She cites the main reason for her departure from Felicity (1998) in 2000 was that she needed to grieve for her mother. Her mother had died two years previously and she felt that being on such a prominent show hadn't given her the time or space to do so.

Wrote story 'Memories of My Mother' in the book 'Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff'.

August 19, 1998, her mother, Christine, died of uterine cancer, with which she had struggled for ten months. In January 1998, she won the role of Julie Emrick on Felicity (1998) but considered turning it down to be with her mother, during her last days.

Decided to leave Power Rangers (1993) midway through the third season because she was ready to move on and find other acting opportunities.

[on her transition from kids shows to drama shows] I think I just grew up. At a certain point I'm just not a kid anymore. But boy did I ride that out! I was 28 years old when I played Julie Emrick on Felicity. Love that!!

[on asking if she kept any props from her time on the Power Rangers show] I wish I did!! Would come in handy right now with our Indiegogo campaign for my first feature film The Space Between. Ah well...

[Being asked if she would make a cameo in any of the upcoming Power Rangers films] I did hear about this and would absolutely do a cameo in these films if I were asked. What fun would that be!

[on the question if she likes behind the scenes work in oppose to acting] Yes, I do. I feel more comfortable behind the camera for some reason. I think it's where I was meant to be. The 20 years I spent in front of the camera has been the best training ground on so many levels for me. I do still enjoy acting, but my heart is in writing and directing.
