Twenty years after bringing the story of newsman Edward R. Murrow and his efforts to thwart Sen. Joseph McCarthy and the Red Scare to the screen in Good Night, and Good Luck — a work that earned six Oscar nominations — George Clooney has adapted the film for the Broadway stage. Two decades older now, too, Clooney makes his Broadway debut playing Murrow, who was portrayed in the film by David Strathairn in an Oscar-nominated performance. Tony winner David Cromer takes the reins from Clooney as director, pulling double duty this spring with this massive screen-to-stage adaptation and the much-anticipated new musical Dead Outlaw.

Reviews of Good Night, and Good Luck, which opened on Thursday, April 4 at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and stars an ensemble of 20-plus performers, were decidedly mixed.

We spoke to I, Tonya and Richard Jewell star about his starring role in the film and what it takes to play real life charcater. Paul spoke about his attraction to true stories in film and  emphasised the importance of honoring the story while taking contextual clues from real characters, like Michael Larson, who inspired their role.

The actor also reflected on the balance between research and script adherence, noting a shift towards trusting the script. He also touched on the challenge of portraying the essence of a character without mimicry.

Balatro, the 2024 smash-hit that redefined the roguelike genre and dominated player's playtimes across all platforms, felt like it came out of nowhere. Developed by just one person, LocalThunk, someone who was convinced it wouldn't sell well, Balatro feels like the epitome of why indie games are truly the greatest gift to gaming. However, what few may know is that Balatro was inspired by a similar indie roguelike with gambling themes.

It's not every day that a new, game-changing stealth action concept comes along, but Sleight of Hand could be that game in 2025. Developed and published by RiffRaff Games, a new studio out of Wellington, New Zealand, Sleight of Hand is a third-person stealth game with a unique concept and some ambitious goals.

Sleight of Hand was revealed with a trailer during the Xbox Partner Preview back in March 2024, and is scheduled for release sometime in 2025. It'll be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Its developers are already comparing it to some of the greatest in the genre, and although it's still a ways away, Sleight of Hand is certainly one to watch.

Jakarta-based Magma Entertainment is building a universe around its successful horror film Qodrat, turning it into a trilogy and connecting with ‘The Devil’s Lair’ franchise, it was revealed at the inaugural Jaff Market in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (December 4).

Main star Vino G. Bastian will return to lead Qodrat 2, which will continue to follow title character Qodrat, a spiritual healer searching for his wife, who sold her soul to a demon in a desperate attempt to save their son. New characters are played by Acha Septriasa, Della Dartyan, and Dony Alamsyah.

Leading Indonesian studio Magma Entertainment presented its upcoming slate and premiered new content at the ongoing Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (Jaff) and Jaff Market, marking an expansion across multiple genres from 2025 through 2028.

The company screened nine minutes from “Qodrat 2,” the sequel to its hit 2022 film, with director Charles Gozali, producer Linda Gozali, editor Teguh Raharjo and newly-joined executive producer Dian Sastrowardoyo in attendance at the sold-out Jaff event.

Magma is also world premiering horror film “The Damnation” (“Tumbal Darah”), its first co-production with Wahana Kreator and Sinemaku Pictures, at Jaff. The film stars Martino Lio and Shallum Ratu Ke. Producer Salman Aristo cited Magma’s openness to “authentic stories” and creative freedom in the horror space.

Founded by siblings Charles and Linda Gozali, the children of pioneering Garuda Films producer, the late Hendrick Gozali, Magma was founded in 2003. The slate announcement detailed expansion of the “Qodrat” universe with “Qodrat 3” and “The Devil’s Lair” franchise.

Spellbound is not to be confused with the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock film noir of the same name. Nor is it to be confused with the 2002 spelling bee documentary of the same name. Nor the 2011 South Korean film of the same name about a man whose girlfriend can see ghosts. This is, in fact, the second film from Skydance Animation, the new animation outfit headed by former Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter, who left his previous company after allegations of sexual misconduct. Skydance seems to have deep pockets and grand ambitions of making moves on its competitors: its first film, the 2022 fantasy Luck, seemed to be an attempt to ape Pixar’s formula. This sophomore effort is going for the big guns: it’s the studio’s take on Walt Disney Animation.

The kid’s gonna be fine. It’s the parents who are not all right in “Spellbound,” a straight-to-Netflix computer-animated fairy tale with a smart concept (what’s a girl to do when her home life is shattered?) and its heart in the right place. If only the movie were transparent about its premise from the outset, as opposed to burying the explanation — as a real-world relevant twist — till nearly the end.

The film takes place in the fantasy kingdom of Lumbria, where the royal couple have been cursed. Once a reasonable ruler, King Solon (Javier Bardem) is now a speechless blue beast — albeit the cartoon-cute version of a rhinoceros-size creature, sporting an endearing underbite and an easily distractable, dog-like personality. His wife, Queen Ellsmere (Nicole Kidman), suffers from an equivalent affliction. Gone is the fair-featured matriarch, replaced by a puffy green dragon with flamingo-pink feathers, gold horns and ridiculously small wings.

Singer-rapper Baadshah has revealed a startling revelation: The Oscar-winning music composer apologized to him after initially disliking his rap version of the ‘Humma Humma’ song in the 2017 movie Ok Jaanu.

The album Ok Jaanu was composed by A.R Rahman with lyrics penned by Gulzar. However, director Shaad Ali wanted a remastered version of Rahman’s veteran song, Humma Humm, from the movie Bombay (1995) in Ok Jaane.

Beginning later this month, David Gilmour will play a limited run of shows in the US in support of his new album, Luck and Strange. Marking his first American performances in eight years, the former Pink Floyd member will take the stage for multiple nights at both the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York City. He’ll also play a one-off concert at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

In anticipation, a limited number of tickets for Gilmour’s shows at Madison Square Garden have been released by Ticketmaster. The concerts are set for November 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th.

Indian director Soham Shah has filed a lawsuit against Netflix alleging substantial similarities between his 2009 film “Luck” and the streaming service’s hit series “Squid Game.” In the lawsuit, Shah claims that key elements of the plot, characters, themes, and sequence of events in “Squid Game” too closely resemble those in his earlier film. Both stories reportedly center around impoverished individuals who participate in deadly competitions involving games for substantial cash prizes, with wealthy individuals betting on the outcomes.

Some specifics Shah cites include the depiction of the main characters, the tournament-style competition format involving life-threatening games for money, and the involvement of wealthy spectators gambling on the result. Shah argues these similarities go beyond mere coincidence. He also notes that “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has said he wrote the story as early as 2009, when “Luck” was released internationally on over 1,300 screens and marketed extensively.

However, Netflix denies the plagiarism accusations.

The filmmaker behind a Hindi-language movie called "Luck" is suing Netflix in federal court, alleging that the massively successful show "Squid Game" stole from his own project, which as released back in 2009 (per TMZ and Fortune). In a suit filed in New York on Friday, writer-director Soham Shah claimed that, "The main plot, characters, themes, mood, setting and sequence of events of 'Squid Game' are strikingly similar to that of 'Luck,' defying any likelihood that such similarities could be coincidence."

Shah is suing for unspecified damages, but he's also seeking an injunction in an attempt to stop Netflix from continuing to market and make money from "Squid Game" and related properties, which his suit says continue to infringe upon his rights. While this type of lawsuit is fairly common (and difficult to prove in the plaintiff's favor), it can also be a drawn-out and expensive process for all involved.
