'Parks & Recreation's Amy Poehler, Mike Schur Reunite For New Comedy
Image
Break out your favorite waffle plate, because it's time to celebrate. Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler is reuniting with the series' creator, Mike Schur, to star and co-write a new comedy series for Peacock. As if creating one of the most joyous new podcasts ("Good Hang") wasn't enough, Poehler's decided that Dig, an adaptation of Kate Myers' novel, Excavations, will also fill up her proverbial waffle plate for the next year or so. And, truly, we couldn't be more excited to hear this news.

As reported by Variety, Dig will follow "four women working at an archeological dig in Greece," as they uncover a long-buried secret "with the potential to rewrite history." According to the series' official logline, these four women — all "at wildly different crossroads in their lives" — will end up finding themselves "at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy." Given that Poehler is involved, we can...

Review: Pod of Rebellion brings some of the Ghost Crew back together again
Image
It's been over 10 years since the premiere of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, which general audiences first saw on October 3, 2014. To celebrate a decade of nonstop love for the show, three of its voice actors have launched a rewatch podcast, Pod of Rebellion, from iHeart Radio. The podcast's first episode premiered earlier this week.

Featuring Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger), and moderated by actor Jon Lee Brody, the podcast recaps and deep dives into one episode at a time each week. The former castmates discuss behind-the-scenes stories, favorite moments, and more while answering Brody's guiding questions along the way.

The first episode, covering the first installment of "Spark of Rebellion," included a few stories about the show's cast first meeting one another and the very early days of the project. This will be Gray's first time seeing most of the completed episodes.

The cast of Star Wars Rebels is launching a rewatch podcast
Image
March 5th is Rebels Remembered Day, and this year was no disappointment as members of the Star Wars Rebels cast released a special announcement.

Starting on March 11, Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), and Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger) will launch Pod of Rebellion, a Star Wars Rebels rewatch podcast. Their fourth host will be filmmaker and writer Jon Lee Brody. According to their Apple Podcast description, "Together they will rewatch and break down every episode of Star Wars Rebels and also have visitors from various people in the Star Wars universe and fandom."

Marshall has confirmed on her Bluesky that they have special guests planned for the podcast. Personally, I would love to see the return of Rebels Recon hosts Andi Gutierrez and Pablo Hidalgo. Rebels Recon was the aftershow following each episode of Rebels. Gutierrez would interview the cast and crew, breaking down the episodes, so it...

10 Disney Xd Series Animation Fans Need to Binge-Watch Immediately
Image
When Disney Xd replaced Jetix back in 2009, fans were curious about what would be shown on this brand-new channel. Fortunately, Disney Xd was able to diversify away from The Disney Channel and offer audiences a plethora of interesting and unique content. Plus, these shows also appealed to international viewers, helping the franchise to take a break away from traditional American content.

However, now that Disney+ reigns supreme, a lot of audiences have forgotten about Disney Xd. As a result, a lot of die-hard animation fans are missing out on a ton of nostalgic shows that still manage to stand the test of time. Thus, instead of watching the same set of Disney shows over and over again, fans now have the chance to delve into a heap of hidden gems.

10 Actors You Forgot Were in Star Wars Rebels
Image
Star Wars Rebels launched an exciting new chapter in the Star Wars saga, pushing forward the franchise's animated storytelling. Starting five years before Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Rebels told the story of the Spectres, a small group of rebels who would go on to become part of the larger Rebel Alliance. Taking place so close to the original Star Wars trilogy, the series was able to revisit several familiar characters from the early movies, as well as continuing the stories of several characters last seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Additionally, Rebels brought plenty of new faces -- with new voices -- into the galaxy far, far away.

At the heart of Rebels was a family of new heroes, voiced by newcomers to the Star Wars galaxy. Jedi survivor Kanan Jarrus was voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr., previously known for his work in the live-action Scooby Doo movies.

16 best performances in Lucasfilm Animation in the last 10 years
Image
With Star Wars Rebels turning ten this year, we've had a decade's worth of stellar performances from Lucasfilm Animation. From the return of The Clone Wars to the newest outing from the Lego Star Wars miniseries Rebuild the Galaxy, let's dive into which voice actors brought out the best performances.

My picks are based on the entire run of a show, season, or miniseries. A guest spot on a single episode won't count. The only exception would be Star Wars: Visions being a series of shorts. Who gave a solid performance from the beginning to the end of their respective show.

In no particular order, here are the 16 best performances from Lucasfilm Animation in the last 10 years.

Star Wars Finally Reveals What Ahsoka Was Doing During (Part Of) The Original Trilogy
Image
Star Wars has finally given information on Ahsoka Tano's whereabouts during the Galactic Civil War and the original trilogy. Though Ahsoka was a major figure during the Clone Wars, she didn't appear in the original trilogy of Star Wars movies. She, of course, hadn't been created until decades after the original trilogy, but Star Wars has mostly avoided giving an explicit answer to the question of where Ahsoka was throughout the Galactic Civil War. Now, however, the franchise has given a concrete clue that helps narrow down exactly what she was doing and when she was doing it.

The recently released video game Star Wars Outlaws subtly redefined Ahsoka's Star Wars timeline by changing the date of a massive moment in the saga. Outlaws confirmed the date of the Purge of Mandalore to be 3 Aby, which was a full year prior to the previous canon timeline provided by Huyang in Ahsoka.

Bordizzo's role as Sabine reveals the character's transformation into a Mandalorian Jedi with the ability to access the Force, hinting at an exciting future in Ahsoka Season 2. With Sabine's story set to continue alongside Ahsoka in the Mandalorian era, fans can expect thrilling adventures against the likes of Grand Admiral Thrawn in upcoming installments.

Ahsoka introduced viewers to the live-action Sabine Wren, and here's all you need to know about the actress playing her. Sabine Wren was first introduced in Star Wars Rebels as a member of the show's titular Rebel crew. Star Wars Rewrites Sabine Wren's Rebels Origin In The Darkest Possible Way
Image
Sabine Wren's origin story in Star Wars Rebels revealed the guilt she feels over creating a superweapon for the Empire. The Empire's recreation of Sabine's weapon led to catastrophic results, tying her past to a dark genocide. Sabine's story may have an even deeper layer of tragedy, as she may have left the Empire due to realizing her weapon was used rather than what it would be used for.

Star Wars Rebels first outlined the origin story of Sabine Wren, yet new details have come to light that make her past all the more grim. While the fate of the Ghost crew in Star Wars Rebels has proven not to be the ending of their character arcs, there is no denying how important the animated show was to the foundations of people like Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger. Although both are expected to have stories in upcoming Star Wars TV shows,...

Star Wars Rebels Was The "Foundation" For The Live-Action Sabine, Confirms Ahsoka Star

Natasha Liu Bordizzo based her portrayal of Sabine Wren in Ahsoka on the "foundation" of the animated Star Wars Rebels series. Bordizzo studied the source material, including Rebels, chronologically to properly embody the character and understand her past. The character of Sabine Wren has gone through significant changes and losses, which has affected her relationship with Ahsoka and her journey in Ahsoka.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo, actress of Sabine Wren in Ahsoka, confirms she based her portrayal on the "foundation" of the animated Star Wars Rebels series. Tasked with bringing the animated Mandalorian rebel to life, Bordizzo has had the pressure of a faithful live-action interpretation ever since her name was first associated with the role. Natasha Liu Bordizzo Easily Related To Sabine's Struggles In Ahsoka
Image
The following article contains spoilers for "Ahsoka."

Getting to see a live-action version of the "Star Wars Rebels" character Sabine Wren was pretty cool. Whatever your feelings about the series, Natasha Liu Bordizzo absolutely captured the animated character from "Rebels" voiced by Tiya Sircar. In the Disney+ live-action "Ahsoka," we learned that Sabine had begun training as a Jedi with Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) before the events of the series. However, it wasn't working out and they'd parted ways. As the show begins, Ahsoka needs Sabine's help, and their training starts up again. Sabine is still struggling with frustration about her powers, and where she fits in the universe now. Add in the fact that she's missing her friend Ezra (Eman Esfandi) who is missing along with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and you have a recipe for some personality clashes.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Bordizzo said that she related her character's struggles,...

10 Actors You Forgot Starred in The Vampire Diaries

Along with being one of the biggest shows of the 21st century, The Vampire Diaries also had one of the biggest ensemble casts. The fantasy show shot its three lead actors -- Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley -- to stardom, but there were also plenty of actors who played smaller parts in the CW series.

Most of these actors, like Gavin Casalegno, played bit parts in the vampire drama but went on to become hugely popular for their own shows. Even super fans would have forgotten that these stars appeared in The Vampire Diaries in varying capacities.

Ahsoka Confirms The Fate Of A Fan-Favorite Mandalorian Clan
Image
Spoilers for "Ahsoka" follow.

What compelled Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), a Mandalorian, to remove and store her neon beskar armor in "Ahsoka"? Episode 4, "A Fallen Jedi," insinuates a depressing answer to this, as well as her fervor to find her long-lost battle brother Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) in the far reaches of Wild Space. It's only when Sabine regains hope in Ezra's survival that she dons her beskar and Mandalorian weaponry again.

Sabine lands in a tight spot when she seemingly loses her Jedi master, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). Cornered by Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), a former Jedi and Imperial-allied mercenary, Sabine holds the Wild Space map hostage. Through Force mind-reads and deduction, Baylan realizes that Sabine lost her Mandalorian birth family, which fuels her desperation to find Ezra. He tempts her to surrender the map in return for her survival, which gives the Thrawn loyalists the coordinates to Wild Space.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 1 and 2 Easter Eggs Explained

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.

There’s never been a Star Wars show quite as jam-packed with easter eggs and references as Ahsoka, which is not just pulling from The Mandalorian-era shows but also two animated series and even one of the most celebrated Expanded Universe novels of all time. It’s easily the most ambitious Star Wars series to date, especially as it will presumably also set up the film set to be directed by Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni.

Featuring characters from both The Clone Wars and Rebels, and essentially serving as a sequel to the latter cartoon, Ahsoka wastes no time with its callbacks, as elements from those animated series make the jump to live action.

Here are all the biggest easter eggs and points of interest in “Master and Apprentice” and “Toil and Trouble”:

‘Ahsoka’ Explained: What to Know From the ‘Star Wars’ Universe, From Ezra to Thrawn and Beyond
Image
Ever since “The Mandalorian” first arrived on Disney+ in Nov. 2019, Lucasfilm has strived to bring the world of “Star Wars” to streaming in a way that would satisfy lifelong fans without alienating anyone who has never before traveled to a galaxy far, far away. In many ways, that mission faces its greatest challenge with the newest “Star Wars” show, “Ahsoka.”

Technically a spin-off of Rosario Dawson’s performance as former Jedi Ahsoka Tano on “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett,” the show is really a sequel to two “Star Wars” animated shows: “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels.” Taken together, these shows, which ran from 2008 to 2020, span 208 episodes of TV, and roughly cover the events between “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” and “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” (on “Clone Wars”) and “Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope” (on “Rebels...

Where Was Sabine Wren During The Star Wars' Original Trilogy
Image
Sabine Wren broke the mold as a colorful and spunky Mandalorian who expressed herself through graffiti art, providing much-needed pizazz to the Rebellion. Sabine helped the Ghost Crew liberate Lothal from the Empire before A New Hope, and she took it upon herself to protect and watch over the planet in Ezra's absence. Sabine's homeworld of Mandalore was destroyed by the Empire during the original trilogy, causing her to grieve her losses and stay on Lothal, which became her home.

Sabine Wren is one of the most unique characters in the Ahsoka series, but many are wondering where she was during the fight against the Empire in the original Star Wars trilogy. Sabine first appeared in the animated Star Wars Rebels show back in 2014, where she was voiced by Tiya Sircar. Before her, most Mandalorians in Star Wars were portrayed as stoic and somber. Yet Sabine broke the mold...

Sabine Wren Is Star Wars’ Most Tragic Character
Image
Sabine Wren looks primed for new adventures in the Ahsoka series, and she's already no stranger to trials and tribulations, be they emotional upheaval or lightsaber skirmishes. Originated by Tiya Sircar in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo inheriting the role for Ahsoka, this fan favorite suffered more tragedy by the time she was sixteen than most Star Wars characters do in a lifetime. Adolescent angst is a franchise trope as old as, well, 1977.

Ahsoka Creator Promises Plenty of Great Lightsaber Fights

Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni and star Rosario Dawson both knew the Star Wars series needed to feature some jaw-dropping lightsaber brawls.

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes featurette, Filoni acknowledged the amount of effort that went into choreographing the fight sequences to deliver scenes that can impress fans looking for captivating swordplay. "There needs to be a lot of lightsaber fights, and they have to be good because our fans know the difference," the creator explained. Dawson agreed with this sentiment, elaborating that she pushed herself more than she ever has to deliver battles that she thinks will satisfy audiences. "I am playing someone who is an absolute expert. I really wanted to be able to physicalize that as much as possible... No matter how tired I was, I was like 'Sign me up for some more, sign me up for some more!'" she quipped.

Fans will recognize the vehicle has traditionally had brown colors on the central console and rear but Sabine's is colored purple and yellow, two colors that have become synonymous with the character.

Ahsoka’s Natasha Liu Bordizzo Says Her Sabine Wren Will Be Unique
Image
Ahsoka star Natasha Liu Bordizzo confirms that her live-action adaptation of Sabine Wren won’t be an exact copy of the Star Wars Rebels character.

Speaking with SFX Magazine, the Australian actor explained why it was important for her version of Sabine Wren to be different from the original animated character. "I loved Tiya Sircar's Sabine!... I loved the energy, sarcasm, and playfulness that really made Sabine... Sabine, but obviously, it's a delicate balance because I never want to try to copy someone," Bordizzo said. "I want to be inspired by the energy they put into the character and then make the role my own."

In order to really make the character her own, Bordizzo admitted that she stopped watching other Star Wars content after she started filming for Ahsoka. "Of course, I watched everything… including the original films, The Mandalorian and,...

Ahsoka Can Resolve a Star Wars Rebels Mandalorian Mystery
Image
Star Wars Rebels introduced a plethora of new Mandalorian faces to the galaxy far, far away. Similarly, thanks to The Mandalorian on Disney+, Mandalore is becoming increasingly important to the future of the Star Wars franchise. It has taken a deeper dive into the warrior culture that originated on the planet, and Season 3 saw many Mandalorians returning to their old home world. However, a few important figures are missing from their reassembled ranks, and Ahsoka can explain why.

Ahsoka will welcome back the most prominent Mandalorian character from Star Wars Rebels, Sabine Wren. The series will mark Sabine's first outing in live action, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo taking over the role from Tiya Sircar, who voiced the character in animation. Over the course of Rebels, Sabine played an instrumental role in securing the support of the Mandalorians for the Rebellion, inspiring her people to take up arms against the Empire.

The film follows a documentary crew as they film “political grifter” Rick Klingman (Barinhotlz), an attorney and political consultant on a mission to dig up some dirt against congressional candidate Antonio (Max Minghella).

He enlists his friend of his equally sketchy buddy Simon (O’Brien) and whilst unsure about their investigation at first, the deeper down the rabbit hole they go the crazier things get.

David Stassen directs a cast that also includes Blake Anderson, Beth Grant, Kiernan Shipka, Brianna Baker, Mark Proksch and Tiya Sircar.

The movie hits U.S. theatres and On Demand on June 23rd.

Why Star Wars Rebels' Sabine Doesn't Feel Like a Hero in Ahsoka
Image
In the animated series Star Wars Rebels, Sabine Wren (voiced by Tiya Sircar) was instrumental in liberating Lothal from the Galactic Empire. Despite this, however, Sabine still doesn't feel like a hero in the upcoming live-action series Ahsoka.

During an interview with Empire, live-action Sabine actor Natasha Liu Bordizzo discussed the Mandalorian warrior's headspace heading into Ahsoka, explaining that she is still deeply concerned regarding the whereabouts of Jedi Padawan and fellow Rebel Ezra Bridger. "She feels an obligation to him," Bordizzo said. "When they freed Lothal, she was given this hero status. But she doesn't feel that she's earned that because she lost her friend in that whole debacle. She's just focused on the promise she made to him to find him."

The Star Wars Visions Aardman Short Pays Hidden Tribute To A Rebels Twi'lek
Image
"Star Wars: Visions" Volume 2 seemed to have done its homework on Star Wars cartoons. For starters, the "Bandits of Golak" utters a quip like "All this for sweets?", which emulates a line like "All this for fruit?" in "Star Wars Rebels" season 1. But the Aardman stop-motion short "I Am Your Mother" takes its "Rebels" homages a step further through its Twi'lek character designs.

That is, if the creative and color choices aren't just a coincidence. The Aardman short concerns a teal Twi'lek mother and daughter, both of whom just happen to resemble the old teal concept art of Hera Syndulla, the Twi'lek pilot of the Ghost crew in "Rebels" voiced by Vanessa Marshall. This may feel coincidental until you spy Hera Syndulla floating in the background and suspect that the short's director, Magdalena Osinska, was deliberate about their nearly identical appearances to the Hera prototypes. After all, the young Twi'lek...

Ghosted Review
Image
Plot: Salt-of-the-earth Cole falls head over heels for enigmatic Sadie — but then makes the shocking discovery that she’s a secret agent. Before they can decide on a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept away on an international adventure to save the world.

Review: Thanks to the blockbuster films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans has become synonymous with Captain America. Through roles in Knives Out and Defending Jacob, Evans has tried to stretch himself beyond the realm of comic books by selecting projects that are nowhere near comparisons to Steve Rogers. With Ghosted, Evans takes on a role that could not be any less like his iconic superhero role while still allowing him to have fun with stunts, spectacle, and a fair amount of comedy. Reuniting with his Knives Out co-star Ana De Armas, Ghosted is a fun yet predictable action movie with solid stuntwork and great...

‘Ghosted’ Star Chris Evans Loved Playing the ‘Damsel in Distress’ Opposite ‘Badass’ Ana de Armas
Image
Chris Evans saved the world (and even the universe) multiple times as Captain America. But in his latest Apple TV+ action film “Ghosted,” it’s Ana de Armas who’s doing the rescuing.

“It was great. I mean, we’ve all seen Ana be badass; she was so good in [‘No Time to Die’],” Evans told Variety at the New York premiere of “Ghosted” on Tuesday night. “It was nice to be the damsel in distress. It was nice to need saving — primarily because I didn’t have to sweat during the action sequences.”

Directed by Dexter Fletcher, “Ghosted” follows hopelessly romantic Cole (Evans), who falls head over heels for the enigmatic Sadie (de Armas). When Sadie seemingly ghosts him, Cole follows her to London as a romantic gesture, only to discover that the girl of his dreams is a CIA agent on assignment.

Ahsoka’s Star Wars Rebels Characters: Live-Action vs. Animation Comparison
Image
Star Wars Celebration 2023 has brought a plethora of exciting news for the upcoming Ahsoka series, including a new trailer that gives a first look at the much anticipated return of many beloved Star Wars Rebels characters. Since the advent of Ahsoka herself, as well as Bo-Katan introducing the concept of animated Star Wars characters making the jump to live action with their inclusion in The Mandalorian, fans have eagerly been awaiting this treatment for the Ghost crew as well. Given the massive cliffhanger that Rebels left on its viewers, Ahsoka was undoubtedly the perfect place to pick up right where things left off.

Obviously, such a drastic change in mediums would facilitate an equally major change in these characters. As not all cases work out as well as Katee Sackhoff performing both iterations of Bo-Katan Kryze, most animated characters will inevitably undergo a change in portrayal from the actor that initially provided their voices,...

Perfect Sabine Wren Cosplay Brings Fan-Favorite Mandalorian To Live-Action
Image
Warnings: Spoilers for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 5.An incredible cosplay brings Star Wars Rebels' Sabine Wren to life ahead of her live-action debut. Lucasfilm's first animated TV show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, followed an anthology approach. In contrast, Star Wars Rebels followed the same set of main characters from start to finish. As a result, audiences grew attached to names like Ezra Bridger and Sabrine Wren, and their returns to the saga have been long overdue.

Sabine Wren’s unique Mandalorian armor has been brought to life by cosplayer Lady Wren (@ladywren_cosplay), who has embodied the Star Wars character in a series of pictures that make it seem like Rebels just got a live-action sequel.

The Deeper (And Dark) Meaning Behind Bo-Katan's Redemption In The Mandalorian Season 3
Image
From animation to live-action, the Mandalorian known as Bo-Katan Kryze (both iterations played by Katee Sackhoff) has gone through a messy redemption quest. Perhaps "redemption" may be too generous of a word. Kryze is a woman of many facets: extremist warmonger, attempted savior of Mandalore, violator of Mandalorian treaties by teaming up with the Republic military, (apparent) rightful wielder of the Darksaber, and now a guest member of a Mandalorian cult.

Bo-Katan walked many convoluted and compelling paths in the name of liberating her shattered Mandalore homeworld. Like the symbol of the Darksaber, Bo-Katan's idea of liberating and leading Mandalore has assumed many shapes, some unsavory and some noble, but always shaded by gray morality. The most recent chapter of "The Mandalorian, "The Pirate," steers Bo-Katan back into the higher calling of unifying Mandalore, but in a way that also belies the atrocities of her past allegiances.

In season 3, episode 3 of "The Mandalorian,...

7 Star Wars Voice Actors Who Were Recast For Live-Action
Image
Star Wars has always been a transmedia franchise, with many characters making the jump from animation to live-action - and some recast. In a transmedia franchise like Star Wars, it's quite common for characters to transition from one medium to another. This often requires recasting, usually for practical reasons; it would be too expensive for Lucasfilm to hire Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, for example.

It can work the other way round, of course, especially now animated Star Wars shows are inspiring new live-action Star Wars Disney+ TV shows. Indeed, it's not unusual for voice actors to be recast when their characters transition into a live-action form; they may have no experience in front of the camera, look nothing like the character they've portrayed, or simply not fit a director or showrunner's vision. This consequently means transmedia franchises often recast voice actors, and this...

How The Mandalorian Dealt With Clone Wars Lore That Contradicted Season 1
Image
"The Mandalorian" is back with a third season on Disney+ after a two-year wait. One of the central storylines this season features Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) traveling to the ruined Mandalore to bathe in the Living Waters under the Mines of Mandalore. Why does he have to do this? Din has done something a certain sect of Mandalorians isn't supposed to; he has removed his helmet in front of others. This makes him an apostate to his group, though other Mandalorians like Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) scoff at him for doing so.

Din has removed his helmet a few times, most gut-wrenchingly when Grogu left with Luke Skywalker to continue his Jedi training. This helmet issue and the split within the Mandalorian ranks (both now and during their history) have been central themes of the show. Whether it will change or not will depend on where the story goes, what he learns while on Mandalore,...

Why Din Djarin Is So Crap At Wielding The Darksaber
Image
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the second episode of "The Mandalorian" season 3.

Lightsabers have been a staple of the "Star Wars" franchise since Luke Skywalker saw one for the first time in the Tatooine cave of Obi-Wan Kenobi in "A New Hope." Over the decades, we've learned about the different styles of lightsabers, the Kyber crystals needed to create them, what the different colors might mean, and how to wield them. The Darksaber is a bit different than the rest, however. It was created by Tarre Vizsla a thousand years before "The Mandalorian" takes place. Tarre was the first to be both a Mandalorian and a Jedi, despite the fact that those two groups have a less-than-friendly history. The Jedi held it in their Temple until the Mandalorians freed it. Now their lore says the wielder of the Darksaber has the right to rule Mandalore, but only if they win it through combat.

The 14 Best The Good Place Episodes, Ranked
Image
In the past decade, network television has failed to compete creatively with the shows available on premium channels and streaming services. The best showrunners and artists in the industry tend to sign deals with the studios that they know will give them the freedom to pursue their ideas to their fullest potential. How can networks like NBC compete with blockbuster shows like HBO's "Game of Thrones" or Netflix's "Stranger Things?"

A rare exception to this trend is NBC's brilliant existential science fiction sitcom "The Good Place." Although it functions as a standard network comedy, "The Good Place" is slyly subversive in the way that it tackles themes such as inherent nature, determinism, and mental health. Creator Michael Schur is a veteran of the industry. He previously worked on "The Office," "Parks and Recreation," and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."

"The Good Place" is set in a utopian afterlife where Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell...

‘Day Shift’ Star Natasha Liu Bordizzo Is Living Her ‘Star Wars’ Dream as Sabine Wren
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo is bursting at the seams as she tries to contain her excitement over landing her dream role as Sabine Wren in the Star Wars galaxy. In May, the Australian actor was introduced to thousands of fans at Star Wars Celebration as she promoted 2023’s Disney+ series Ahsoka, alongside Ahsoka Tano herself, Rosario Dawson.

The road to being cast as the artistic Mandalorian warrior started when Bordizzo sent in a self-tape, and it happened to include a scene from Top Gun, as well as another unrelated scene that reminded her of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo. So even though she didn’t know that she was auditioning for a Star Wars project like Ahsoka, Captain Solo’s spirit was very much on her mind and hasn’t left.

“[In the audition scene], this lady was trying to pay my character to help her, and my friend and I were like,...

‘The Afterparty’ Review: Sam Richardson Shines in Apple TV+’s Genre-Bending Mystery Comedy
Elizabeth Perkins, John Cho, Ken Jeong, Vivian Wu, Tiffany Haddish, Zach Woods, Jack Whitehall, Paul Walter Hauser, Zoë Chao, Sam Richardson, Anna Konkle, and Poppy Liu in The Afterparty (2022)
Described as a “genre-defying series,” Apple TV+’s “The Afterparty” features a murderer’s row of comedic talent, all joined together for creator and sole director Chris Miller’s murder mystery. Set on the night of a 15-year high school reunion where a murder has occurred, nearly every segment in the eight-episode season (of which seven were provided for this review) comes from the perspective of one of the night’s attendees. That individual provides testimony to the detective on the case — Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) — who considers these accounts “mind movies.” According to Danner, “we’re all the stars of our own movie” — which creates the basic angle of the series.

Based on these individual episode-length “mind movies,” “The Afterparty” sets out to build a complete picture of what actually happened on the night of the murder of a high-profile celebrity (and the suspects’ former classmate), Xavier (Dave Franco...
