Avis à la une
The vast majority of the jokes fall entirely flat and I think an insanely fast-paced movie with an hour-and-half runtime should have been way more entertaining. The major issue I have with this, though, is that it keeps shifting from one interesting storyline to another, and trying to convince us every time it that this would be the basis of the plot, before almost abandoning them and settling on a rather far less interesting and original plotline to serve its message, which is very problematic.
That said, I did enjoy this. It's so silly, for better or worse, and has a tinge of freshness, extremely eccentric and quirky characters (I think these parents are the creepiest I've seen in any movie) and breezy animation style similar to what Kris Pearn has done in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. But, to be honest, the intrusive meta-narrator cat is the true highlight of the movie.

My 3yo, 5yo, and I adore this film. Several moments that made us laugh hysterically, most of those moments are kind of dark. So if you and your family like twisted humor, give this one a go!
The film isn't bad. The voice-acting, the unique characters, the dark humor, the animation, all make it quite an intriguing story right of the bat. Unfortunately, what starts out as a truly unique tale gives way to a horribly predictable and cliched ending. I truly thought this movie had promise, but once you realize where it's heading it's charm dwindles fast. What starts out as a daring piece of film ultimately loses out by playing it safe.
Why bother watching a new movie on a streaming service instead of going into theaters and besides, the outbreak of the virus is still ongoing. Ouch, hope it goes away soon. Anyway, I watched The Willoughbys today and I've got to say, I am pretty impressed with it. The animation, the characters, the visuals, the humor, the story and the morals are all good. I really like the idea when the Willoughby children hatched a plan to get rid of their awful parents who were always being terrible to their own children and it worked but a fun nanny came around. This is one of the things I like about this movie and also the visuals are really cartoony and yet very colorful to look at and it was very great. I really consider this to be one of the best animated movies (especially best movies in general) out there and Netflix did it again since other previous great animated films like The Little Prince, Next Gen, Klaus, and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. I really recommend anyone to watch this wonderful animated comedy film, it's great. I give The Willoughbys a 9.8/10
Animated families are fun. Even when they are missguided or missinformed. In this case trying to live alone or on their own is the main idea. And the introduction of the characters by none other than cat ... I mean Ricky Gervais is quite the thing. Starts off quite fun I'd say.
This isn't quite Pixar, but it is fun entertainment. For the whole family - that is what animation is for. Decent effort overall

Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesAlessia Cara had a sinus infection when she recorded the demo version of "I Choose," causing her voice to sound hoarse and shaky. She apologized for this before sending it in, but was surprised to find the directors loved it, as in the film, Cara's character sings the song during a snow storm, and would rightfully sound weaker. The demo version Cara was so nervous about ended up being the final version in the film.
- Crédits fousAfter the credits, the cat is seen licking himself clean. He then turns to the camera and tells the audience that it isn't weird because it's just how he cleans.
