Maisie Williams reflected on the dark side of child stardom this week, saying she struggled to parse her own identity from that of her Game of Thrones character.

Williams shot to fame at age 12 following her casting as Arya Stark in HBO’s beloved fantasy series, which ran for the duration of her teenage years from 2011 to 2019. The result, she told The Sunday Times, was a difficult journey to feeling “comfortable in my own skin.”

“I was so lost for so long and I knew that I was, and when I couldn’t pin down what I felt my identity was within that, it brought me a lot of discomfort,” she said. “It’s hard to even put myself back there and talk about how tough it was just because I think it’s done.”
