the credits rolled with warm, enthusiastic applause and whoops and hollers for the cast, especially Kidman.
