The X-Men’s Wolverine has an instantly recognizable costume design that hasn’t changed much over the years aside from a few subtle tweaks and color scheme swaps, with his persona while under the influence of Apocalypse being a short-lived moment in the character’s long and storied history as a superhero. In a new cosplay, Wolverine’s time as the Horseman of Death is brought to life, giving the live-action space a new way to bring Logan to the silver screen.

Creating, wearing, and showing off this deep-cut Wolverine design on social media via Instagram, Mike Washington (@mikedastardly87) is a cosplayer who has cut his teeth bringing Logan and his various character designs into the real world, with this latest look only being one of the many impressive costumes Mike has under his belt.

The launch of Marvel Comics original Ultimate Universe came with a single purpose: update/streamline Marvels greatest heroes and stories for modern readers. Since the first Ultimate title came out in the year 2000 (Ultimate Spider-Man), that meant Earth-1610 was rife with everything one could imagine related to the early 2000s - culture, style, language, etc. But, above all, the Ultimate Universe proved to be just that: ultimate.

Every aspect of the Marvel Universe fans knew from Earth-616 was cranked all the way up. The X-Men were more sleek, edgy, and hard-hitting, Spider-Man was way more of a sarcastic punk than a hapless nerd, and the very name of Earth-1610s Avengers got the ultimate treatment, as the team was literally called The Ultimates. While every corner of the Marvel Universe experienced these updates, there were certainly a few characters in particular who stood out from the rest as being the most ultimate.

Watchmen is famous for its twist ending, but the issue that serves as a precursor to The Authority may have it beat, depicting team leader Jenny Sparks’ origins as a far-more-disturbing tribute to the famous Watchmen. Although The Authority was launched in 1999, it was actually a spinoff from an earlier title, Stormwatch. Released in 1993 during the infamous comics speculator boom, Stormwatch follows a superhero team funded by the United Nations. Overseen by the Weatherman (Henry Bendix), the team watches over the planet from their global satellite.

Although an initial hit, sales across the entire industry started plummeting after the speculator boom. In an attempt to bring new life to the title, writer Warren Ellis was brought in to revamp Stormwatch. But sales never improved, so Ellis took the characters he co-created in Stormwatch and spun them off into their own title with artist Bryan Hitch: The Authority.

Cyborg joined the team at the dawn of the New 52 era, but in Cyborg #1, he admits to his therapist that he was not ready, and the League was not a good fit for him. Cyborg is now in therapy, struggling to work through years of conflicting emotions surrounding his father Silas, who recently passed away. Cyborg flashes back to the funeral. Being trapped as a rocky giant irreparably changed Ben Grimm's life, while Susan Richards' unique biology almost led to her death in childbirth, with only Doctor Doom able to help. Despite this, the Fantastic Four as essential to the world's continued survival, having faced down major threats such as Galactus, Annihilus, and Kang the Conqueror. Tragically, however, it turns out they didn't need powers to fulfill this purpose.

While every X-Men fan knows the original five members - Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, and Angel - it turns out that if Scott Summers hadn't been around to lead the team, their lives would have turned out very differently, including changes to their powers, new codenames, and totally different paths through life. Way back in 1998 the X-Men hero Havok - brother to the iconic Cyclops - seemingly died, but instead had his consciousness thrust into the body of an Alex Summers in another reality - the world of Mutant X.

Mutant X quickly became a beloved alternate-reality comic in the X-Men line of the late 1990s, with new character Bloodstorm - a vampiric version of Ororo Munroe - becoming a breakout star. Just like the alternate reality of Age of Apocalypse, which was created after the death of Charles Xavier before he was able to form the X-Men,...

The X-Men are no strangers to navigating different timelines and realities, and in one world where stalwart leader Cyclops died as a child, it set off a chain of events that led to notorious assassin Elektra aligning with mutants.

The late '90s series Mutant X centers around Cyclops' brother Alex Summers aka Havok, who is thrust into an alternate dimension due to an explosion with a time displacement machine. His spirit enters the body of one of his variants as he is drowning during a fight. He is eventually rescued by his team of mutants, called the Six, and then dispatches all of the Sentinels they are fighting. However, Havok is shocked by this new reality. He assumes the others are somehow in a plot against him, but they are just as wary of him as he is now acting completely different from the Alex Summers from that world.

Many Green Lanterns have entered and left the ranks of the Justice League, but few have claimed a spot among the Yellow Lantern Corps, the residing 'evil' Lanterns that terrorize the universe with fear. Their status among the Lanterns holds the weight of being regarded as villains, with Sinestro leading the charge against the Green Lanterns fighting for good. But that isn't always the case.

For most of their membership and history, Yellow Lanterns are terrifyingly powerful and made moreso through their most heinous acts across the galaxy. With Sinestro in charge, the Yellow Lanterns wield fear as a controlling weapon as a 'Sinestro Corps.' But what if a different Lantern were to take up that leadership role, and give its forces a new mission? Fans don't have to wonder, since the comics already showed what's possible if a newer Green Lantern took Sinestro's spot as the top Yellow Lantern.

There is perhaps no greater rivalry between opposites than the one that exists between Cyclops and Wolverine of the X-Men. These two have been at each other from almost the beginning, but a look into an alternate world proves how much Logan actually needs Scott Summers.

The back and forth relationship between the beam-blasting X-Men leader and the sharp clawed knucklehead began the moment Wolverine was recruited to join the team. The original members of Professor X's team of mutant heroes had been taken hostage by the living island of Krakoa, with Cyclops being the only member to escape. In response Xavier and Scott recruited a new team of mutants that included Wolverine —Canada's angriest and least agreeable superhero. Being a natural loner Logan had a hard time learning to work with the other X-Men, and was especially skeptical of taking orders from the younger and more uptight Cyclops.

Over the years, the Green Lanterns have consistently fought with their opposites: the Sinestro Corps, wielders of the yellow power rings. The Yellow Lanterns have been written as villains, with the main arch nemesis of the famous Hal Jordan spearheading their campaign against the universe. However, one of the more recent takes on the Lanterns of fear shows a new route that the Corps should follow, as a new force for good in the galaxy.

Despite being so heavily affiliated with villainy, the Sinestro Corps have the potential to be heroes, and most of the Lanterns have the choice to use their abilities for good. In fact, with Jessica Cruz becoming a Yellow Lantern, she's able to highlight how members of the Corps don't have to follow Sinestro's ruling and are able to twist their abilities to help people. Despite his undefined stance on heroism, Teth-Adam teams up with the Justice Society to stop the Intergang from acquiring a crown of primordial power connected to the demon champion, Sabbac. After Intergang's leader, Ishmael (Marwan Kenzari), manipulates events to trigger the rebirth of Sabbac in his host body, Black Adam and the Justice Society of America attempt to fight this super-powered, awakened demon who seems to be powerful beyond measure. The battle is rife with hurdles, but dogged determination and sacrifice allow Teth-Adam and the others to overpower and kill Sabbac.

Sabbac proves a worthy and interesting antagonist for Black Adam, as they are both dark mirrors of Billy Batson's Shazam. The key difference between them is that Black Adam, for all his violent ways, still has the desire to do good. Sabbac, by contrast, is a being of pure evil, who draws his power from demonic forces. The Decu version of Sabbac borrows elements from all three incarnations of the character in the comics but introduces a new wrinkle...

Geoffrey Thorne is very detail-oriented. That helps explain the density of Green Lantern #1, his new book bringing the Green Lantern Corps into the Infinite Frontier era.

“I apologized to Dexter [Soy, one of his creative partners on Green Lantern] and to Tom Raney [his art partner on Future State: Green Lantern],” Thorne tells us in an interview about the new run, “because the first things they had to draw that I wrote had a cast of thousands.” But it works: the new book launches with Lanterns from several corps accompanied by a veritable who’s who of DC’s cosmic stable standing in a smoking pile on Oa.

Thorne comes to the book in a period of great transition; for the Green Lantern Corps, which has to deal with a new intergalactic government for the first time, throwing their role as the galaxy’s self-appointed police force into disarray. For the characters – Keli Quintanela’s Teen Lantern, the 11-year-old with a bootleg (?) Oan power gauntlet...

Chantal Thuy has successfully shapeshifted into a series regular for Season 4 of The CW’s Black Lightning, where she since season 1 has recurred as metahuman Grace Choi.

“Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” showrunner Salim Akil said in a statement. “I am sure our Black Lightning fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. I am elated to finally welcome her officially to the team.”

It’s somehow almost 2021, which means the DC Universe is about to enter its Future State, the big two month crossover that kicks off the new year by pausing its regular line, and diving deep into the wild, varied timelines and parallel universes for new angles from fresh creators. And we are happy to have your exclusive first look at the February covers and solicitations for the Justice League family of books.

Since half the fun of solicits is trying to piece together what’s happening in the book from the 50 words and a cover, we decided to engage in some wild, semi-informed speculation on what might be coming from DC’s event.

The first Black Widow trailer has finally arrived. Marvel recently unveiled the first footage from the highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, which will finally provide Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff with a much-deserved solo movie. And, as we can see in the trailer, Natasha will be getting a few new looks, perhaps most notably a fancy new white suit. But does this particular look carry with it some additional meaning?

Warning: possible spoilers ahead for Black Widow. Granted, this is speculation based on stuff that we see in the trailer, which also includes a first look at Taskmaster along with our first fully realized reveal of David Harbour in the Red Guardian costume. But just in case it turns out to be right, those who want to go into the movie clean should turn back now. That aside, there is at least a chance this new suit hints at the...

With one of Marvel’s first big story arcs to be rolled out next year, Iron Man 2020, still being months away from kicking off, you’d naturally think we’d run out of things to talk about. But instead, it’s proven to be the latest exciting theme for the House of Ideas to run with for a wave of variant covers.

Just yesterday, we showed you some kick-ass redesigns for some of the publisher’s most popular icons, and the fun hasn’t stopped there. After feasting our eyes on some truly sweet looking alternate takes on Spider-Man, Elektra, Black Cat and Doctor Doom, yet another batch has been thrown our way.

Like those presented before, you can expect to find these variants on shelves beginning in December. I think I’m most partial to the Miles Morales and Venom reimaginings in this particular gallery, though you may identify other favorites of your own.

This March is Marvel's Venom variant month, and thanks to Cbr we have a look at the first four covers in the series. New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.

The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. I’ve said before that, despite liking to attend all flavors of fandom and comics conventions, including (clearly) the media guest-focused cons, I really love Baltimore Comic Con because it has stayed so focused on comics and comics creators. I’m happy to report that this has not changed.

I had a great time in Baltimore this year, doing some of the things that make me happiest at comic cons, like walking the exhibit hall and wandering Artist Alley to see what new things old friends are up to, meet folks whose work I know but whom I’ve never chatted with, and flip through the work of creators I haven’t ever encountered before. Amongst the fun things I discovered were this nifty accordion-style comic by Christa Cassano and Dean Haspiel; a gorgeous limited edition coloring book by Charles Vess, whose work I’ve loved for a long time...

In his second arc on Ultimate X-Men, title “Return to Weapon X”, writer Mark Millar decides to not make everything about Wolverine and gives readers an in-depth look at the Ultimate Weapon X program. The Weapon X program in the Ultimate Universe is a blacker than black ops group where Shield uses mutants for deep cover and wetwork missions while experimenting on them and torturing them to make them more docile participants in these attacks, which are often on countries with “illegal genetic” material or technology.
