WME Stalwart Jon Rosen Exits to Launch Management Firm
Image
Jon Rosen, a longtime WME agent and executive who has represented some of TV’s best known news anchors and celebrity chefs, is leaving the Endeavor-owned agency to launch his own management firm, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Rosen, who represents NBC News’ Stephanie Ruhle, Willie Geist and Hallie Jackson as well as CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, is set to manage many of his current clients, according to one of these people, and they are expected to retain WME as an agency. A WME spokesperson did not respond immediately to a query seeking comment and Rosen could not be reached immediately for comment via a call Wednesday.

His exit comes as WME parent Endeavor has come under new scrutiny on Wall Street. The company, which recently helped create the combat-sports company Tko, suggested in October that it might consider going private.

Rosen, who has closed deals...

It’s No Joke — The Netflix Bites Restaurant Is Serious About the Food
Image
Ever since Netflix announced it would be opening a Los Angeles pop-up restaurant, the jokes have been flying on social media. Would the servers use an algorithm to ask, “Since you liked grilled cheese, can we suggest broccoli?” Would you be allowed to share food with your friends or would it be forbidden, like Netflix password-sharing?

But at the preview night Tuesday for Netflix Bites at Short Stories Hotel on Fairfax, it was clear that the seriously delicious menu for the three-month pop-up, inspired by the streamer’s food programming, was no laughing matter. Imaginative cocktails from mixologists, like “Drink Masters” contestant Kate Gerwin, got guests in the mood with concoctions like the Oaxacan on Top of the World, while Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos mingled with the chefs. Netflix’s VP of Live Experiences Greg Lombardo welcomed guests, explaining, “We’re always focused on bringing our fans closer to the stories that they love.

Brown first joined Food Network in the late ’90s, and was the host and creator of “Good Eats,” as well as the host of “Iron Chef America,” “Cutthroat Kitchen” and a slew of other series at Food Network and the Cooking Channel.

Though his exit was never formally announced, Brown’s last deal with Food Network took him through 2020, and since, he has quietly left their airwaves. In 2021, new episodes of his shows have aired — “Good Eats: The Return,...

‘Finding Your Roots’: Larry David and Bernie Sanders Are Related, and More Shocking Revelations From PBS’ Ancestry Series
Larry David
Although Larry David had impersonated Senator Bernie Sanders brilliantly multiple times on “Saturday Night Live,” the men’s resemblance was written off as nothing but a joke. After all, they’re both older Jewish men from New York. Of course they’re similar.

On Tuesday night’s premiere of PBS’ “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” though, they discovered they have far more in common than just looks. After running a DNA test on the two, host Gates revealed that they share significantly long sequences of identical DNA. In short, they’re related.

'Top Chef Boston' shakes things up
Top Chef (2006)
"Top Chef Boston" is the 12th season of Bravo's only remaining talent competition, unless "The Real Housewives" count as competitions for attention and screen time. Its first episode made a number of small changes that appeared designed to keep its contestants guessing. The premiere was also less about Boston and more about "Top Chef," as the show repeatedly pointed out its own successes. That started with the addition of new judge Richard Blais and continued with guest appearances from past contestants and one winner, and also included several contestants with ties to the show. For example, the winner of the first elimination challenge, Mei Lin, works with season-six winner Michael Voltaggio; the first person to go home, George, was Mike Isabella's business partner. Sudden death quickfire. The episode began with the potential for one chef to go home immediately. Teams of four shucked and filleted things in a mis en place relay,...

Simply Ming: Cooking with Friends & Family
Nowadays you don’t even have to love cooking to watch the Food Network. Watching a cooking show has become as commonplace as any reality program, and so the culture of the “foodie” has risen dramatically in popularity. With that trend comes the expectation that certain TV cooking personalities should just be common household names, among them you have Mario Batali, Emeril Lagassi (or just say “Bam!” – you don’t have to know why), Ina Garten, or Paula Deen. Somewhere in that expertly seasoned rainbow of personalities you’ll find the comparably mellow Ming Tsai whose straightforward and good-natured manner in the kitchen make him an easy cook to learn from.

Kindergartner Spits Out Tom Colicchio's Food at Great American Family Dinner Challenge
"Top Chef" judge Tom Colicchio may be a culinary heavyweight, but at the Great American Family Dinner Challenge, he was upstaged by kindergartner Austin Jackson, who spit out Colicchio's fare in front of a packed house. The event challenged two teams of professional chefs -- Colicchio and Maria Hines on one team and Ming Tsai and Holly Smith on the other -- to create a complete multicourse dinner using a $10 food stamp budget.

The 6-year-old didn't like two of Colicchio's dishes: a beef stir-fry and a salad comprised of shredded carrot, raisin and apple. He also hated Tsai and Smith's frisee and avocado salad and veggie quinoa with chicken thighs.

Read Tim Carman's wrap-up of the event for The Washington Post here; one of his photos from the challenge appears above. For more on food stamps, see this article.

Top Chef All-stars Recap: Can You Tell Me How To Get To Chef-same Street?
We’re into Episode 10 of Top Chef All-Stars, entitled “Lock Down”, which starts exactly how you’d expect something called “Lock Down” to start – with Sesame Street characters popping up and giving Tiffany a heart attack: “Oh thank God – for a second there, I thought it was three actual monsters.” I love that the Quickfire starts with Padma whimsically rhyming her sentences, and Dale’s like “Is Padma speaking in tongues? What could Possibly be going on here??” Do the contestanchefsts still not realize that when Padma does something unusual (or anything), she’s about to introduce a challenge? “I think she just went insane and Bravo’s filming it and I guess there’s no Quickfire today” – Every Chef. Tell them about our Quickfire, Cookie Monster! (I’ll bet they have to bake monsters): The chefs have to bake cookies for guest judges Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Telly...

Top Chef All-Stars Recap: Takeover Target!
Top Chef (2006)
I can’t believe the way Bravo preempted last night’s episode of Top Chef All-Stars and ran an extended infomercial for Target in its place. “Target has an expanded store, with a varied selection of fresh produce and groceries. You can find anything you need to cook and prepare a delicious meal for an entire family,” cooed Padma Lakshmi, in her best “sexy robot gonna hypnotize you” tone. And just like that, I had an overwhelming urge to spend a minimum of $100 on breakfast cereal, flannel shirts, and cheap but durable kitchenware emblazoned with geometric patterns and/or hummingbirds.

'Next Iron Chef' winner Marc Forgione talks turkey, Ming Tsai and Thanksgiving
Marc Forgione, the winner of Season 3's "The Next Iron Chef," wants to make it clear that he loves turkey, despite creating a turkey-less Thanksgiving feast that won him the competition on Sunday night's (Nov. 21) finale.

"I have nothing against turkey. I love turkey. I think turkey's delicious," Forgione tells Zap2it. "I have turkey every Thanksgiving and we serve turkey at my restaurant."

"They just didn't eat it at the first Thanksgiving," he continues, explaining his final battle menu to honor the tradition of Thanksgiving. "It had nothing to do with me not wanting to cook turkey or that I couldn't cook turkey. I was just sticking to my Harvest Festival of 1621. In 1621 the domestic turkey that we know was not there. Again, the word was 'Honor' for that battle and I was honoring the first party that those guys had."

Forgione's personal Thanksgiving tradition involves turkey, his family...

'The Next Iron Chef': Forgione or Canora Ftw? Vote!
It's down to two on "The Next Iron Chef."

New York chefs Marc Forgione and Marco Canora withstood some pretty harrowing challenges and tough competitors (including Ming Tsai) to be the last chefs standing for the finale Sunday night (Nov. 21).

And after withstanding all that, the winner gets to do it all over again ... and again as the newest in-house competitor on "Iron Chef America," following in the footsteps of Michael Symon and Jose Garces before him.

Here's a look back at the competition:

Chef Forgione - As the son of New York's Larry Forgione, culinary creations are in Marc's blood. The mohawked chef has only won two challenges: The Secret Ingredient challenge for Resourcefulness: pickles and the Chairman's Innovation challenge to update a roadside diner classic. It was his masterful use of lobster for the Seduction challenge that landed him in the finals.

Chef Canora - He's actually racked...

'Next Iron Chef 3' host Alton Brown: It's 'grueling'
Host Alton Brown believes that "The Next Iron Chef 3," which premieres Sunday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt, is definitely more difficult than the previous two seasons. Hear that, Chefs Michael Symon and Jose Garces? You had it easy.

"We know how to make them really hard by now," Brown tells Zap2it. "It's forcing the chefs to either cook in places that really are challenges for restaurant chefs, to cook with ingredients that they've probably not worked with before and to do a lot of reinterpretation of who they are as a cook. It forces them to do a lot of looking inward.

"So the tasks are more difficult. Some of them are just from a workload and time standpoint, absolutely grueling. I shudder to recall a few of them. I wouldn't have made it. I may have made it to the third round."

'Party Down' crew gets 'Temps' job, more multiples at Tlc
It's important to eat a good breakfast every day. Or, you could fill up on some snack-sized pieces of TV news.

"Party Down" lives! Ok, that's overstating things -- but the late Starz series' creators (Rob Thomas, John Enbom and Dan Etheridge) have sold a pilot to NBC that sounds like it could have a similar spirit: It's called "Temps," and it's about people working various temp jobs to make ends meet. [Variety]

Tlc might as well stand for The Lots-of-Kids Channel: It's ordered a new show called "Sextuplets Take New York," about the Carpio family of Queens, their six toddlers and their 9-year-old son. [Tlc]

"Survivor" host Jeff Probst, who won his third straight Emmy for best reality host last weekend, will be a presenter at Sunday's (Aug. 29) Primetime Emmys. Probst and other hosts had grumbled about their category being relegated to the Creative Arts awards, but fences have apparently been mended.
