- He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1982. He was a two-time All American.
- He played with the Chicago Bears in 1983 and until 1989. During his first season, he made five interceptions as a starter in the National Football League. He was a member of the Superbowl Championship Team in 1985. He was selected to 4 straight Pro-Bowls from 1985 to 1988. He had 566 tackles, 18 interceptions, 15 sacks, and 7 forced fumbles with the team.
