New casting information has been revealed for FBI Season 7.

Per Deadline, Emily Alabi (S.W.A.T.) has been cast as a new character in the current seventh season of FBI. She will be playing a new agent who's expected to be paired with John Boyd's Stuart Scola after the character's partner, Katherine Renee Kane's Tiffany Wallace, left the series last year. Alabi will have a recurring role in Season 7, but if all goes well, she could be upped to series regular in Season 8.

No Time to Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga has finally found his next directorial project in the form of the crime thriller film titled 77 Blackout. This will be the Emmy-winning filmmakers first movie project in a long while, after previously directing Daniel Craig in his final James Bond movie in 2021.

Per Deadline, Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali are set to lead the cast of Fukunagas 77 Blackout movie, which takes place in New York City. This project reunites Ali with Fukunaga, after they first collaborated on the third season of HBOs acclaimed crime drama True Detective, where the Jane Eyre director served as a producer. The film is likely inspired by a real-life event that happened in the city back in July 1977, where most parts of NYC were affected by a 25-hour-long electricity blackout. Because of this, some people resorted to looting, arson, and rioting.

The WGA has called on its members to save television and feature writing as its strike authorization vote opens.

The guild, in an email to members seen by Deadline, said, “The survival of writing as a profession is at stake in this negotiation.”

“Over the past decade, while our employers have increased their profits by tens of billions, they have embraced business practices that have slashed our compensation and residuals and undermined our working conditions. We’ve met and talked with thousands of you about our bargaining agenda and heard loud and clear that this negotiation can’t be business as usual. The compensation increases and protections we’re demanding are designed to restore what has been taken away from writers,” it added.

The guild revealed last week that it was opening the vote, otherwise known as the Sav, which was widely expected as it continues talks with the studios.

The Writers Guild is taking its first step toward a potential industry strike.

The union has set a strike authorization vote, with online polls opening April 11 at 8:30 p.m. and closing April 17 at 12 p.m., the guild announced to members on Monday. While a strike authorization vote does not ensure a writers strike will occur, it does gauge members’ willingness to cease work if the union deems a strike necessary. If a large portion of members supports a potential strike, that could improve writers’ leverage in their ongoing talks with the studios and streamers. As such, the guild was widely expected to call the vote at some point during a round of negotiations that many members consider pivotal for shoring up the future of their profession.

Exclusive: Netflix is exploring the story of the Boston Marathon bombing in a new docuseries.

The streamer has ordered three-part series American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing from director Floyd Russ and exec producer Tiller Russell.

The series will explore the tragedy, which saw terrorists bomb the marathon finish line. It will premiere on April 12, almost 10 years to the day of the attack.

The attack was carried about by brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who planted two homemade pressure-cooker bombs that killed three people and injured hundreds.

The three-part series will dive into the terrifying days that followed the attacks, assembling a minute-by-minute recounting of the manhunt from thousands of hours of closed-circuit video, police radio and cell phone footage, as well as testimony from the police officers, FBI agents, and ordinary citizens whose heroics led to the killers’ capture. Tamerlan Tsarnaev died at a hospital shortly after his arrest.

Sometimes, when you watch TV professionally for a living, you get paranoid and start to question everything. NBC has set the series finale for medical drama New Amsterdam for January 17 at 9 p.m. The two-hour episode follows the series premiere of freshman comedy Night Court.

Additionally, New Amsterdam will return from hiatus on January 3 at 10 p.m.

New Amsterdam, from creator/executive producer David Schulner, director/executive producer Peter Horton and Universal Television, stars Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, who became the medical director of New Amsterdam, one the country’s oldest public hospitals, with the goal of reforming it by tearing up its bureaucracy to provide better care to patients.

The series also stars Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Tyler Labine, Sandra Mae Frank, Alejandro Hernandez, and Gina Gershon.

Deadline exclusively revealed in March that the medical drama would wrap up with a 13-episode Season 5. The show will conclude with a total of 92 episodes.

Never one to shy away from real-world healthcare issues, New Amsterdam this Tuesday will tackle the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision this past June to overturn Roe v. Wade, which had previously made access to an abortion a federal right.

The episode (airing at 10/9c on NBC) finds all of the show’s doctors reacting to the news that fateful morning and trying to navigate their feelings about it, personally, and as medical professionals with a responsibility to their patients, even those with whom they do not agree.

Last week, more than 400 TV creators and showrunners — all of them women — sent letters to top executives at Hollywood studios demanding that specific safety protocols be put in place for pregnant employees in states where abortion has been outlawed, or soon will be. Now, letters of support signed by 594 men — including J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Greg Berlanti, Donald Glover, Aaron Sorkin, David E. Kelley, Taika Waititi and Ryan Murphy — have been sent to the same companies.

The text of the letter is short, simply saying the undersigned stand with their “female, trans & non-binary showrunner colleagues in demanding a response from our employers regarding the imminent crisis” at hand. It was delivered by replying-all to the first letter, and was sent to Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Apple, NBC Universal, Amazon, Lionsgate and AMC.

These activist correspondences have been instigated by the Supreme Court’s June 24 Dobbs decison, which overturned Roe v.

Freema Agyeman, who has played Dr. Helen Sharpe since the launch of NBC medical drama series New Amsterdam, is departing the show ahead of its fifth and final season.

Agyeman announced the news, first reported by TVLine, on Instagram.

“Dearest Dam Fam. First off I would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you for your unending, dedicated and deliciously ferocious support!” Agyeman wrote. “I feel very fortunate to have connected with so many of you over these past few years, while rolling around in the skin of Ms. Helen Sharpe, and witness every ebb and flow of your emotional investment. What a ride! Thank you for being on it with me. She has meant so much to me, but the time has come for me to hang up her white coat, as I officially share the news that I will not be returning for the final season of New Amsterdam.

We’ll be seeing more of Dr. Elizabeth Wilder on NBC’s New Amsterdam. Sandra Mae Frank, who joined the series in the current fourth season as a recurring, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming fifth and final season, Deadline has confirmed.

Frank, who is deaf, portrays deaf surgeon and the newest Chief of Oncology at New Amsterdam Medical Center, Elizabeth Wilder. She was first interviewed by Max (Ryan Eggold) to fill Helen’s (Freema Agyeman) position. Max then offered her his job as the hospital’s medical director, which she turned down, but went on to join the staff as Chief of Oncology. She appeared in 12 episodes this season.

“New Amsterdam” is closing its doors.

The NBC medical drama will end with its fifth season, TheWrap has confirmed. The show, which stars “Blacklist” alum Ryan Eggold as hospital director Dr. Max Goodwin, is currently airing its fourth.

The show’s fifth and final season, airing as part of the 2022-2023 TV season, will consist of 13 episodes.

“The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted programming for NBCUniversal Television and streaming said in a statement. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.”

Exclusive: The Man in the High Castle alumna Frances Turner is joining the current third season of NBC medical drama series New Amsterdam in a recurring role.

Turner will play Dr. Lyn Malvo, the new Chair of the Ob department. Malvo will have a “complicated” friendship with Dr. Reynolds (Jocko Sims) this season. She will first be seen in tomorrow’s (Tuesday) episode entitled “Catch.”

New Amsterdam is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital and his 15 years as medical director at the hospital.

Schulner and Peter Horton executive produce along with Michael Slovis, David Foster, Aaron Ginsburg and Shaun Cassidy. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah.

Turner is best known for her starring role in the fourth and final season of critically acclaimed series, Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle.

Discovery Plus will stream “If I Can’t Have You: The Jodi Arias Story,” a two-hour special on the infamous trial involving Jodi Arias, who was convicted of killing ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander, beginning Feb. 12. While the trial points to her guilt, the documentary sheds uncertainty on the ruling by granting viewers access to Arias’ personal diaries, unseen police interviews and testimony and interviews with those closest to the case. The special, which includes both Arias and Alexander’s loved ones, seeks to uncover if Arias is truly a murderer or a misunderstood woman who acted in self-defense.

NBC has slotted the Season 3 premiere date for its hit medical drama New Amsterdam. The series will return to its original time slot, debuting Tuesday, March 2 at 10 p.m.

The series moved to a 9 p.m. timeslot vacated by This Is Us at the end of March to finish its second season. Production on Season 3 had been delayed for weeks because of Covid-19 and related production shutdowns.

New Amsterdam has been a strong ratings performer, averaging a 3.3 in the 18-49 demo and 13.8 million in total audience measurement and reaching 45 million viewers over the course of its previous season.

When The 100 came to a close, it left many fans feeling shocked and dissatisfied with the show's ending. 

Not only did the fan-favorite romance between Bellamy and Clarke never come to fruition, but Clarke shot and killed Bellamy long before the series finale aired. 

For those who enjoyed the relationship between Bellarke and were disappointed about how it all went down, New Amsterdam's Sharpin might help fill the void. 

In addition to Max and Helen's dynamic, paralleling Bellamy and Clarke's, Aaron Ginsburg, who previously wrote on The 100, is a producer of the show. It's the best of both worlds. 

The plot and setting of these TV series may be drastically different, but, surprisingly, the core is the same.

Throughout the existing six seasons, each episode has stood out, and yet one thing has remained. The impact that writers have through their work will always be its legacy.

Aaron Ginsburg is a perfect example of that, with his hard work (alongside his writing partner Wade McIntyre) leaving behind a long-lasting appreciation for the episodes he created and the voice that really made those episodes their own.

It was a stunning adventure whenever Aaron took over an episode, a guarantee of action and emotion and boundaries being pushed at every turn. You would never know to expect of an episode if Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre were in control, except that it would stay with you long after the episode aired.

How do you like them apples? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple is financing Dr. Dre's TV series, Vital Signs. The project is a dark, half-hour drama which THR says is semi-autobiographical (for Dre), and at least one episode features an orgy. Reportedly, Sam Rockwell and Mo McCrae are in the Vital Signs cast.

Vital Signs is being produced by Paul Hunter, under his Eye Candy shingle. Empire's Robert Munic will executive produce and write all six episodes. Aaron Ginsburg and William Green are also producing. This will be the first original scripted series for Apple.

Zoe Kazan, best known for writing and starring in the offbeat romantic comedy Ruby Sparks, is set to lead writer-director Bryan Bertino's (The Strangers) horror film, There Are Monsters. Kazan stars as a mother who must protect her daughter from a merciless creature. William Green and Aaron Ginsburg of Atlas Independent will produce alongside Adrienne Biddle of Unbroken Pictures with A24 set to distribute the picture. Bertino previously wrote and directed the excellent home invasion horror The Strangers, which grossed $85 million dollars. His sophomore feature, Mockingbird, was silently dumped to VOD last October after years of post-production. I can only assume that decision was motivated by found footage fatigue. While Mockingbird didn't quite live up to The Strangers, it's a well executed film driven by an ever-growing sense of dread. On this week’s The 100, Clarke and Lexa lead the Grounders and Sky People against the Mountain Men, Raven and Wick attempt to disable Mount Weather’s power, Octavia officially becomes a Grounder, and Bellamy teams with Jasper and Maya.

If there’s one thing The 100 can guarantee, it’s the ability to shock and awe, especially when it comes to the show’s multitude of characters–the majority of The 100‘s plotlines hinge on its characters’ decisions and behavior and general response to their surroundings. Murro, who recently directed Warner Bros’ 300: Rise Of An Empire, is gearing up for a summer production start. Highland Film Group is launching international sales next week in Berlin.
