Avis à la une
A pale imitation of its predecessor.
'Clarence' is probably exactly how you'd imagine a sequel/spin-off to 1946's 'It's a Wonderful Life'. It's charm is completely lost, and while it does have some heart it fails to make an noteworthy impact.
Robert Carradine is, at least, passable with his performance as the titular character. He is fine. Kate Trotter is the 'best' of the rest. The plot is practically the same, though is obviously shrunk to fit into the requirements of a television film. It's less of a journey, for sure.
Ultimately, this is extremely pointless. It, admittedly, isn't awful though.

I remember when this was first on the Family Channel around 10 years ago. Robert Carradine, of the Revenge of the Nerds fame and of course, 10 years later LIZZIE MAGUIRE, plays Clarence Oddbody in this cute "sequel" to IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. Now, it's almost impossible to make a sequel to a timeless film such as IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. They tried it with GONE WITH THE WIND and failed miserably. I normally hate sequels. I didn't mind this, because I thought that CLARENCE was a clever idea. Taking the bumbling angel, who saves George Bailey's life, and putting him in another adventure is cute. Robert Carradine gives a nice performance as the innocent angel. Unfortunately, the rest of the actors are weak. The actress playing the single mother, who Clarence has come to help, is a talented Canadian stage actress, but is too serious and tragic in her role! Come on, this is CLARENCE not MACBETH! The video games in the film are pathetic. Video games weren't that bad in 1990. But still, it's wholesome fun. It'll entertain the kids. Enjoy.
In a tale not-so-great as "It's a Wonderful Life" by any means, but still a decent family story...
Robert Carradine ("Revenge of the Nerds") stars as Clarence, the angel from "It's A...Life," only this time, he has wings. And as we are all supposed to know, angels of course get YOUNGER as they get older... (nice way to get a younger actor)
Filled with a few laughs, a pretty good actor, and a few other tidbits, Clarence will delight kids for sure. Maybe even adults. 2.5/5 stars-

There is hardly anything bad enough that I can say about this movie. Not only does it not have a scintilla of the spirit of It's a Wonderful Life, a truly wonderful movie to which it is supposed to be a sequel, but it has all of the required elements for a badly made movie: bad acting, bad plot--and I could go into more detail, but I would rather spare you that. Add this to very implausible story twists and glaring discrepancies of reason, and you have a painful result that will get you nearly pulling your hair out in frustration and declaring that it should never have been made into a movie at all. I'm sorry to sound like such a bad sport when normally I go all out for the values this movie is supposed to contain, but I have to be honest. Consider yourself warned.
Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesClarence's young appearance in this film (as opposed to the elderly Clarence originally portrayed by Henry Travers) is explained by establishing that angels get younger as time goes by (which is why Joseph, although several millennia older than Clarence, appears to be a young teenager).
- GaffesA factor in the story line that allowed Clarence to be portrayed by a young actor was that angels get younger as time goes by. This could not be possible as, within the Christian faith, God and the angels exist outside of time.
- ConnexionsSpin-off from La vie est belle (1946)
