“There’s a Real Central Focus on Roddy”: ‘Slow Horses’ Star Teases a Big Season 5 for His Character
Image
Slow Horses is undoubtedly one of Apple TV+'s flagship shows, joining the likes of Silo, Severance, and more in establishing a strong core group of beloved shows on the streamer. The upcoming fifth season of the show, following on from the perfect fourth, has already had its release window of this summer confirmed alongside some other clues as to what fans can expect, but the rumor mill hasn't stopped turning with regard to finer plot and character details since the October 2024 finale of Season 4.

Thankfully, thanks to a quote posted to their official X account, Radio Times have sat down with star Christopher Chung, who has teased what fans can expect from his character Roddy in the upcoming fifth season. "There’s a real central focus on Roddy," Chung admits, hinting that the fifth season might be his biggest yet. He then adds that Roddy "does something to set...

“Berlin Noir”: Apple Lands Next Big TV Adaptation With Bernie Gunther Prequel Series From ‘Conclave’ Writer Peter Straughan, Bad Wolf & Tom Hanks’ Playtone
Image
Exclusive: Bernie Gunther is heading to the small screen.

Apple TV+ has greenlit a long-gestating TV adaptation of the late Philip Kerr’s popular Berlin Noir books from Oscar-winning Conclave writer Peter Straughan, Doctor Who producer Bad Wolf, and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone.

The untitled drama is based on Kerr’s final book Metropolis, which told the iconic detective’s origin story. Set in 1928, Metropolis follows newly promoted police officer Gunther in the intimidating elite Berlin Murder Squad, investigating what seems to be a serial killer targeting victims on the fringes of society. Gunther’s Berlin is described as a “city of unprecedented freedom and dizzying turbulence, the Nazis a distant nightmare waiting in the wings.”

We are told Apple is kicking off with Gunther’s origin story but there is scope to adapt more Berlin Noir books via the studio’s option. Gunther was made famous...

Edited Harry Potter Scene With Daniel Radcliffe Kills The Sirius Black, Gary Oldman With Laughter
Image
There are actors and then there’s Gary Oldman, a one-of-a-kind performer who doesn’t play around with his roles as he disappears into them. Whether it be Count Dracula or Winston Churchill, Oldman doesn’t miss!

He’s known for perfecting dialects and mannerisms and undergoing full-body transformations to play a character. The man is a chameleon and a master of his art, but there’s something simple and universally funny that once brought tears to his eyes out of laughter — fart jokes.

Harry Potter’s Sirius Black scene that made Gary Oldman cry-laugh Gary Oldman as Sirius Black in the Order of the Phoenix | Warner Bros.

Gary Oldman appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in March 2025, and he seemed in good spirits, until the host put him in a full-blown belly-laugh mode. Colbert, who’s known for tinkering around and making things funny, created a segment...

Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce: Here is every ‘Slow Horses’ Emmy acting submission for Season 4
Image
Slow Horses is saddled up and ready to get back in the Emmys race.

Gold Derby has confirmed that the Apple TV+ drama is submitting nine different actors for its fourth season.

Gary Oldman, who plays the unkempt, flatulent head of the Slough House, Jackson Lamb, will be submitted in Best Drama Actor. The Oscar winner (Darkest Hour) was nominated in this category last year for Season 3 and earned one prior Emmy bid in 2001 for his guest appearance on Friends.

Two more past nominees will be submitted in the Best Drama Supporting Actor category: Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, a former M15 agent exiled to the Slough House; and Jonathan Pryce — who competed in the guest category last year — as David Cartwright, a retired M15 officer and River's grandfather. They'll be joined on the ballot by Christopher Chung as computer whiz Roddy Ho and Kadiff Kirwan as the dearly departed Marcus Longridge.

“There’s A Story Here…”: Gary Oldman Reveals How Slow Horses Happened, And It All Started With Everything He Was Tired Of Doing As An Actor
Image
Slow Horses star Gary Oldman explains how he ended up in the hit series, and it involved wanting a change from some of his movie roles. Based on the book series by Mick Herron, the Apple TV+ espionage show premiered in 2022, chronicling the misadventures of a team of misfit MI5 agents. Oldman leads the Slow Horses cast as Jackson Lamb, the head of the Slough House division who is known for the unique combination of a slovenly demeanor and appearance combined with the sharp tactical mind of a veteran spy.

During a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Oldman tells the story of how Slow Horses "fell from the sky" and proved to be everything he wanted in a role. After Colbert pointed out the similarities between Oldman's and Lamb's speaking voices, the actor explains that not having to do an accent was part of what drew...

Gary Oldman Cries Laughing as Colbert Inserts Fart Sounds Into Scenes With His Famous Characters | Video
Image
Gary Oldman couldn’t contain his laughter when Stephen Colbert showed him clips of his most famous movies enhanced with “that Jackson Lamb quality” — uncontrolled flatulence, a reference to Oldman’s slovenly spy on “Slow Horses.”

The clips included Oldman apparently passing gas as he welcomes Keanu Reeves to his castle in “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” as he speaks to Daniel Radcliffe in one of the “Harry Potter” movies and more.

Oldman exclaimed, “That’s really a hoot!” when one cleverly edited scene from “Darkest Hour” shows a supporting actor looking askance at Oldman’s Winston Churchill as he apparently lets one rip. “That’s fantastic!” he said.

After the last clip, which now has his villain from “Air Force One” farting as Harrison Ford punches him and says, “Get off my plane,” Oldman was in tears from laughing so hard.

Apple TV+ & Ridley Scott's New Crime Series Debuts With Strong Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead Of Release
Image
Ridley Scott is a visionary director known for his striking and meticulously crafted films across numerous genres. While he’s widely recognized for sci-fi spectacles like Alien and Blade Runner, and historical epics like Gladiator, he's had a notable action-packed dip into cinematic crime. Scott's crime dramas often focus on tense power struggles, moral dilemmas, and the high-stakes world of illegal enterprises. His 2007 film American Gangster was nominated for two Oscars for its gripping biographical drama of Frank Lucas, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.

The award-winning director also helmed The Counselor, a neo-noir crime thriller written by Cormac McCarthy, which explored the consequences of greed in the Mexican drug trade. Black Rain brought Scott’s stylish visuals to a Yakuza crime story set in Japan, while Body of Lies followed high-octane espionage in the Middle East with a tense, politically charged thriller. Way too early Emmy odds: ‘Severance’ takes the lead in Best Drama Series
Image
Are the outies at the Emmys ready to show Severance some major love after its three-year absence?

Apple TV+'s buzzy sci-fi series currently claims the No. 1 position in Gold Derby's Best Drama Series Emmy odds. Season 2 has been airing since mid-January, with a finale date scheduled for March 21. In 2022, the first season of Severance nabbed 14 total nominations and won two Emmys for main title design and music composition, but it fell short of the top prize. Will it expand the haul this year?

Created by Dan Erickson, Severance follows a group of characters played by Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Zach Cherry as workers at the sinister Lumon Industries who agree to separate their workplace memories from their external memories. This weekend at the Severance panel at SXSW, director-executive producer Ben Stiller said, "It's been fun to watch how the audiences have gone beyond the concept … and...

Gary Oldman and Tim Roth Are Comedy Gold in This Sharp, Hilarious Take on One of Shakespeare's Most Tragic Plays
Image
Gary Oldman's performance as Jackson Lamb in Slow Horses lit up the screen this fall and even garnered him a Golden Globe nomination. Time and time again, Oldman proves that he is a great dramatic actor. But one of his lesser-known and underrated roles was playing Rosencrantz in the 1990 comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, opposite the equally legendary Tim Roth as Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is a hilariously witty film that mixes buddy comedies, Shakespeare and absurdity together into a creation entirely its own, and if you haven't seen it already, you need to.

‘Slow Horses’ Star Gary Oldman Recruited by Real Spy Agency MI5 — to Narrate Christmas Poem
Image
Gary Oldman, who stars as grumpy yet gifted spy boss Jackson Lamb in Apple TV+ hit “Slow Horses,” has been recruited by the real MI5 – to narrate a Christmas poem.

In collaboration with the streaming platform, the British counter-intelligence agency have published a festive video on their Instagram page featuring Oscar-winner Oldman narrating a contemporary twist on the poem “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Titled “A Christmas Story from MI5,” the video shows various agents at their computers at the spy agency’s London headquarters Thames House while Oldman narrates in the voice of his “Slow Horses” character Jackson Lamb.

“’Twas the night before Christmas when all through Thames House not a creature was stirring, just the click of a mouse,” he intones. “Then footsteps on stairwells, then flickering screens, the clackety keyboards of a hundred machines. The hustle, the bustle, the hive of activity, not the typical scene of your Christmas nativity.

While fans of the show are waiting for Season 5 to drop, now is the perfect time to check out another international spy ensemble.

Slow Horses Season 4's New Star Confirms Character's Return In Season 6
Image
Hugo Weaving is officially returning to Slow Horses for season 6, reprising his role as the sinister Frank Harkness. The hit Apple TV+ espionage drama, based on Mick Herrons Slough House novels, follows the exploits of outcast agents, relegated to Slough House under the leadership of the abrasive Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). Season 4 introduced Weavings Frank Harkness, a former CIA operative, whose child soldier scheme and connection to River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) added another complex issue to the show's already tense narrative. Though Slow Horses season 5 has yet to air, season 6 has already been confirmed.

According to Variety, Weaving confirmed his character's return in Slow Horses' season 6, revealing exciting prospects for the upcoming seasons. At the end of season 4, River is revealed to be one of Frank's sons, a child spared from Frank's efforts to rear young boys into obedient killing machines. Here's what Weaving had to say about the series' upcoming installment,...

Hugo Weaving Will Return to 'Slow Horses' in Season 5
Image
Who doesn't enjoy watching a good actor absolutely chew through the scenery as a big baddie? That's at least part of the appeal of Hugo Weaving's diabolically evil character in Slow Horses. The acclaimed Australian actor first showed up in the Apple TV+ series in season four and changed the game for the at-times dysfunctional MI5 agents and it looks like his character, Frank Harkness, is going to return in the already-confirmed fifth season of the Gary Oldman-starring series.

While speaking at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, according to Variety, Weaving confirmed that Harkness will be back, explaining that he will head to London in January for a two and a half month shoot. Whether that includes an appearance in the also-confirmed sixth season remains to be seen.

Slow Horses has been an immense hit for the streaming service. The show follows the idiosyncratic team...

10 TV Shows On Apple TV+ With A-List Actors
Image
Over the past few years, Apple TV+ has been attracting a host of A-list actors to their original shows, many of whom rarely work in TV. Apple TV+ has never had as many subscribers as other big streaming platforms, but it's consistently delivering some of the most entertaining shows on TV. One of its main strengths is that it consistently attaches big names to its shows, and these actors have elevated their shows.

Actors like Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett are bona fide movie stars, but they have all starred in their own Apple TV+ shows. While this isn't exactly unheard of, it's remarkable that there are so many Apple TV+ shows with A-list stars. This is one way that the streaming platform has managed to differentiate itself from the competition, and it has produced some unforgettable performances.

Bring Back the Grit: Why TV Needs Heroes Who Aren’t Afraid to Get Their Hands Dirty
Image
In today’s squeaky-clean TV landscape, we’re missing something crucial — heroes who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

Where are the gritty, unapologetically flawed characters who dive headfirst into chaos and make the tough calls when nobody else will?

I’m talking about those raw, real, and relentless types who don’t need permission to cross the line if it means getting the job done.

(Fox/Screenshot)

Think 24’s Jack Bauer or Arrow’s Oliver Queen — heroes who put everything on the line, even their own souls, for a cause they believed in.

The Classic Grit of Jack Bauer and Oliver Queen

When 24 hit the screen in 2001, Jack Bauer wasn’t just a hero; he was the guy we wanted on our side, the man who could save the world against impossible odds.

Watching Jack in action was a thrill because he meant every word when he said,...

Breaking Baz: Gary Oldman, ‘Slow Horses’ Star & Oscar Winner, Will Return To British Stage After 4-Decade Absence In 2025
Image
Exclusive: Slow Horses star Gary Oldman is stepping back on stage in April 2025 for the first time after an absence of nearly four decades to star in Samuel Beckett’s celebrated one-man play Krapp’s Last Tape for a limited season at the British theatre where the actor began his professional career in 1979.

Oldman, who won an Oscar for Darkest Hour, is in London shooting season 6 of the acclaimed Apple TV+ spy drama Slow Horses. He will play Beckett’s famous old-timer, struggling to listen to a tape he recorded 39 years ago, at York Theatre Royal in North Yorkshire from April 14 through May 17.

There are no plans to transfer the production to London’s West End or Broadway, Douglas Urbanski, the actor’s longtime business partner and manager, told me when I tracked him down in the early hours of Wednesday in London.

In performing Beckett’s 1958 classic, Oldman retraces...

10 Thrilling CIA TV Shows Like The Old Man, Ranked
Image
When it first hit FX, practically everyone was under the impression that The Old Man was going to be a one-and-done prestige limited series. By the end of those first seven episodes, however, it had become clear that The Old Man was packing enough espionage chills and thrills to sustain at least one more season, if not a number of them. Whether it will eventually live up to the sterling reputation of some of the best CIA and spy-based television series remains to be seen.

Over the past few years, the espionage genre has seen an influx of memorable series, all of which deal with the CIA, FBI, MI5, assassins, terrorists, double-crosses, triple-crosses, and everything else in between in some combination or form. There are plenty of great series to watch next once fans finish Season 2 of The Old Man.

‘Slow Horses’ set to become Apple TV+’s longest-tenured show with Season 6 renewal
Image
“Slow Horses” is Apple TV+’s Clydesdale. The streaming service has given the Gary Oldman-led spy drama an early Season 6 renewal, which means the reliable workhorse of a show is likely to become Apple TV+’s first series to run for more than five seasons. The announcement comes just after the conclusion of Season 4 on October 9. Apple announced the Season 5 pickup back in January.

Technically, “For All Mankind,” one of Apple TV+’s launch titles in 2019, has been running for longer than “Slow Horses,” which premiered in 2022. Both shows have released four seasons, and “For All Mankind’s” fifth (and a spinoff) is in the works. But “Slow Horses” is an anomaly in the streaming industry because it moves really fast. Previous seasons of “Slow Horses” have shot back-to-back, which reduces the amount of time the show takes between seasons. Two six-episode seasons were released in 2022, and the show...

Gary Oldman's Slow Horses' Future at Apple TV+ Gets Major Update Ahead of Season 5
Image
Fans are waiting for the fifth season of Slow Horses on Apple TV+, but some good news has been revealed about the show's future after the upcoming season.

Per Apple TV+, Slow Horses has officially been renewed for Season 6. The sixth season will be based on Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels from Mick Herron's Slough Horse novel series that inspired the show. The renewal comes days after Season 4 wrapped up earlier this month, and it's very early, as Season 5 is not expected to arrive until sometime in 2025. Even so, the news is not a major shocker, as the series is as acclaimed as ever following Season 4 earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Slow Horses Gets an Extra Early Season 6 Renewal at Apple TV+
Image
Apple TV+ has no intention of stepping out of the spy game. Slow Horses, based on the Slough House series of novels, has done really well for Apple TV+ since premiering in 2022, which makes it no surprise that the platform has handed out an early Season 6 renewal for the hit spy thriller.

Per Tech Radar, Slow Horses has been officially renewed for a sixth season, with the news arriving just as Season 4 concluded on Apple TV+. This represents an early renewal for the series as Season 5 was picked up back in January and will debut sometime in 2025.

The sixth season of the series is expected to find our spies on the run after they become involved in a "high-stakes game of revenge," courtesy of Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), the Deputy Director General of MI5. Season 6 will take its inspiration from the sixth and seventh books in the series of...

Slow Horses Renewed For Season 6 Less Than A Week After Season 4 Finale, Will Adapt Two Books
Image
Slow Horses season 6 has been renewed at Apple TV+, with book and story details revealed. After breaking out at the most recent Primetime Emmys, with nine nominations, the Apple TV+ spy dramedy wrapped up Slow Horses season 4 in somber and shocking fashion. It's a more overtly emotional territory for the Mick Herron adaptation, which will continue for at least the next few years.

Deadline confirms that Slow Horses season 6 has been renewed, with season 5 confirmed to be released in 2025. The upcoming episodes will follow what happens when the central spies go out on the run after Diana Tavener (Kristin Scott Thomas) gets them all involved in a fatal game of retribution and revenge. It's also confirmed that the upcoming sixth installment will adapt two Herron novels: Joe Country and Slough House,...
