With awards season all but done and dusted, Oscars. Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.
On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.
This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.
However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.
Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

A new adaptation of Alex North's best-selling novel "The Whisper Man" on Netflix has found its star-studded cast. Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro will lead the new crime thriller and Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott (Mark Scout in Severance), Michael Keaton (Spotlight), and more will also star. It was first reported that the streaming platform was eyeing the project from Agbo in 2022, but the studio didn't confirm it until February 2025. Agbo is Anthony and Joe Russo's production company, with the brothers having directed several popular Marvel films and Netflix's recent sci-fi epic The Electric State. The filmmaking pair is on board to produce The Whisper Man.
According to Netflix, the film will follow the plot of North's New York Times best-selling book. It's the story of a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted after moving to a new home for a fresh start. The writer looks to his father,...

The Oscars are over. The Golden Globes have all been handed out. And the BAFTAs are but a swiftly fading, "Did David Tennant really sing 500 Miles with James McAvoy and Anna Kendrick?" memory now. But the BAFTA TV awards are very much still on the horizon, and as the celebration of the small screen gears up for its 11 May telecast, today we've learned who the nominees are that'll be vying for those precious golden statues. This post contains spoilers from Netflix's Zero Day episode 6 from this point forward.
As Monica's death makes the rounds on the news and Dreyer pushes the narrative of her responsibility of the Zero Day attack, Alex enters the war room in total stress. She asks, "Did we do this?" Do what, Alex? Be more specific! She knows that her father won't let Monica Kidder be the end of all of this. There's a loose thread and he will pull. She insists that they have to "come clean," but Dreyer is a menace.
The commission investigates Panoply's coding system and learns how Monica was able to widely spread the malware through app updates and Bluetooth. The coding had an AI engine, which seems just as scary as anything else. Mullen asks if she could have done this on her own, but he doesn't get the answer he was looking for.

The recent political thriller Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro, portrays a shattering cyber attack executed right under the noses of Americans, and its scenario is so scarily plausible that it blurs the thin line between fiction and reality.
More connected than ever, the modern world is also more at risk from cyberattacks than ever before. Cyberattacks have evolved from basic database breaches to more sophisticated hazards that can even risk national security and affect millions of lives.

Streaming has given many films a second chance, especially those that didn't make a profit at the box office or didn't get a release at all. Laura Dern's crime drama is among them.
In 2018, Dern starred in Blood Diamonds' Edward Zwick's biographical crime drama Trial by Fire, which was recently released on Netflix. The film was based on Cameron Todd Willingham's real-life case, and used David Grann's 2009 The New York Times article "Trial by Fire" as a base. Now, the movie has found a second life on streaming and has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

What made “Mr. Robot” such a captivating hacker drama when it aired in the mid-2010s was its incisive perspective. We followed an individual fed up with the greed of the 1%, the monopoly of corporations in American life and corruption at every level. The show had its gimmicks — twists and turns aimed to pull the rug from under the viewer, but it always felt like it had a lot to say about the status quo.
“Zero Day,” Netflix’s latest six-episode thriller, is another hacker show. Rather than being immersed in the hacker’s philosophy and point of view, we follow a government commission trying to get to the bottom of what happened. It is devoid of that rich point of view — the reasons for the hack, once eventually revealed, are unearned stakes deflated by an entire season of repetitive dead-end plotting and muted performances that don’t do much...

“When is the last time the country was able to solve any of its problems?” ambitious congresswoman Alexandra Mullen (Lizzy Caplan) screams at her father and former Potus George Mullen (Robert De Niro) in Netflix’s just-launched Zero Day.
It is a fair question for the six-episode political thriller, and for America 2025.
Certainly, in a week that has seen a sitting U.S. president parroting Kremlin bullet points while his manic billionaire buddy takes a blowtorch to the federal government, the political thriller created by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and Michael S. Schmidt and starring De Niro, Caplan, Angela Bassett, Joan Allen, Jesse Plemons, Bill Camp, Connie Britton, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III and Matthew Modine, may provide a much needed sugar high of hope — fictional or not. At the same time, ripped right out of the toxic underbelly of modern America as much as the headlines, Zero Day will show it can happen here,...

It's shocking to admit, but 2024 is almost over. We're getting into the second half of the year and nearing the end, which means 2025 is right around the corner. While a number of fan-favorite Netflix shows have made their premieres throughout 2024, there are still a large handful of strike-delayed shows and other big productions confirmed for release in 2025.
Obviously, we had held out hope that most of the biggest Netflix shows would be able to manage a release in 2024 amid challenges from strike delays and other setbacks. A decent amount have premiered, such as The Diplomat season 2 and Outer Banks season 4, but others will just keep us hanging a little bit longer to savor the suspense.
Even though Netflix released the latest seasons of Bridgerton, Emily in Paris, and more in 2024, we're still waiting on some huge titles. Wednesday season 2, Ginny & Georgia season 3, Sweet Magnolias season 4, and Stranger Things...
