Appearing on Both the Original Series of Star Trek and Lost in Space

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 25 - The Space Croppers and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 7 What Are Little Girls Made Of? Apparently, the only woman to have appeared on both series. She was one of the three or four most beautiful ladies to have appeared on either show, the most for my money. She was excellent on both shows. Playing Effra, an oversexed, strong-willed extraterrestrial hillbilly enchantress on Lost in Space and William Shatner's and Michael Strong's naive but sultry android love interest, Andrea, on Star Trek. Two diversely different performances that were two of the best of either series.

Lost in Space Season 2 Episode 9 The Thief of Outer Space and Star Trek Season 1 Episodes 0, 11 and 12 The Cage and The Menagerie. No surprise Malachi shows up on both series as he seemed to appear on every TV show at one time or another. Whereas, he was merely a voice in the Star Trek original pilot, when that pilot was expanded to the first season's two part episodes 11 and 12 of The Menagerie he was added in as the holographic Commodore Mendez (oops). In The Thief of Outer Space his flamboyant performance managed to keep the story afloat till its predictably ironic ending.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 23 The Great Vegetable Rebellion and Star Trek Season 2 Episode 15 The Trouble with Tribbles. One of the more lovable TV character actors appears in two of the more lovable episodes of the two series. The legendary Tribbles episode is known to almost everyone and was even parodied in MadTV's "Kirk and Spock Variety Hour" featuring the June Taylor Tribble dancers. The Great Vegetable Rebellion's Tybo, an authoritative carrot with a chip-on-his-shoulder (reminiscent of anyone?) was the perfect role for Stanley's bravado.

Lost in Space Season 2 Episode 9 The Thief of Outer Space and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 7 What Are Little Girls Made Of?. The beloved Lurch portrayer was slightly more menacing as the Thief's duplicitous henchman on LIS but he was never so menacing as Ruk on Star Trek. I don't know what Little Girls Are Made Of but his performance is what nightmares are made of. He appeared also as the Gorn and Clint Howard's puppet but those appearances are negligible compared to Ruk.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 18 Time Merchant and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 16 The Galileo Seven. The contentious Commissioner Ferris didn't offer much for the veteran guest star in one of Star Trek's drearier episodes but Lost in Space gave him a lot more to work with as the time snipping Dr. Chronos.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 22 The Challenge and Star Trek Season 3 Episode 7 Day of the Dove. Two pretty minor-league stories and Michael was not one to rise above the material. Day of the Dove was evidence that Star Trek was running out of steam. Of the two episodes The Challenge was far more notable as it also guest starred a 14 year old Kurt Russell as Ansara's son pitted against Billy Mumy. Before long LIS realized serious was not for them.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 15 Return from Outer Space and Season 3 Episode 19 The Promised Planet Star Trek Season 1 Episode 8 Miri. Star Trek was merely a nameless bit part but Lost in Space afforded him his forte as a blowhard bully, twice. His "take" worked for both even though one was strictly serious if bewildering and the other one of their most tongue-in-cheek which is saying a ton. It's like freaky, Man.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 21 The Magic Mirror and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 8 Miri. The perennial oddball was not given a pivotal role on Star Trek but he was perfect for LIS's come-of-age allegory. I remember being very saddened by the ending when I was 11 years old.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 24 His Majesty Smith and Star Trek Season 3 Episode 10 Plato's Stepchildren. Charm was the main element of both Liam's roles. Lost in Space was close to closing its first season and was looking to inject some sarcasm before going rogue with their next episode. Star Trek was seemingly finding it hard to be serious. Kirk and Spock doing jigs was what probably led to the Kirk and Spock Variety Hour.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 23 The Space Trader and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 21 The Return of the Archons. On Star Trek Torin was a bureaucratic enforcer for Landru and on LIS he was cut-throat gorcerer. A couple of roles he could sleepwalk through.

Lost in Space Season 2 Episode 12 The Dream Monster and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 26 Errand of Mercy. On Star Trek Abbott is a Ghandi-esque co-leader and on LIS he's stealing the Robinson's personalities for his creation Raddion. Both well beneath his stature.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 5 The Space Primevals and Star Trek Season 3 Episode 19 That Which Survives. I think as Rangah on LIS Arthur channeled Joe E Ross from It's About Space not Car 54. His Star Trek character was the deadest dead-meat role the series ever had. Toddlers and even feeble seniors like myself pointed at the TV and asked, "Is he gonna die?". He didn't even need a red uniform.

Lost in Space Season 2 Episode 6 the Deadly Games of Gamma Six and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 26 Errand of Mercy. LIS didn't give Peter more than a few seconds if memory serves me right. Star Trek gave him a little more but Abbott had the more mellifluous tone so he got the lion share. Peter had to run from set to set as he's one of the 300+ entries performers.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 22 The Flaming Planet and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 2 Charlie X and Season 3 Episode 6 Spectre of the Gun. In one of Star Trek's most famous episodes Charlie X Abraham, who has being a party to the best and the worst the arts have to offer, is a mere disembodied voice and his voice only once again in one of Star Trek's worst, Spectre of the Gun. Now, LIS not only allowed his physical being to appear in The Flaming Planet but they painted him blue and gave him a snow white pageboy to go along with his snow white goatee. It seem to me he was having a lot of fun.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 8 Flight into the Future and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 2 Charlie X. Star Trek's pre-Sulu navigator didn't get any respect. In LIS as a supposed descendent of Dr. Smith he gets to rebuke the good doctor for his all-too-famous nefarious misdeeds.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 18 Time Merchant and Star Trek Season 2 Episode 1 Amok Time and Season 3 Episode For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky. In three episodes he played a general and two different admirals. You got to be a good grumbler.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 2 Visit to a Hostile Planet Season 3 Episode 6 Space Destructors Season 3 Episode 8 Flight into the Future and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 17 The Squire of Gothos Season 1 Episode 28 The City on the Edge of Forever Season Season 2 Episode 16 The Gamesters of Triskelion Season 2 Episode 21 Patterns of Force Season 2 Episode 25 Breads and Circuses. Obviously, Bart is the OG crossover king doing 4 LISs and 6 count 'em 6 Star Treks. Wanted primarily for his voice more than half his series entries are voiceover only. Though, both shows saw fit to let him materialize if minimally.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 7 My Friend, Mr. Nobody Season 1 Episode 20 War of the Robots and Star Trek Season 2 Episode 25 Bread and Circuses. Star Trek dressed him up like a mod cop. LIS used him for voiceover only. Voicing Robby the Robotoid he was properly menacing. As Mr. Nobody he was quite haunting and was an integral part of a special coming-of-age episode.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 9 The Oasis Season 2 Episode 4 Forbidden World and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 0 The Cage Season 1 Episode 25 The Devil in the Dark Season 2 Episode 19 A Private Little War Season3 Episode 22 The Savage Curtain. When a gorilla was called for three men would be considered first, Dawson Palmer, George Barrows and Janos Prohaska. But who do you call to play the horta? Easy, Janos. Anyone else would have a heart attack. Giant birds, molten rock, scrambled egg - Janos is your man.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 0 No Place to Hide Season 1 Episode 4 There Were Giants in the Earth and Star Trek Season 1 Episode 16 The Galileo Seven. Big Buck threw spears on the one of the Trek's metaphorically least adventurous stories. On LIS he created possibly LIS's most iconic monster. IMDb is incomplete though. Even though all the appearances were from one very early shoot, the monster appeared in three episodes. The third one was in color so he also appeared in either the second or third season. An edit is in order.

Lost in Space Season 1 Episode 13 One of Our Dogs is Missing and Star Trek Season 2 Episode 14 Wolf in the Fold. LIS dressed the very talented and versatile Mr. Dierkop in a bear suit and horns and had him hop and wave his arms. Star Trek utilized Charles chops adding a little flavor to a weak who-done-it. Granted his ubiquity I will always remember Charley from The Pawnbroker when he was lounging on his bed flipping through a bodybuilder mag bopping nipples of the musclemen with his snub-nosed 38. It's now part of my psyche.

Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 1 Condemned of Space and Star Trek Season 2 Episode 25 Circuses and Bread. Gil makes two inconspicuous appearances in two inconspicuous episodes.
