Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ ‘Purpose’ Wins Pulitzer Prize For Drama
Image
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ play Purpose won the Pulitzer Prize for drama Monday.

The play, which follows a powerful family in Black American politics recovering from scandal, is currently running on Broadway starring Latanya Richardson Jackson, Kara Young, Harry Lennix, Jon Michael Hill, Glenn Davis and Alana Arenas. Phylicia Rashad directs the production, which came to Broadway at a Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre in March 2024.

Oh, Mary! written by Cole Escola, which is also currently running on Broadway and stars Escola, was named as a finalist, as was The Ally, written by Itamar Moses, which premiered Off-Broadway in February 2024. Purpose and Oh, Mary! are both nominated for Tony Awards for best play.

This is the first Pulitzer win for Jacobs-Jenkins, who was previously named a finalist for his 2017 play Everybody. His previous plays have included Appropriate, which won the 2024 Tony Award for best revival of a play and saw Sarah Paulson win a Tony for her role.

Sam Eckmann: Since we've both seen Purpose, the new drama from Tony-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, I think it's time we assess how it might fit into the race. The play follows an explosive evening for the influential Jasper family as they are snowed in during a birthday celebration. It also marks the Broadway directing debut of Phylicia Rashad. After claiming the Best Revival of a Play trophy for Appropriate last year, do you think Jacobs-Jenkins is on his way to a Best Play victory this year?

David Buchanan: I think it is absolutely possible that Purpose wins the top honor this year,...

‘Purpose’ Review: In Broadway Directorial Debut, Phylicia Rashad Deftly Teases Out Caustic Portrait of Black Political Dynasty
Image
At first glance, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ new Broadway play Purpose bears a striking resemblance to Appropriate, his subversive take on the white domestic dramas the theater world loves so much. Events in both works are instigated by a reunion and propelled by family feuds that reopen old wounds. Buried secrets resurface. Characters yell confessions and spew insults from across rooms and tables. The texture of the language is smooth, the observations piercing and the delivery cutting. A Jacobs-Jenkins play wouldn’t be complete without a sense of clever and hilarious frenzy.

But instead of revolving around a white family negotiating their legacy within the annals of American history, Purpose centers a powerful Black political dynasty recovering from scandal. The play, deftly directed by Phylicia Rashad, chronicles a weekend with the Jaspers, a legendary family whose patriarch Solomon (Harry Lennix) was an icon of the Civil Rights Movement. Their house, in a...

90 Day Fiance alum Michael “Mike” Eloshway has been sentenced for possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (Csam.) The former TLC star appeared in Season 1 of 90 Day Fiance in 2014 alongside his wife from Russia, Aziza.

Mike Eloshway Pleaded Not Guilty In Court

Turning down a plea deal that could have imprisoned him for 12 to 15 years, the TLC alum risked a trial where he was found guilty. At the time, his mom, who was in the court broke down and cried. While he remained quiet, 90 Day Fiance fans didn’t. On social media, they felt angry because the crimes involved thousands of images and videos of young children being abused.

Ahead of the sentencing, Mike Eloshway’s wife, Aziza, wrote a letter to the judge and pleaded for leniency. In it, she claimed that he was an amazing dad to their five-year-old daughter. Additionally, she claimed that he...

Aziza Eloshway
Michael “Mike” Eloshway from Season 1 of 90 Day Fiance has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after being found guilty of two charges of child pornography.

As well as being handed prison time, the former reality TV star was ordered to pay $20,000 in fines and will be registered as a sex offender.

The 40-year-old father of one was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Patricia Gaughan in the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, as Cleveland.com reports.

Mike was found guilty of receiving, distributing, and possessing illegal videos between 2022 and 2023, which contained “sadistic and masochistic content.”

Mike unknowingly sent some of the videos to an undercover officer, which prompted a federal search warrant and the seizure of his computer.

’90 Day Fiance’ Michael Eloshway Supported By Wife In Csam Case
90 Day Fiancé (2014)
90 Day Fiance alum Michael Eloshway was arrested and in July this year he went to trial for possession of graphic images of child pornography, (Csam.)

You might recall that his wife, Aziza seemed very young, so TLC fans presumed his guilt. But, the Russian mom still stands by him. This week, the news emerged that she pleaded for leniency ahead of his sentencing.

TLC Alum Michael Eloshway Had Thousands Of Images

90 Day Fiance fans were shocked to hear that Michael Eloshway was found to allegedly have more than 60K Csam files on his device. The TLC star from Ohio could get up to 20 years in prison, and critics hope he gets to serve every minute as they fear for their daughter, (5.)

Despite the crimes that little children, some just infants, were subjected to, Aziza believes that what he possessed doesn’t reflect his true personality. InTouch Weekly saw some of the correspondence,...

’90 Day Fiance’ Alum Faces Possible 20-Year Prison Sentence
Image
90 Day Fiance alums Michael Eloshway and Aziza debuted on Season 1 of the TLC show. As he was just found guilty of possessing sexual content of children being abused, (Csam), he could face up to 20 years in prison.

90 Day Fiance Alum Was Found Guilty Of Csam

Plenty of TLC stars ended up behind bars at one time or another, but it seems that Michael Eloshway committed one of the worst crimes. Like Josh Duggar, he possessed Csam content. However, he also went a step further and was receiving and distributing the content. Considering that Josh from 19 Kids and Counting went to prison for 12 years, it’s possible Aziza’s man could get more.

Michael Eloshway and Aziza – 90 Day Fiance – TLC

90 Day Fiance viewers saw that Aziza was much younger than Mike. Naturally, TLC fans didn’t like that. However, it’s unfortunate that he liked people even younger.

90 Day Fiancé Alum Mike Eloshway Charged With Allegedly Possessing Inappropriate Material
Image
90 Day Fiancé season 1 cast member Mike Eloshway has been charged in federal court in Cleveland with two counts of allegedly possessing inappropriate videos. Mike was seen in the very first season of the popular reality TV show with Aziza Mazhidova from Volgograd, Russia. Mike, who's from Cleveland, Ohio, had met the Russian woman on a language learning website. They had hit it off despite their 10-year age gap. The couple used to be just friends, but once Aziza's work permit application was denied, she came to the U.S. on a K-1 visa and documented her journey in the 2014 season.

Mike and Aziza have been together for years after their 90 Day Fiancé debut just like the other couples from the same season, and even welcomed a baby daughter named Olivia in 2019. However, according to Cleveland.com, Mike has landed in deep trouble and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in U.
