The Body in the Library: 1

I can see why Joan Hickson is considered the definitive Miss Marple-she looks and speaks just as I picture her when reading her stories! The three episodes comprising this first tale stick to the source material, for the most part, and the pacing is deft enough to keep the story from dragging. The cast is superlative (including an appearance from Trudie Styler, aka Mrs. Sting!) In fact, the only quibble I have is the music-the soundtrack is a bit too....whimsical for me, which is distracting when there's nothing funny going on, and there are several instances where a sudden explosive crescendo tells us in a very overly theatrical way that Something Terrible Has Happened, which is unnecessary as this is TV, not radio. But that's a minor issue, well worth putting up with to see Joan Hickson in one of her most definitive rôles! Overall opinion is-well done!
