'We Were Very Much Hoping to Find a New Home': Max Series Officially Dead After 3 Seasons
Image
School's out for good for The Sex Lives of College Girls. Warner Bros Television Group CEO Channing Dungey recently revealed that the acclaimed teen comedy series had failed to find a new home in the month following its cancelation on Max.

The disappointing renewal update was shared during a wide-ranging interview with Deadline, who asked Dungey if she could see The Sex Lives of College Girls make the jump to Netflix, similar to how The Sandman spinoff Dead Boy Detectives moved from Max to Netflix during its production. "I don’t think so. We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing, because it’s a show that we really love," Dungey stated. "I’m so proud of the three seasons that we did at Max but I don’t...

Sex Lives of College Girls Fails to Find New Home After Max Cancellation
Image
Classes and hookups will not resume on The Sex Lives of College Girls, which has failed to secure a new home after it was cancelled by Max in March.

“We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing, because it’s a show that we really love,” Warner Bros. TV Group Chairman Channing Dungey told our sister site Deadline. “I’m so proud of the three seasons that we did at Max, but I don’t think there’s going...

'The Sex Lives of College Girls' Won't Be Coming Back After Shock Cancellation
Image
It’s an abstinence-only ending for The Sex Lives of College Girls, after efforts to resurrect the canceled Max series have proved futile. Back in March, the network told the comedy drama to get off (not in a good way), axing it after a three-season run. Since then, Warner Bros. Television, the folks behind the project, started working hard to secure another set of episodes that would carry on the story of the young group of friends. Unfortunately, the Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble co-created title just can’t seem to seal the deal with any other prospective buyers, making this the end of the road.

In a statement released with the heartbreaking announcement, Channing Dungey, Warner Bros. TV Group chairman told Deadline,

“We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing,...

‘The Sex Lives Of College Girls’ Officially Dead After Efforts To Find New Home Didn’t Pan Out
Image
It’s the end of the road for The Sex Lives Of College Girls. Following the ensemble comedy’s recent cancellation by Max after three seasons, producing studio Warner Bros. Television shopped it around. But its attempts to find a new home for the series, co-created and executive produced by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, were unsuccessful.

“We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing, because it’s a show that we really love,”Warner Bros. TV Group chairman Channing Dungey told Deadline in an expansive interview. “I’m so proud of the three seasons that we did at Max but I don’t think there’s going to be more of College Girls.”

As Deadline reported at the time of Max’s cancellation last month, Wbtv was believed...

‘Sex Lives Of College Girls’ Creators Mindy Kaling & Justin Noble React To Max Cancellation: “We Are Living In An Era Where We Need Comedy Badly”
Image
After three seasons on Max, the streamer has opted not to renew The Sex Lives of College Girls for a fourth season.

Following news of the show’s cancellation, co-creators Justin Noble and Mindy Kaling have taken to social media to honor the series.

Noble shared an Instagram post in which he said there are “discussions with some new potential homes for the show,” adding, “But regardless of what happens, I’m proud of this show and the work that so many incredibly talented people put into it.”

The showrunner said this was “not the outcome that I saw coming,” noting the series was “listed as the most watched or second most watched scripted show on the entire platform, for about 70 straight days.”

“I can’t help but mention that it feels like there are fewer and fewer comedy series every month — and we are living in an era where we need that comedy badly,...

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Canceled After Three Seasons
Image
The Sex Lives of College Girls is shuttering its school doors at Max after three seasons on the streamer. Max will not be producing additional episodes of the coming of age drama, co-created and produced by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble.

Despite the show’s cancellation on Max, announced Tuesday, Warner Bros. Television is looking to keep the show alive on neighboring streamers. Kaling, for example, has a working relationship with Netflix. She co-created the Kate Hudson-starring series Running Point, released on Netflix last month, and the popular drama Never Have I Ever.

Renee Rapp, who played Leighton Murray, departed The Sex Lives of College Girls during season 3. This is believed to have impacted the show’s drop in viewership and critical response, potentially attributing to Max’s decision to cancel.

The series premiered on Max in 2021, and the season 3 finale aired in January 2025. It also stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers.

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Canceled After Three Seasons at Max
Image
The Sex Lives of College Girls has been canceled after three seasons at Max, but production company Warner Bros. Television is exploring finding a new home for the series, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The Mindy Kaling co-created coming-of-age comedy’s most recent season wrapped in January and saw the departure of original castmember Reneé Rapp, who left two episodes into the latest run.

Sex Lives ran a mostly cliffhanger-free third-season finale leading some viewers to wonder if this was the end of the show, even though the characters were only midway through their sophomore year and the series was pretty consistently near the top of Max’s top 10 list of most-viewed shows (though that didn’t translate to making Nielsen’s wider top 10 streaming charts).

Co-showrunner Justin Noble, who oversaw the show with Kaling, insisted at the time that the episode wasn’t meant to wrap up the series.

‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Canceled After Three Seasons at Max
Image
“Sex Lives of College Girls” has been canceled at Max, Variety has confirmed.

The series aired for three seasons at the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service. Season 3 of the show debuted in November, with the season finale airing on Jan. 25. The show itself originally premiered on Max in 2021.

Mindy Kaling co-created the series with Justin Noble under her overall deal with studio Warner Bros. Television. Per the official logline, it “follows a group of college students at New England’s prestigious Essex College.”

Reps for Wbtv declined to comment, but according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the studio is currently shopping the show to other outlets.

The cast for Season 3 included Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers. Reneé Rapp was a series regular for the first two seasons, but only recurred in Season 3 and...

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Done At Max After 3 Seasons, Exploring New Home For Season 4
Image
Exclusive: Essex College is closing its doors at Max as the streamer has canceled The Sex Lives Of College Girls after three seasons. But all is not lost for the ensemble comedy co-created and executive produced by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. I hear producing studio Warner Bros. Television has been looking for ways to keep the show going, with Netflix, where Kaling has a longstanding relationship, believed to be a long-shot new home prospect given the complexities of a potential move. A rep for Wbtv declined comment.

It’s been almost two months since Season 3 of The Sex Lives Of College Girls ended its run on Max. The writing had been on the wall — possibly impacted by the departure of original cast member Reneé Rapp a few episodes in, the comedy’s third season could not match the critical and fan response as well as the viewership of the first two,...

The semester's almost over! When to watch The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 finale
Image
It's almost time for our favorite college girls to sign off for the semester! The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 found the gang back for their sophomore year at Essex College, but major changes were afoot for the girls. Unexpected and bittersweet changes, but changes nonetheless!

Unfortunately, after the first two episodes of the season, Reneé Rapp departed The Sex Lives of College Girls as her fan-favorite character Leighton Murray. Rapp left the hit Max series to focus more on her growing music career, leaving a room open in the gang's suite, which was later filled by newcomer Gracie Lawrence as Kacey. Mia Rodgers also joined the main cast as Taylor.

After a season full of ups and downs (more downs than ups depending on which fan you might ask), The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 will soon be ending with its highly anticipated season finale. When does...

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Doesn’t Know What To Do With Whitney
Image
Season 3 of The Sex Lives of College Girls has seen some big changes, from Reneé Rapp's departure to the introduction of two new characters in Kacey (Gracie Lawrence) and Taylor (Mia Rodgers). But as a result of these changes, Whitney's (Alyah Chanelle Scott) character has slipped through the cracks, and with just two episodes remaining, the show still has no idea what to do with her character. Both Bela (Amrit Kaur) and Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) have more clearly defined arcs in Season 3, but Whitney's is all over the place, introducing new conflicts that are either quickly resolved or abandoned completely. In Season 3, the time The Sex Lives of College Girls spends fleshing out its new characters comes at the expense of Whitney’s development and speaks to a larger problem with the series’ lack of cohesion and connectivity to the previous seasons.

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Stars Break Down That Parents Weekend Dinner Nightmare
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Sex Lives of College Girls, Season 3, Episode 5, “Parents Weekend 2.”] The Sex Lives of College Girls hosted its second parents weekend at Essex, bringing the families of Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Bela (Amrit Kaur), and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) together again with some fresh faces in the mix. While Whitney’s mom Carol (Nicole Sullivan) was able to make it, her dad was missing this time around, whereas LeRoy McClain entered the scene as Whitney’s dad with her mom bowing out of this parents’ weekend dinner. Bela’s parents were present as they were for the last gathering, and newbies Kacey (Gracie Lawrence) and Taylor (Mia Rodgers) tagged along with Kacey’s mom (played by guest star Missi Pyle). The night was filled with obstacles, though, as Bela lied to Arvind (Nabeel Muscatwalla) about her parents being in town, making for an awkward run-in at the restaurant. Meanwhile, Whitney discovered that her dad ...

Why Renee Rapp Is Leaving ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’
Image
Two years since the Season 2 finale, The Sex Lives of College Girls is finally back for Season 3. Everything appears normal at first as the four main characters find themselves reunited and start their sophomore year of college. Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) have made amends after not speaking to each other for a whole summer after Kimberly was caught lying to Whitney about kissing her ex. Bela (Amrit Kaur) has found herself looking for a new purpose and takes on the role of residence director for the freshman dorm after finding out she doesn't have the credits to transfer. Finally, there is Leighton (Reneé Rapp), who has found herself continuing with her relationship with Alicia (Midori Francis).

However, fans should expect a change, as in 2023, it was confirmed that Rapp would be leaving The Sex Lives of College Girls in Season 3. While fans have had over a...

‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Star Mia Rodgers Breaks Down Taylor’s ‘Powerful’ Confession, Teases Roller Coaster to Come
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3, Episode 2.

“The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3 introduces Mia Rodgers as Taylor, an edgy freshmen international student who becomes a headache for Bela (Amrit Kaur), though her tough exterior quickly fades by the end of Episode 2.

After getting off to a rough start with Bela, her Freshman Advisor and Friend (Faf), Taylor shows Bela a new side of herself when she’s taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. Just as Bela begins to reprimand her, Taylor admits she needs help, and that she relapsed after being sober for a year — a raw and “powerful” confession that Rodgers said was facilitated by the set’s “safe space” and her “compassionate” acting partner.

“Having [Amrit] there to hold me through that was really special and allowed for Taylor to speak her truth and to let her walls down and realize,...

Reneé Rapp’s ‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Exit Explained by Showrunner
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3, Episode 2.

It’s the end of the road for Reneé Rapp’s Leighton Murray on “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”

News broke in 2023 that Rapp would be stepping down as a series regular in the Max series as she focuses on her music, and her departure was wrapped up in a two-episode arc at the start of Season 3.

After the Season 3 premiere saw Leighton commuting to an advanced math program at a not-so-nearby college, she gets word in Episode 2 that MIT is willing to admit her as a transfer student — the very next week. It turns out the location is pretty convenient as Leighton’s girlfriend Alicia (Midori Francis) told her in Episode 1 she would be leaving Essex to work for the mayor of Boston, and the pair agreed to stay together.

Showrunner Justin Noble,...

‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Is Back: Newcomer Mia Rodgers on Working With “God” (Mindy Kaling), Reneé Rapp’s Absence
Image
Rejoice, The Sex Lives of College Girls fans: The students are back at Essex College for another season of female debauchery.

After a two-year wait, Amrit Kaur, Pauline Chalamet, Reneé Rapp and Alyah Chanelle Scott have returned as the chaotic-yet-loveable girl squad Bela, Kimberly, Leighton and Whitney, respectively, in season three of HBO Max’s hit sitcom, created by comedy boss Mindy Kaling and showrunner Justin Noble.

Fans may have begun to wonder when they would ever see the four reunited and back where they belong (causing mayhem at a bizarrely-themed frat party, perhaps?), but from Thursday, Nov. 21 onwards, an episode of the latest installment is dropping every week on Max.

The show left off last season with the group finishing up their freshman year, though the loose ends were nowhere near tied up. Whitney catches Kimberly’s kiss with Canaan, unbeknownst to the pair, and she swiftly reneges her decision to room with Kimberly.

‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Season 3 Trailer Sees Suitemates Set to “Step Up Our Game”
Image
The suitemates in Max’s Sex Lives of College Girls are working hard and playing harder in the trailer for the show’s third season, out in November.

The latest look at the upcoming set of episodes in the Mindy Kaling- and Justin Noble-created coming-of-age series features numerous clips of exiting actress Reneé Rapp‘s Leighton alongside her roommates Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Bela (Amrit Kaur) and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott).

But as Rapp is set to leave the series this season, appearing in a few episodes as a recurring guest star to set up Leighton’s departure from the show’s fictional Essex College, the remaining three main characters are also shown dealing with academic challenges.

Bela is seemingly recommitted to Essex after saying she wanted to transfer schools at the end of season two saying, “This is sophomore year. We’ve got to step up our game.

Essex College just lost one more student.

“‘College Girls’ moved me out to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people,” Rapp wrote on social media. “Two and a half years later, it’s given me y’all and this community. Thank you Mindy, Justin, and everyone at Max for believing in me. A lot of queer work gets belittled, but playing Leighton has changed my life.”

Rapp continued, “I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her.
