It was recently announced that Mike Tyson will face off against YouTube personality Jake Paul. Paul, whose professional record stands at 9-1 following a first-round win over Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico on March 2, is set to take on the boxing legend.

The return to boxing by former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield after more than a decade away from the sport did not go well.

The 58-year-old Holyfield was Tko’d in the first round by Vitor Belfort in a PPV match Saturday at Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Holyfield was returning to boxing as a last-minute fill-in for Oscar De La Hoya, who dropped out after contracting Covid-19.

Belfort, a 44-year-old former UFC fighter, was on Holyfield from the first bell, backing him into the ropes with a flurry of quick punches. Holyfield was knocked to the canvas twice before the referee stopped the match.

Holyfield never landed a punch. The former champ is best known for his two victories over Mike Tyson, which include the famous “ear bite” fight between the two.

The Trumps’ fight commentary will be one of two options for people shelling out $49.95 to watch 58-year-old Holyfield and 44-year-old Vitor Belfort beat each other up. Longtime HBO fight commentator Jim Lampley will call the official telecast alongside former welterweight world champion Shawn Porter. Either way, the event will stream on Fite.TV.

In the ’90s, he put on the Mike Tyson-Michael Spinks bout at his Atlantic City casino. As the 45th President of the United States, he pardoned heavyweight champion Jack Johnson in an Oval Office ceremony attended by Lennox Lewis, Deontay Wilder and Sylvester Stallone. He also claimed to have won $20 million betting on Evander Holyfield when he upset Mike Tyson in 1996, though no sports book could ever confirm Trump placed such a bet.

That last story may surface again on Saturday, when the former president will “provide guest commentary” for the heavyweight boxing match between former champion Holyfield, 58, and former UFC champ Vitor Belfort, 44. The Ufc Batamweight Champion was recently named as the new female face of the jeans brand, which is a clothing line from Buffalo David Bitton. The company will hope to benefit from her increasing commercial presence, now that she’s much more than just a fighter having starred in movies like The Expendables 3 and Furious 7.

They are sure to have caught instant attention after casting Rousey in a topless shot. The black and white photo of the fighter shows her just holding her breasts.

Funnily, a further shot has caused lots of controversy. The person who photoshopped it has made a big error and left Rousey with a seriously strange shoulder. The very fact that it has been photoshopped may be upsetting to Rousey, who has previously spoken out on women’s body image issues.

Well, the Ufc has finally done it: it has announced the return of Anderson Silva, in a fight that actually more or less qualifies as a super fight, to be held at Ufc 183 on January 31st, 2015. There, he will meet the ever controversial Nick Diaz in a fight that promises to be an explosive clash of striking styles, given that neither man is known for wrestling opponents.

As a result, it’s the volume punching of Diaz against the accuracy and agility of Silva in what will no doubt be one of, if not the, most anticipated bouts of the next half year or so.

Make no mistake: Diaz is a dangerous return fight for Silva, despite the Stockton fighter going up in weight to meet The Spider. You can rest assured that Silva won’t be clowning against Diaz, who will actually be one of the better names Silva...

Despite an out-of-competition drug test failure in February that Belfort admitted to just recently via an Instagram post, and despite a past Ped failure, the Nsac has, in its wisdom, granted the two-time offender a license to fight in the heart of Mma land, Nevada. The Nsac is considered the most influential, powerful athletic commission in North America (and likely the world), so this opens the door for Belfort to fight just about anywhere.

Immediately after the Nsac ruling, Belfort was announced in a fight with Chris Weidman at Ufc 181 in December, a card that already has lightweight champ Anthony Pettis taking on Gilbert Melendez.

Should they have gone this route, however? Should the Nsac have overlooked two past failures?

Let me preface this by saying that I love watching Belfort fight. He’s fantastic in the cage. His fights are always exciting.

After months of speculation, former Ufc Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort has been granted a license by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

The rollercoaster situation began in February when Belfort, a well documented user of testosterone replacement therapy, failed a test for having elevated levels of testosterone. Though those results weren’t released until months later, the Nevada Athletic Commission banned the use of Trt within the state. Shortly after, the Ufc followed Nevada’s lead. Belfort had previously qualified for a therapeutic use exemption for Trt.

This ruling set off a horrible chain of events for the Ufc, as Belfort withdrew from his planned May fight with Chris Weidman, while Wanderlei Silva ran from a drug test altogether ahead of his fight with bitter rival Chael Sonnen. Belfort would then offer to face Sonnen, who would also fail two drug tests.

They stuck with Chael Sonnen through thick and thin, through antics funny and sometimes outright strange, but the Ufc and Chael Sonnen seem to have parted ways – at least as far as having him as a broadcaster.

In a joint statement released by Fox and the Ufc, it appears the Chael Sonnen has been terminated from his broadcasting duties. This comes on the heels of an announcement by the Nsac that Sonnen had failed a second drug test.

Per the statement:

The Ufc and Fox Sports organizations announced today the termination of their respective broadcasting services agreements with analyst Chael Sonnen. This decision comes in light of Sonnen failing a second test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission for banned substances in June. Sonnen was previously under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing an initial test conducted in May.

Chris Weidman had a phenomenal 2013, defeating Anderson Silva first at Ufc 162, capturing the Ufc Middleweight title in the process, and then beating ‘The Spider’ once again at Ufc 168 in December, retaining his title via technical knockout when Anderson Silva suffered a horrific injury, breaking his left fibula and tibia when Weidman checked one of Anderson’s low kicks. Weidman will now face Lyoto Machida in the main event of Ufc 175 on July 5th, with the Ufc Middleweight title on the line.

Although Weidman defeated the legendary Anderson Silva twice, he still isn’t considered as a legitimate champion by some of his critics. Come Saturday, Weidman will have the perfect opportunity to silence his critics once and for all with a victory over the former Ufc Lightweight champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, who is also one of the most respected fighters in the history of Mma.

With two title fights, a heavyweight tilt that marks the return of Stephen Struve, and the return of the much-hyped Uriah Hall, Ufc 175 promises to deliver – at least on paper. Even the loss of Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva/Vitor Belfort hasn’t dulled the anticipation for the event (well, not too much), and the Ufc has to be hoping that it will make bank when it comes time to order the fight, given the tepid performance of recent PPVs. The promotion goes big every July, and there’s a lot on the line with this card.

The fallout from the Chael Sonnen-Wanderlei Silva fight that had been scheduled for July 5th continues.

The doomed Ufc 175 fight, altered to Sonnen against Vitor Belfort after Wanderlei Silva allegedly dodged an Nsac-initiated surprise drug test (news which was broken by Sonnen himself on Ufc Tonight), was pulled from the card altogether after Chael tested positive for banned substances earlier this month and announced his retirement from the sport.

It’s a sad week for the world of mixed martial arts and the Ufc. After a career that spanned 17 years, including three Ufc championship fights, Chael Sonnen announced his retirement from the sport. The most outspoken and charismatic fighter in Ufc’s history recently failed a drug test for banned substances leading to his removal from his fight against Vitor Belfort at Ufc 175, and rather than wait out another suspension that would push him even further down the ladder of contention, “The American Gangster” opted to call it a career.

The substances in question were allegedly being taken to aid with Sonnen’s fertility issues, but the legitimacy of that has been questioned. Regardless of the veracity of those claims, and what your views on Chael Sonnen as a fighter and a person may be, the Ufc has lost one of their most marketable stars.

After a week of turmoil, Vitor Belfort, just added to Ufc 175, is off the card again.

Following the events of the past few days which saw Wanderlei Silva replaced at Ufc 175 by Vitor Belfort, only to have scheduled opponent Chael Sonnen retire after failing an out-of-competition drug test, Belfort has been removed from the card, as it appears that no suitable replacement fighter could be found for the fight.

Ufc.com has updated its fight card line-up to reflect this, and while no official announcement has been made, former Ultimate Fighter standout Uriah Hall could wind up opening the main card portion of the event.

Following a positive drug test for banned substances including anastrozole and clomiphene, Chael Sonnen has announced his retirement after 17 years.

“I am officially done, I will not set foot in that octagon again” said Sonnen on Wednesday night’s Ufc Tonight, where he also serves as a host.

Sonnen is best known for being the first man to take Ufc legend Anderson Silva into deep waters, and for being a brash, trash talking master on the mic. Originally slated to settle a long-running feud with Wanderlei Silva at the upcoming Ufc 175 event in July, his opponent was changed recently to Vitor Belfort when Silva ran out on a surprise drug test. In another unbelievable Ufc 175 twist, Chael Sonnen is off the card due to a positive drug test.

Big news has just broke from Espn as they have reported that the Ufc’s Chael Sonnen has failed a drug test, something the Nsac has also confirmed. This is an unbelievable twist in the history of the match and the event, as Sonnen was originally due to face Wanderlei Silva, who was dropped from the card when he dodged an Nsac surprise drug test. Silva was replaced by Vitor Belfort, who then revealed that he had failed a drug test of his own this past February, and would have to go before the Nsac later this month to plead his case for a fight license.

After months of speculation, the Ufc’s Vitor Belfort, set to face Chael Sonnen at Ufc 175 in July pending a hearing with the Nsac, has released a statement via Instagram in which he admits to failing an out of competition drug test earlier this year. The result of the February test, long suspected to have been a failure due to Belfort’s avoidance of the issue, will likely play a key role in whether the fighter will be granted a license to appear at the July event, hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wanderlai Silva ran away from a drug test, forcing his Ufc 175 fight against Chael Sonnen to be cancelled, according to Sonnen on Ufc Tonight.

Sonnen had stated from the moment that his fight was announced that he believed Silva would end up backing out. Well, Sonnen was spot on in his assessment. Wanderlai will not be able to compete, officially due to a failure to get licensing in the state of Nevada. Stepping in for Silva to face Sonnen will be Vitor Belfort.

Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Robert Bennett told MMAFighting.com that Silva had “ample time” to secure his fighter’s license. MMAFighting also confirmed from numerous sources that Sonnen and Silva were asked to take an unannounced random drug test last week. Both guys were in town for the introductory news conference to announce the Ufc 175 card. Sonnen complied and took the test, while Silva refused.

The punches were flying at Ufc Fight Night 36 on Feb. 15, and after the dust settled, Lyoto had outfoxed his opponent and given himself a potential shot at the middleweight title belt.

Though Lyoto Machida couldn’t knock out his opponent Gerard Mousasi at Ufc Fight Night 36 on Feb. 15, he clearly dominated the five-round match, and went home with an unanimous decision victory.

Mma is now The fastest growing sport worldwide with specialist ‘fight clubs’ springing up all over. As an indication of the sport’s enduring appeal, people are happy to take up the full contact sport just for fitness alone these days, with pounding the treadmill at your local gym becoming less appealing, especially to the younger generation.

Of course for the truly gifted and most dedicated of athletes the path of an Mma fighter can lead to the pinnacle of combat sports and the bright lights of the the Ufc.

A spectacular card concluded in Sao Paolo, Brazil this past weekend with the Ufc on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping. Despite a title shot looming with a win, Michael “The Count” Bisping (23-5) fell in astonishing fashion with a devastating head kick by Vitor Belfort (22-10) in the second round. This was the 15th knockout of Vitor’s illustrious and storied career.

Episode (018) Summary

The only fight on the Facebook prelims features Lightweights Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo (11-2) against C. J. Keith (8-1). Trinaldo has brutal ground and pound as he displayed on the Ultimate Fighter: Brazil. Massaranduba has more experience and has faced better competition, making Keith’s only tactic to ground and smother the Brazilian with his freestyle wrestling.

The card moves onto the Fuel TV fights with Light Heavies Wagner Prado (8-1-1) facing off against last minute replacement Ildemar Alcantara...

So a Featherweight wins in impressive fashion and nobody cares; Matt Hammill and Roger Hollett clearly shouldn’t be fighting on the main card of a Pay Per View; Michael Bisping is still a World Class Middleweight; Two little guys fight back and forth for five rounds to crown a World Champion and fans boo; Jon Jones remains the greatest fighter on the planet. Ufc 152 is done and dusted and not a great deal has changed.

Not withstanding the fact that we do have that new Champion to talk about – Demetrious Johnson outpointing Joseph Benavidez – and the fact that Vitor Belfort came closer than anyone else in the Ufc to beating Jon Jones despite the eventually one-sided main event. Now, what next? Another Flyweight World Title bout, a Middleweight contender’s bout, and a Superfight between the two best in the World? Here’s the eight bouts the Ufc need...

For those watching Ufc 152 on Saturday night the sight of former Ufc light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort locking in an armbar that was seconds away from snapping Jon Jones‘ arm was cringe worthy. There was no doubt that his arm was damaged after that point but the champion was able to survive and came back from the brink of defeat in the first round, submitting his veteran opponent via americana arm lock in the fourth round.

Today, MMAJunkie reported that Jones had been told by doctors that he may have nerve damage to his right bicep. While Jones’ impressive victory had many discussing the reigning champion’s next opponent, Bones’ arm will likely sideline him at least until the end of the first quarter of 2013.

With all the injuries plaguing the sport at the moment the damage sustained by one of the Ufc’s most marketable fighters compounds Ufc President Dana White’s frustration.

With just over 24 hours left before Ufc 152 gets underway at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, The Star is reporting that tickets are still available. This may come as a surprise considering the fact that the main card includes two Ufc title bouts and the main event features Jon Jones, one of the organization’s most polarizing figures.

The recent cancellation of Ufc 151 due to Jones’ refusal to take a fight against Chael Sonnen on short notice may have led some to quickly blame Jones and his trainers for the black eye that the sport has received in the last few weeks.

However, the failure to sell out the Air Canada Centre cannot be solely placed at the feet of the light heavyweight champ. Rather, it is more likely that the card’s initial lack of star power, mixed with a perceived oversaturation of mixed martial arts in recent months...

Earlier today we brought news that Georges St-Pierre had inked a deal with Coca-Cola subsidiary Nos Energy Drinks. Now, The Sacramento Bee has reported that current Ufc light heavyweight champion Jon Jones announced today that he has extended his sponsorship agreement with Everlast.

Matt Cowan, Executive VP, Sales, Marketing & Product Development for the sports apparel company had this to say about re-signing the young champion:

Jon’s dedication and athleticism have transcended the sport and inspired the next generation of fighters… As the sport continues to evolve and expand globally, it is fighters like Jon that inspire the innovation and performance of our products.

Jones had some kind words of his own for his sponsors, stating that:

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (Ufc) returns to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto for Ufc 152: Jones Vs Belfort on Saturday, September 22 and current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be looking to restore his reputation after the highly publicized fiasco that caused Ufc 151’s cancellation earlier this month.

In brief, Jon Jones’ refusal to fight Chael Sonnen following an eleventh hour injury sustained by his original opponent, Dan Henderson, led to a series of confusing match up changes that eventually did not come to fruition and doomed Ufc 151.

The cancellation likely cost the organization millions of dollars and obviously irritated the mixed martial arts community. Nevertheless, Jones has acknowledged his mistake and wants to make sure he can shed his newly minted characterization as a villain.

He explained in a recent interview with MMAWeekly:

I am not going to say I embraced the role of being a villain because I am not.

After the disaster that was Ufc 151, where the organisation had to cancel an entire card for the first time in its history, Ufc chairman Dana White will be hoping Ufc 152 delivers.

There has been much debate in the past few weeks over Jon Jones’ decision to turn down a fight with Chael Sonnen on 8 days’ notice, a decision which subsequently resulted in the collapse of Ufc 151. The Light Heavyweight champion has come under a lot of flak from fans and fellow fighters and will be looking to redeem himself in Ufc 152′s main event against the Brazilian Vitor Belfort.

Elsewhere on a stacked main card Featherweights Cub Swanson and Charles Oliviera square off as well as Light Heavyweights Matt Hamill and Roger Hollett. Michael Bisping will face Brian Stann with the winner likely to get a title shot at Anderson Silva and history will be made as the first ever...

This Saturday Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen square off for a second time in an eagerly anticipated rematch. The build-up has been intense and the stare down at this week’s press conference was heated to say the least. There are many that feel Sonnen provides the perfect foil to Silva’s greatness. They are wrong.

Anderson Silva has more tools in his locker than any other fighter. He can end a fight at any time from anywhere. If the action is standing then he has a wealth of strikes available to him to finish the fight whether it be the front kick that dispatched Vitor Belfort, the elbow which left Tony Fryklund a crumpled heap on the floor or the jab (that’s right a jab) which stopped Forrest Griffin. Although the Ufc has travelled to Brazil twice in around six months, there can be little doubt that Dana White will want to take the promotion to South America sometime in the near future. For, like Ufc 134, the first main card of 2012 had something of everything for the 17,000+ capacity crowd and the millions of people who watched the event live across the globe: spectacular submissions, knock-outs, and a wealth of controversy both in and outside of the octagon.

The drama began early the previous evening when Dana White announced that American wrestler Anthony Johnson- who recently moved up a weight-class to middleweight- would fail to meet the agreed non-title limit of 186lbs. Eventually, although his opponent Vitor Belfort accepted the bout, Johnson- whose team had contrived a spectacular narrative of excuses for the fighter- weighed in at an almost preposterous 197lbs and had to weigh in again the next...

On Saturday the Ufc will return to the spiritual home of mixed martial arts for only the third time in its history, and it augurs well for Ufc 142 that on the previous two occasions upon which the organisation has visited South America, the results were spectacular.

It is well known that the Ufc was founded by the legendary no holds barred fighting family, the Gracie’s; however, it had been twelve years since the last event in Brazil when middleweight champion fought Yushin Okami at Ufc 134 and his performance- and the event as a whole- were regarded as among the finest in Mma history.

This weekend, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will make its way to Dallas for a show headlined by a catchweight match between Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort. Watching Ufc remains a favorite pastime in the Newsroom (as well as at Hayley Williams' house), and this weekend's card looks like it'll be a satisfying sleeper. Franklin and Belfort are both former champions trying to re-establish themselves as contenders in a crowded field. But no matter what the tale of the tape says, everybody knows the difference between sweet victory and crushing defeat comes down to a single criterion: Who has the better entrance music?

It's worked well for a number of fighters. Brock Lesnar used Mötley Crüe's "Shout at the Devil" as his music in his first fight (which he lost in 90 seconds), switched to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and hasn't lost since, becoming the heavyweight champion in the process.
