Piers Morgan on Burying the Hatchet With Trump, Being ‘Bored’ by Harry and Meghan and the ‘Gamble’ of Leaving Murdoch’s Empire to Bet It All on YouTube
Image
Across several banks of screens in a small TV production control room, a group of American pundits are screaming at each other. It’s a Monday afternoon in mid-November and, naturally, the topic is the election. “That’s me playing the world’s smallest violin for all these crying Democrats!” hollers a red-faced Vincent Oshana, a right-leaning comedian. Shortly after, The Young Turks co-creator Cenk Uygur loudly tells pollster Allan Lichtman that he was “stupidly wrong” for forecasting a Democratic victory and “deserves a tall glass of shut-up juice!”

It could be any angry, spittle-flecked political chat show on cable TV. But while the talking heads are beaming in from around the U.S., the entire operation is being orchestrated out of London. And the host and self-proclaimed “ringmaster” — setting the topics, occasionally goading his guests and sitting back to let sparks fly — is Piers Morgan, one of the most...

Rfk Jr. Keeps Pushing Bigoted Covid Conspiracy
Image
Maybe it’s the way his mind works — or maybe it’s the brain worms — but presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a moth to the flame of conspiracy theories. Here’s another one he just can’t seem to quit: the notion that Covid-19 was targeted to spare the Chinese and Ashkenazi Jews its most damaging effects.

Kennedy — whose uncle was a champion of the science that took America to the moon — first uncorked the moonbat notion last summer at a dinner party. In comments that were caught...

Kanye West slammed for praising Hitler in horrific Antisemitic interview
Image
Rapper Kanye West went on a horrific antisemitic tirade during an appearance on Alex Jones’ ‘Infowars’ talk show in which the controversial rapper praised Hitler.

It’s the latest in a string of controversial media appearances for West, who has been dropped by brands such as Adidas due to his antisemitic remarks, reports ‘Variety’.

West told Jones that Hitler, like every human being, brought value to the world. He also said he sees good things about the Nazi founder. Later in the interview, West made antisemitic jokes about former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports ‘Variety’.

The rapper’s latest antisemitic remarks were instantly condemned on social media. Writer Mark Harris tweeted: “The Kanye horrors are laughable but also terrifying. When pro-Nazi rhetoric gets this kind of repeated public airing, the discourse eventually edges into ‘Well that was awful, but can’t we at least talk about…'”

Progressive news network The Young Turks (Tyt) is launching a Twitch channel.

The network, founded by host Cenk Uygur, already boasts a massive presence on YouTube (4.7 million subscribers) and Facebook (3.2 million followers) is foraying onto Twitch -- just as livestreaming is at an all-time high amid quarantine. Penthouse Accuses Judd Apatow of ‘Hypocrisy’ for Past Un-pc Jokes About Lgbt People, Mass Shootings
Penthouse debuted its new website Thursday by publishing a 15-minute video that attempts to show that director-comedian Judd Apatow’s past jokes, remarks and statements are at odds with his current, progressive persona.

The video suggests that Apatow is hypocritical to call out sexism, jokes about Lgbtq people and other social ills because he has made similar jokes in the past in standup routines, talk show appearances and in storylines in his hit comedies.

Reps for Apatow did not respond to requests for comment.

The video cites Apatow’s recent criticism of comics’ “punching down” to vulnerable targets in society. “I feel like it’s more important to say to kids, and to trans people, ‘Hey, I care more about you than this,'” he said in a recent interview, with the video jumping to clips from Apatow movies like “The 40 Year-Old Virgin” that include scenes that play on Lgbt...

The Young Turks Adds ‘Pitchfork Economics’ To Newly-Launched Podcast Network
Left-leaning digital news network The Young Turks (Tyt) has added a business-themed podcast to its recently-launched podcast network -- a venture it unveiled in June alongside audio upstart Panoply Media to expand the reach of and cinch sponsors for a number of shows.

The latest series to join the Tyt audio family is Pitchfork Economics, hosted by Nick Hanauer and primarily focusing on issues like income inequality and fair wages -- as told from the perspective of a successful capitalist. Hanauer was the first non-family investor in Amazon, and a company he founded called aQuantive was ultimately acquired by Microsoft for $6.4 billion. Today, Hanauer is the founder of Civic Ventures -- a self-described “group of political troublemakers devoted to ideas, policies, and actions that catalyze significant social change.”

Forthcoming episodes of Pitchfork Economics -- rolling out every Tuesday -- will feature conversations with notable guests from the political and economic realms,...

Racial Discrimination Complaint Against The Young Turks Leads To A Lawsuit
A former employee of The Young Turks is taking a racial discrimination grievance against the company to court. Andrew Jerell Jones, who spent six months at the progressive-leaning news and commentary outlet in 2017, is seeking $75,000 in damages after alleging that his manager held him to different standards than his white colleagues.

Much of Jones' lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, is centered around Jonathan Larsen, who oversaw Jones' work at The Young Turks. According to the complaint, as reported by Variety, Larsen displayed "general hostile behavior" toward Jones and held him to "ever-shifting" editorial standards. Jones says he reported these allegations to several higher-ups, including The Young Turks CEO Cenk Uygur (pictured above), but received little support in return. Jones was fired in October 2017 after allegedly refusing to sign a contract that asked him to refrain from making a civil rights claim against the company.

YouTube TV Launches Tastemade, Tyt Network 24-Hour Linear Channels
YouTube TV is bringing two digital-first media companies — Tastemade and Tyt Network (aka The Young Turks) — into the pay-tv realm.

Cenk Uygur isn’t happy Trump got elected, but he is fine with stealing parts of his playbook. Not the bad moves — just the ones that are, arguably, good. As the main host and co-creator of The Young Turks, a progressive show which began on Sirirus and now lives online, Uygur is after the same slice of the populist pie as the president he so despises. Cenk Uygur isn’t a household name, but perhaps he should be. He is, literally, internet-famous. The Young Turks gets 200 million views a month, meaning he has more fans that a Wolf Blitzer or a Joe Scarborough. […]...

The Young Turks To Head To The ‘True North’ To Study Climate Change In Go90 Series
The Young Turks is bringing its viewers along on a trip to the Arctic. The progressive news and commentary outlet, known for its sizable audience across platforms like YouTube and Facebook, is behind True North, a docuseries about climate change that will be distributed through Verizon's Go90 platform.

True North, which will consist of 16 11-minute episodes, will be led by John Iadarola, who co-hosts The Young Turks' ThinkTank channel. Alongside a retinue of scientists, cartographers, and other associates, Iadarola will report from remote Arctic locates in order to ascertain how climate change is affecting local populations and ecosystems.

The Young Turks, as part of its thorough coverage of current events, has often tackled climate change, though True North will be the company's most expansive coverage of the subject so far. Here's what Young Turks' co-founder Cenk Uygur had to say when Donald Trump announced his decision to pull out...

Anthony Scaramucci Pulls Out of Politicon After Profanity-Filled Interview
Anthony Scaramucci
Newly appointed White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci will not speak at Politicon after making news with a bizarre, profanity-filled tirade to a reporter from The New Yorker and the convention’s co-founder is still in the dark amid conflicting media reports. Politicon organizers issued the following statement to TheWrap: “While Anthony Scaramucci decided to cancel his scheduled appearance at Politicon this year, the beauty of Politicon is that we have dozens of huge names that political junkies will love, from Chelsea Handler, James Carville, America Ferrera, Cenk Uygur, and Rob Reiner to Ann Coulter, Roger Stone, Tomi Lahren, Ben Shapiro,...

The Young Turks, Bernie Sanders Team Members To Launch Political Movement
During the 2016 presidential primaries, progressive news organization The Young Turks championed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders by interviewing him multiple times and launching several initiatives on his behalf. Sanders ended up ceding the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, but his campaign successfully challenged establishment politics and awakened many voters to the political reality around them.

That sort of education is in line with The Young Turks’ own viewers, and the network is taking action to make sure the policies of the Sanders campaign continue to receive attention. It has announced Justice Democrats, an organization co-led by former Sanders team members that will aid progressive political candidates in order to challenge the Democratic establishment.

The four co-founders of Justice Democrats are Cenk Uygur, co-founder of The Young Turks; Saikat Chakrabarti the Director of Organizing Technology for the Sanders campaign; Zack Exley (a Senior Adviser for the Sanders campaign; and Kyle Kulinski, a talk radio host.

The Young Turks, $500,000 Into $2 Million Goal, Add Nomiki Konst And Shaun King
Digital news outlet The Young Turks (Tyt) is trying to raise two million dollars to fund the creation of four new investigative journalism teams, and with three weeks left before that crowdfunding campaign’s Inauguration Day deadline, it has passed the $500,000 mark. To celebrate that milestone, The Young Turks has announced two new hires to its team: Nomiki Konst has joined the progressive-leaning network as an investigative reporter, while Shaun King has come on as a commentator.

Konst is a political activist who hosts her own show on SiriusXM radio. In an introductory chat with Young Turks co-founder Cenk Uygur, she praised the efforts of Tyt’s first journalist hire, Jordan Chariton, who has reported from newsworthy locations like Flint and Standing Rock. As the next addition to Tyt’s investigative team, Konst will add to Chariton’s work with some of her own.

King, for those who keep in...

The Young Turks Raising $2 Million To Fund Four Investigative Teams
2016 was a busy year for The Young Turks. After hiring reporter Jordan Chariton at the end of 2015, Cenk Uygur’s progressive news network provided wall-to-wall coverage of the 2016 presidential election, and provided key coverage of major events like the Democratic National Convention, the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, and the Indiana lead poisoning scandal.

With a new presidential regime set to launch in January 2017, The Young Turks’ work is far from over, and the network wants to greatly increase the size of its news team in order to provide even more political coverage for its viewers. To that end, Uygur and his team have launched a crowdfunding campaign through which they hope to raise $2 million to support the creation of four new investigative news teams.

Each team would consist of a single reporter, who would be surrounded by editors, producers, and camera people. With an expanded stable of capable journalists, The Young Turks...

On Election Night, The Young Turks Smash Records With 4.5 Million Total Views
On November 8th, the United States turned its eyes to the results of the 2016 presidential election, and one place where its citizens tuned in for their political coverage was The Young Turks. The progressive-leaning news channel had a big night; across three separate live streams -- one each on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter -- it drew more than 4.5 million total hits, smashing its own viewership record.

The bulk of The Young Turks’ viewership came on YouTube, where its hosts, including Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, led a 12-hour broadcast that broke down the election results. At its peak viewership, The Young Turks’ YouTube stream counted 132,979 concurrent viewers. While that is a smaller figure compared to what YouTube drew during the three presidential debates, it is the biggest audience ever for a Young Turks stream, eclipsing the 72,635 viewers the news channel drew for its March 2016 interview with progressive presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Barack Obama Reminds Americans To Make Themselves Heard In YouTube’s #VoteIRL Campaign
Back in September, YouTube launched its #VoteIRL campaign, through which it leveraged the undeniable influence of its creative community in order to urge Americans to participate in their political process. With the results of the presidential election nigh, YouTube brought in its biggest guest star yet. It published a video in which President Barack Obama shared his own #VoteIRL message with viewers.

The video in question in 26 seconds long, making it an appropriate length for distribution as a pre-roll advertising. In lieu of any partisan statements (though his endorsement of Hillary Clinton is no secret), Obama simply encourages Americans to make their voices heard, no matter how they choose to express themselves. “Since the beginning of this campaign, you've made yourself heard in every way,” he says. “Now it's time to take action and decide what you want the future of America to be.” At the end of his spot,...

Cenk Uygur Is Latest Creator To Defend YouTube Against Music Industry Executives
YouTube has picked up a new ally in its battle against the music industry. Cenk Uygur, the co-founder and co-host of progressive news and commentary channel The Young Turks, criticized several of the arguments recording industry big shots have wielded in their fight against YouTube.

In a 10-minute video, Uygur primarily focuses on the arguments presented by music manager Irving Azoff in a May 2016 open letter. In his letter, Azoff attacked YouTube’s Content ID system, which he called “meaningless,” and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s “safe harbor” provision, which he said gives YouTube an “unfair advantage.” Several top music acts, such as Taylor Swift and U2, co-signed Azoff’s comments.

For Uygur, those arguments don’t hold up. He notes that sites like YouTube "can't police the entire Internet” makes a comparison to Twitter, which would never survive if it were to be held responsible for the comments on its platform.

Violence or Unity? Five More Headlines That Might Happen at the Republican Convention
Donald Trump
No one could have predicted that the big story coming out of the first day of the Republican National Convention would revolve around speech plagiarism.

Earlier on Monday, the top news coming out of Cleveland was the group of anti-Donald Trump delegates attempting to force a roll call vote. When that was denied, the Colorado delegation left the arena floor.

But then came Melania Trump’s primetime speech. Blatantly obvious similarities between her speech and one Michelle Obama gave at the 2008 Democratic convention quickly became the top story coming out of the Rnc as Monday turned into Tuesday. (Yes, that means Scott Baio’s and Antonio Sabato Jr.’s quick speeches became quick afterthoughts.)

The Young Turks Pledges $1 Million Donation If Donald Trump Agrees To Debate Bernie Sanders
After Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, told Jimmy Kimmel that he would be willing to debate Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders -- if Sanders or a television network airing the debate would donate money to charity -- one of Sanders’ most ardent digital supporters has weighed in with a lofty offer.

Cenk Uygur, host and co-founder of The Young Turks, said that the digital news network would donate $1 million to charity if Trump and Sanders debated on its airwaves before the California primary. “We’re all in,” tweeted Uygur, who has interviewed Sanders before and is also sitting down with him this evening at 6 p.m. Est for a discussion that will be broadcast live on The Young Turks’ YouTube and Facebook pages.

Uygur, who has been introducing Sanders at rallies across California in recent weeks ahead of the primary on June 7, also noted that The Young Turks had...
