Not bad. Mid. Dragon > NEEK in the Valentine release window..

NEEK was....mid. Nothing new, except the new faces. The film looks great, but if you closed your eyes, it sounds (dialogues and music) like a regular lighthearted Dhanush movie. If that's your thing, you'll likely not mind, or even enjoy, this film.

The new cast was OK, nothing great but not bad. I wish them all the best. The highlight of the film, for me, was Mathew Thomas. I have no idea who RSquared is but she was clearly liked very much in the limited time she had on screen, apparently she's popular outside of films too. But that's about it.

The film opens with a stunning looking song with sambandham eh illadha lyrics and music, but OK. The film does get better from there but you can't unhear the formulaic background music you've heard in most of his previous films. Casting Saranya as the leads mom was very reminiscent of VIP. They made her deliver random English dialogues, I believe for some comedic effect, but it didn't work for me. Maybe reminding you of all Dhanush and his previous films was nostalgia baiting or to give Pavish Narayan a young Dhanush image, but for me, if felt like I was watching an older film with new cast, couldn't help it. I tried.

Overall - Dunno if calling NEEK 'a usual love story' was damage control to begin with, but Dragon won the Valentine's Day release window (based on the original schedule)

Feel Good Movie, But expected more from Dhanush as a director!

I loved the movie's stunning visuals and the amazing background score by G. V. Prakash-it really made the film feel extraordinary. However, the story was a real letdown. It felt boring, and many scenes seemed like recycled moments from popular Dhanush films. The hero's dialogue even tried too hard to capture Dhanush's style, coming off as awkward and a bit irritating. The first half was sluggish, and the second half dragged even more. I had high expectations, especially watching it on opening day with a lively crowd, but it just didn't deliver the experience I hoped for. And if you were looking forward to a cameo by Dhanush, you're out of luck. Still, if you're a die-hard Dhanush fan, you might enjoy the numerous references to his iconic scenes. In overall a good feel good movie!

A heart warming entertainer

A very light hearted movie. Unpredictable end but enjoyable. The subtle humour throughout the movie is very relaxing. Everyone performs adequately. The guy who plays the hero's friend Rajesh is outstanding. His face is very flexible and in split seconds he moves from one happy expression to a totally different one. Emote any expression effortlessly. Sarath kumar gives a dignified performance. This is a youth film. Oldtimers may criticize the storyline and the care free life of today's youth. But that's for real. GV Prakash's peppy songs and the BGM adds the feel of the movie. Some of the long shots from the cenimatographer...especially night shots are very pleasing. Altogether a very warm entertainer to spend the evening pleasantly. Thanks to Dhanush..the Director.

Expected Cringe movie Turned out CRINGE MAX

The movie started off well but took a downturn with a poorly executed flashback love story. Director Dhanush attempted to craft a trendy modern romance but ended up delivering a film reminiscent of Sam Anderson's "Yaaruku Yaro" movie. The casting was disappointing, the hero's attempt to mimic Dhanush's VIP acting style felt forced and unsuitable, while heroine Anika, better suited as a child artist, failed to embody the look of a wealthy character and seemed to imitate Nayanthara. As for the story, the script was overly simplistic, resembling the kind of love story a student might write just to fill exam sheets. Dhanush should focus on acting rather than directing because he has the money to do so. It would be best if he stick to running a production company and save Tamil cinema by not directing any movies in future.

Best feel good movie!!

The film feels fresh and engaging, using minimal actors while keeping the narrative tight. Dhanush once again proves why he excels in love genres-his ability to bring raw emotions to the screen never fails to impress. The chemistry, dialogues, and subtle nuances make the romance feel real and relatable. The direction and cinematography complement the mood, enhancing the overall experience. The music adds depth to the emotions, making key moments even more impactful. A well-crafted love story that stays with you even after the credits roll. Please do appreciate such films....we need more like this!!

ABSOLUTE CRINGE FEST AND TERRIBLE ACTING

Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, Dhanush's latest directorial venture, billed as a Gen Z rom-com, is a cinematic trainwreck so excruciatingly bad it's almost fascinating like watching someone trip over the same rock for two hours straight. Released with modest hype thanks to Dhanush's name and a colorful trailer, this film doesn't just disappoint; it actively offends your senses with its terrible acting, incoherent script, and a cringe factor so high it could double as a torture device. If the goal was to capture the spirit of modern youth, *NEEK* instead proves how painfully out of touch its makers are, delivering a bloated, embarrassing mess that's neither funny nor romantic.

The plot, if you can call it that, centers on Prabhu (Pavish Narayan), a mopey chef still reeling from a breakup with Nila (Anikha Surendran). Enter Preethi (Priya Prakash Varrier), a girl his family wants him to marry, and cue a love triangle so lifeless it feels like it was scribbled on a napkin five minutes before shooting began. What follows is a string of contrived misunderstandings, awkward confrontations, and a climax so predictable it's insulting-Prabhu crashes a wedding, there's yelling, and everyone hugs it out. It's the kind of lazy storytelling that makes you wonder if Dhanush lost a bet and had to direct this with his eyes closed. The film's tagline, "A Usual Love Story," is depressingly apt-it's usual in the way stale bread is, offering nothing fresh, nothing clever, just a reheated pile of clichés that collapse under scrutiny.

Let's talk about the acting, because it's the rotting cherry on this rancid cake. Pavish Narayan, making his lead debut, is a disaster. He looks like he wandered onto set by accident and was too shy to leave. His performance is a masterclass in monotony-every line delivered with the same blank stare and flat tone, whether he's confessing love or burning toast. You'd think heartbreak would spark some emotion, but Pavish plays Prabhu like he's reading a grocery list, not living a crisis. Anikha Surendran as Nila is equally abysmal, sleepwalking through her role with all the charisma of a damp sponge. Her attempts at sass or vulnerability fall so flat you'll wonder if she even read the script-or if there was one to begin with. Priya Prakash Varrier, stuck as Preethi, fares no better; her wide-eyed innocence feels forced, and her chemistry with Pavish is so nonexistent it's like they're in different movies. Even Mathew Thomas, playing the comic-relief friend Rajesh, overacts to the point of exhaustion-his shrill delivery and frantic mugging might've worked in small doses, but here it's just noise in an already chaotic mess.

The script is a dumpster fire. Dialogue meant to sound hip and Gen Z-friendly-"Bro, chillax, she's just not that into you"-lands like a middle-aged uncle trying to meme his way into a TikTok trend. It's not quirky; it's humiliating. Scenes drag on with no purpose-like a 10-minute bit where Prabhu gets drunk and rambles about love, only for the camera to linger as if it's profound instead of pathetic. The humor is DOA: a gag about a mistaken phone call goes nowhere, and a "funny" fight at a wedding is so poorly staged it's more sad than slapstick. Dhanush's direction feels phoned-in, with pacing so sluggish you'll check your watch, only to realize there's still an hour left. The visuals-bright colors, slow-mo shots-try to dazzle, but it's lipstick on a pig. G. V. Prakash Kumar's music is the lone semi-bright spot, with a couple of toe-tappers, but they're wasted on scenes so awkward they kill any vibe.

The cringe peaks in moments that aim for heart but hit pure cheese-like Prabhu's teary plea to Nila, which feels less like a rom-com beat and more like a soap opera reject. The film's attempt to reflect Gen Z culture is a caricature, all shallow slang and forced "relatability" that reeks of a boardroom pitch gone wrong. By the time the credits roll, you're not relieved; you're annoyed you sat through it. *Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam* isn't just bad-it's a tedious, poorly acted slog that insults your time and intelligence. Dhanush has done better; this feels like he didn't even try. Avoid it like you'd avoid a drunk ex at a party.

ABSOLUTE DISASTER.

A Misfire in Storytelling: Pavish Narayanan's Underwhelming Debut

Pavish Narayanan's performance in his latest outing leaves much to be desired. His portrayal felt amateurish, lacking the finesse and depth expected of a lead, especially in emotionally charged sequences. The attempt at comedy was poorly timed and often fell flat, while the overall narrative sequencing was disjointed and confusing.

The film attempted to explore an emotional rollercoaster of love through two overlapping triangular relationships. However, instead of enriching the plot, the added complexities felt forced and diluted the emotional impact. The use of an additional catalyst in both relationships not only muddled the storyline but also risked sending the wrong message to the audience.

What's truly disappointing is the underutilization of seasoned talents like Sarath Kumar, Saranya Ponvannan, and even the promising Anikha. Their presence deserved a stronger script and direction. One can't help but imagine how much more compelling the film could have been had Dhanush taken on the lead role himself.

If there's one redeeming element in the film, it's the beautifully composed "Golden Sparrow" track - a rare moment of brilliance in an otherwise forgettable experience.

In the end, the film unfortunately feels like a squandered opportunity - a letdown that neither justifies its star cast nor rewards the viewer's time.

GENZ LOVE - Yet not interesting

Overview The film was marketed as a typical love story, and that's exactly what it delivers-nothing more, nothing less. The core idea of the film didn't work for me, and the writing had nothing fresh or engaging to offer. The tagline, "Jolly ya vantu, Jolly ya Poga," sums it up perfectly: there's nothing to expect, nothing to take away-just an average love story with great music and occasional comedy.

Story & Writing The film follows a familiar romantic arc without any standout moments. The screenplay lacks depth, and emotional scenes don't land as intended. With no new elements to elevate the narrative, it feels like just another love story that fails to leave an impact.

Performance & Acting The male lead's performance is reminiscent of Dhanush's older films like VIP and Thangamagam, making it feel repetitive rather than refreshing. Moreover, the film doesn't provide much scope for strong performances. The emotional scenes, which could have been highlights, fall flat due to weak dubbing and unconvincing acting.

Technical Aspects While the film underwhelms in its storytelling, it does shine in a few technical areas:

Music: GV Prakash and Dhanush deliver an impressive soundtrack that elevates the film's mood.

Cinematography: Leon Britto's lighting and cinematography add visual appeal, making the film pleasant to watch.

Final Verdict This film might work for those who simply want to pass the time at the theater without expecting anything special. However, if you're looking for a fresh love story with strong performances and writing, this one may not be for you.

A complete waste of time. Skip it.

Watched NEEK on OTT after a friend's suggestion, and I honestly regret the decision. The movie is a cringefest from start to finish. The casting is horrendous (with the sole exception of the actor playing the friend), and the acting is painfully subpar.

Dhanush, known for his strong directorial and acting skills, completely drops the ball here. The story is stale, predictable, and irrational, offering nothing new. It's disappointing to see a talent like Dhanush waste his potential on such a project. And seriously-how many more times do we need to see Sarath Kumar dying of cancer on screen? It's getting repetitive.

Pavish, the lead, struggles to carry the film. It feels like Dhanush tried to imprint his own acting style onto him, but it just doesn't work. He comes off as bland and forgettable. Matthew, however, stands out as the only saving grace with a relatively decent performance.

The dialogues are awkward and cringe-worthy, the screenplay is weak, and overall, the movie feels like an amateur experiment gone wrong. Watching it on OTT was bad enough-I can't imagine sitting through it in a theater.

Verdict: A complete waste of time. Skip it.

Really love this movie a lot...

I watched this movie and I really loved it a lot... I was laughing completely with my friends... This is not an ordinary movie, it's really funny and it's focused on friendship and love... Didn't get bored anywhere in between the movie... I could see lots of refference of the director's (Director Dhanush's) previous movies... I couldn't believe I laughed like I've never laughed in the past few months... I really love this movie and I'll recommend this movie to all those who love someone and couldn't confess it in a proper way... I must admit that I've never seen a movie like this, soo romantic and humerus and friendship based in these past few years... Loved the direction, loved the actors, screenplay and the work...

Good light hearted entertainer

The bromance between the 2 main characters Mathew & Prabhu stands out in this movie.

It is a fun lighthearted movie with feel good vibes, if you love such movies this is your cup of tea. The whole movie is filled with light hearted jokes which makes you laugh. The acting is very good and on point especially of Mathey Thomas.

The ending of the movie could have been improved and there was no requriement for a part 2. But maybe part 2 can be fun filled as all the essential elements are there.

If ou are looking for a good light hearted movie, where you can grab a beer and have a laugh or 2 with your friends and loved ones, this is your cup of tea.

Loved the movie, don't see ratings just go for it

Movie Review: A Must-Watch Feel-Good Film That Transcends Ratings

In the era of instant opinions and online reviews, it's easy to get influenced by ratings before watching a movie. Sometimes, we rely too much on numbers and forget that cinema is a personal experience. I was initially hesitant about watching this film because of its mixed ratings. However, after coming across some captivating reels and short clips, I couldn't resist. And I must say, I'm so glad I trusted my instincts! This movie is a true gem-heartwarming, engaging, and filled with emotions that leave a lasting impact.

Did you all really watch the movie??!!

I went into the movie without any expectations, completely ignoring the reviews, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. The humor was spot on, the chemistry between the leads was engaging, and the storytelling kept me entertained throughout. It had the perfect balance of romance and comedy, making it one of the best current-gen rom-coms I've seen in a while. I genuinely hope D decides to make a second part because this world and these characters deserve more screen time.

Negatives: Female lead could have done better in her performance a bit better. 15mins of Run time could have reduced......
