“Following the success of our Re-Animator 40th Anniversary release, Bride will rise again in early 2026 with a brand-new 4K restoration,” the companies announced. “Expect a deluxe collector’s edition packed with exclusive bonus features and all-new surprises for longtime fans.”
Re-Animator producer Brian Yuzna steps into the director’s chair for the 1990 sequel, written by Zeph E. Daniel (Society) and Rick Fry (Society).
Jeffrey Combs returns to star as Herbert West alongside Bruce Abbott, Claude Earl Jones, Fabiana Udenio, David Gale, and Kathleen Kinmont.
Taking place eight months after the Miskatonic massacre, Doctors West and Cain are experimenting again. But this time, instead of reanimating corpses, they’ve decided to create new life — in the form of a beautiful companion for Dr.

Let’s be honest, when someone mentions Michael J. Fox, your brain probably jumps straight to Back to the Future. The red vest, the DeLorean, that wild “Great Scott!” energy… it’s iconic, and so is he. Marty McFly basically defined a generation. But here’s the thing: Michael J. Fox didn’t stop being awesome after time travel.
He’s been out here delivering underrated bangers, low-key gems, and performances that hit way harder than you’d expect. Comedy? Drama? Even animated voice work? He’s done it all, and chances are, you’ve missed a few of his best roles just because they didn’t involve a flux capacitor.
So if you’ve only seen him skateboarding through Hill Valley, buckle up, we’re about to dive into some seriously good Michael J. Fox movies that deserve their own moment in the spotlight. Trust us, there’s way...

Watch the exclusive clip of Barbara Crampton from the “Re-Animator” 4K restoration above.
Forty years ago, Barbara Crampton was at the beginning of her screen career when director Stuart Gordon cast her in his debut film “Re-Animator,” a wildly funny and audacious horror movie based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. “I had come from the theater and it was one of my first jobs,” Crampton told IndieWire. “I had worked with Brian De Palma for a minute and on a soap opera, but I think I was too green to understand that we were doing something special.”
“Re-Animator” was something special indeed, a bold and original film that not only ignored the boundaries of good taste but demolished them, yet exhibited an artistry that earned it positive reviews from critics like Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert. “Re-Animator” quickly attracted a cult following, thanks to Gordon’s rollercoaster script,...

Few actors outside the main cast members of each Star Trek series have appeared repeatedly throughout the franchise than Jeffrey Combs. Combs, who was born and raised in California, began appearing in several Star Trek series during the mid-1990s. From Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to Star Trek: Enterprise, Combs made guest appearances and even played recurring characters that fans grew to admire.
Jeffery Combs: a varied career
After studying theater arts in California and Washington, Combs set his sights on Hollywood and moved to Los Angeles. He began landing roles quickly, including Whose Life Is It Anyway, The Man With Two Brains, and From Beyond. In 1985, Combs would embody the character of Herbert West in the film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s Reanimator as well as two sequels. He’d enter the Star Trek universe in the mid-1990s.

"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" only had eight central cast members listed as its regulars in the opening credits, but by the end of its seventh and final season, it had no fewer than 30 members in its ensemble. Like on "The Simpsons," all of the supporting players on "Deep Space Nine" expanded as the series went on, with many of them getting story arcs of their own. Actors like Andrew J. Robinson, Penny Johnson Jerald, Marc Alaimo, Max Grodénchik, Aron Eisenberg, Louise Fletcher, and Jeffrey Combs may have only technically played recurring characters, but they were just as important to the sweeping narrative of "Deep Space Nine" as the main cast.
Case in point: Chase Masterson played a character named Leeta, a Bajoran woman who worked in Quark's Bar. Leeta was a dabo girl, hired to spin a Ferengi roulette wheel and look pretty. She was first introduced in...

One of H.P. Lovecraft's classic tales of horror is coming back to the big screen. Deadline reports that Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe are penning a modernized remake of Herbert West: Reanimator. The story was previously adapted for the screen in 1985 as Re-Animator.
Although his works are famously difficult to adapt, Lovecraft has been a source of inspiration for a number of successful horror films over the years, including Color Out of Space, Banshee Chapter, and Suitable Flesh. Simon and Metcalfe are no strangers to the horror genre; together, the two wrote the Snoop Dogg blaxploitation homage Bones and the supernatural hit The Haunting in Connecticut. Simon directed the fright flicks Brain Dead and Carnosaur, while Metcalfe penned the horror sequel Fright Night Part 2 and the Brad Pitt-David Duchovny serial killer thriller Kalifornia. One of H.P. Lovecraft's most important stories is being adapted for the big screen. Again. A new adaptation of Herbert West: Reanimator, the 1922 short story that inspired the 1985 horror comedy Re-Animator, is in the works. The film will give modern audiences a new chance to witness the sick mind of West, the scientist who develops a serum that can bring corpses back to life. Herbert West: Reanimator was one of the first literary works to include "zombies" as reanimated corpses with uncontrollable urges.
As reported by Deadline, screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, of The Haunting in Connecticut fame, will write the script for the new project. They'll reunite with executive producer Andrew Trapani, who worked with them on The Haunting in Connecticut and also produced the horror film Winchester. A director is yet to be announced for the film.
Woodlake Entertainment is on board as the production studio behind the project.

Forty years after Stuart Gordon’s horror classic, Re-Animator, a new take on Hp Lovecraft’s 1922 story has been announced.
Director Stuart Gordon’s 1985 horror Re-Animator may be a cult classic, but it’s somewhat different from the story which inspired it. Forty years on, though, Hp Lovecraft’s 1922 short story, Herbert West – Reanimator, is getting a new adaptation.
According to Deadline, the new take on Lovecraft’s sci-fi horror piece will be financed by Woodlake Entertainment, while its writers are Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, who previously collaborated on the 2009 chiller, The Haunting In Connecticut.
Adam Simon also has some other credits worth highlighting. He directed a couple of films for producer Roger Corman in the 1990s – the horror Brain Dead, starring Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton, and the hurriedly-made Jurassic Park cash-in, Carnosaur. He wrote and directed the terrific documentary about modern horror, The American Nightmare, in 2000. He...

A new, contemporary adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story Herbert West: Reanimator is in the works from The Haunting in Connecticut screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, Deadline reports tonight.
The new adaptation is said to be the first in a series of “elevated genre pics” developed and financed by Woodlake Entertainment.
Herbert West: Reanimator centers on “the brilliant but mercurial physician West, whose rabid obsession and pursuit of life extension succeeds to a horrifying effect.”
The news arrives as the short story’s first feature adaptation, Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator, turns 40 this year. This loose retelling of H.P. Lovecraft’s Herbert West-Reanimator goes for the jugular in terms of gore and laughs thanks to director Stuart Gordon, producer Brian Yuzna, and actor Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West.
Lovecraft’s short story, first serialized in Home Brew magazine in 1922, is the first among his works to mention the fictional Miskatonic University.

When done right, interactive fiction and horror can be a winning combination. Take R.L. Stine's "Give Yourself Goosebumps" book series as an example, which featured a single story with choice-based branching plotlines. The idea was that the reader would play an active role in nudging the tale towards a certain direction, be it in the form of simple puzzle-solving or classic choices. For instance, if a road diverged, the reader choosing left would land on a certain page number, which would then continue the story and map out the consequences of that choice. This thrilling choose-your-own-adventure approach to "Goosebumps" facilitated a one-of-a-kind storytelling experience, as it added yet another layer of anticipation to the stakes within the narrative. Sadly, almost all of these interactive books in Stine's series are currently out of print.
Interactive fiction in horror, however, is not confined to novels or short stories. There's the Emmy-winning...

A couple of things that we’ve covered on the channel at length are the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and the films of gone too soon writer and director Stuart Gordon. For Lovecraft, we have looked at everything from behind-the-scenes drama on The Curse to the accuracy and differences of literary adaptations like The Resurrected. We have given Gordon his time in the sun as well, with deep looks at both his movie Dolls and his Poe adaptation of The Pit and the Pendulum. These two titans have also intersected more than a few times with Gordon making movies out of Lovecraft stories like Dagon and Castle Freak and, most famously and something we have covered on more than a few occasions, Re-Animator. Lost in the shuffle is a collaboration of these two greats that may be the greatest achievement that nobody talks about. From Beyond takes a lot of the elements,...

Weird fiction may not be quite as popular as more traditional genres like fantasy or even gothic horror, but you’d be surprised with how much of modern media is inspired or at least influenced by the works of authors like Clark Ashton Smith and even August Derleth. Of course, if one man is responsible for codifying Weird Fiction as we know it today, it has to be the father of the Cthulhu Mythos himself, Howard Phillips Lovecraft.
In the century or so since the author first published his stories about fish cults and elder gods, countless other creators have repurposed his particular brand of cosmic horror for everything from satirical splatter films to even sanity mechanics in gaming (like those in the Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG). And with such a vast web of influence, it should come as no surprise that many artists have attempted to pay homage...

In the world of Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek," the bulk of the galaxy is overseen by an off-screen mega-bureaucracy called the United Federation of Planets, or just the Federation for short. The Federation is sort of like a supra-un that binds hundreds of civilized, technologically advanced planets in a widespread and benevolent pact of mutual aid. "Star Trek" is meant to take place in a post-scarcity society, and that's largely because so many planets are finally able to properly reallocate their resources. Starfleet is the regimented space navy that the Federation employs to engage in missions of exploration, study, and delivery.
The concepts of "the Federation" and "Starfleet," however, took a while to fully form on "Star Trek." In the episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday", Captain Kirk (William Shatner) refers to his organization as the United Earth Space Probe Agency. It wouldn't be until "A Taste of Armageddon" that the...

For many horror fans, no decade did it better than the 1980s. Sure, that was the slasher heyday, but there was so much more going on as well, from monster movies to wild body horror films. Two decades later, in 2006, three '80s horror legends reunited for writer and director Ryan Schifrin's Abominable. Among the cast are Dee Wallace (The Howling),Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead), and Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), but it's Matt McCoy who is the true star in this fright fest that's part Rear Window and part monster movie, because the title is in reference to a killer sasquatch. Yep, Abominable is a Bigfoot movie, but don't roll your eyes just yet. Although Abominable is campy, it's also terrifying, with a fun story, and a creepy-looking beast you won't soon forget.

There were two great horror series that debuted on Peacock last October, and despite one of them getting rave reviews from fans and critics, they've both been canceled. If you watched the first new "Star Trek" movie in nearly a decade and came away from it thinking about how you need to see more of one awkward-charming Chameloid in particular, you're not alone. The "Star Trek"-loving /Film staff are also unanimously endeared to Quasi, the nerdy, shapeshifting character played by Sam Richardson in the new Paramount+ film "Star Trek: Section 31."

Easily one of the most iconic Autobots in the Transformers franchise is Bumblebee, who's been around since the days of Generation 1. Now, a 2010s variant of the character is getting a new, more cartoon-accurate action figure.
Third-party company Iron Warrior is known for its takes on Transformers characters, and a new Bumblebee toy is an upcoming part of its lineup. Based on the hero's depiction in Transformers: Prime, this non-transforming action figure is the perfect representation of his robot mode in the series. With the intended release date in a few months, fans will want to order theirs now so it can roll out on time.

A series finale offers a show one last chance to make a grand statement about its core themes while offering a send-off to its main characters. However, just like a pilot episode, not all series finales are created equal, with some managing to stick the landing while others are dead on arrival. This certainly applies to the Star Trek franchise, which has steadily released several television series since its start in 1966. While Star Trek has provided fans with some of the best finales in TV history, other shows in the franchise have stumbled across the finish line.
In some cases, Star Trek shows have ended without their finale being planned to conclude a series run, with the cancelation decision made either during or after production. These finales are noticeably less satisfactory than the other series that have a planned coda, paying off on years of storytelling. But when Star Trek pulls off a solid finale,...

What's the best superhero TV show? Satirical gorefest "The Boys" has been a smash hit, and in 2024, Marvel Studios released one of its best projects ever with "X-Men '97." But for a lot of other geeks, the answer to this question is still one of the classics.
For as much stock as you can put in IMDb, the site's list of highest user-rated TV shows puts "Batman: The Animated Series" in 24th place. With a rating of 9/10, it's the highest ranking superhero program on the list. "Batman" is also the sixth-highest ranking animated series after "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (which also featured Mark Hamill voicing a super-villain), "Bluey," "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood," "Rick and Morty," and "Attack on Titan."
Created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, "Batman: The Animated Series" debuted in 1992 and ran for 85 episodes. The show spawned a whole DC Animated Universe,...

Robot zombies? It could happen, and often did in "Transformers: Prime."
Since "Transformers" has been remade so many times over the past 40 years, new cartoons will sometimes use a central gimmick to set themselves apart from the crowd. "Beast Wars" had robots that transformed into animals instead of vehicles. The 2003 anime series "Transformers: Armada" cashed in on the "Pokémon" craze and had the Autobots and Decepticons fighting over "Mini-Cons," human-sized Transformers that could unlock great powers in the larger ones. The currently airing "Transformers: Earthspark" has introduced a new batch of characters called the "Terrans," who are Transformers created on Earth instead of the metal planet Cybertron.
For the 2010-2013 cartoon "Transformers: Prime," the gimmick was Dark Energon. "Energon" is the Transformers' primary fuel source, and the literal lifeblood of their creator, Primus. Dark Energon (which glows a sickly purple instead of crystal blue) is the blood of Primus' shadow self,...

Star Trek will never have a cast as expansive as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's again. At the heart of Star Trek are the scores of beloved characters that generations of fans have come to adore. From noble Captains like James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), and Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), to the multitudes of Starfleet Officers and alien characters populating Star Trek's ever-growing universe, it's the people and their stories that keep audiences coming back for more. No Star Trek show, however, could match the impressively massive cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ran for seven seasons in syndication from 1993-1999. The first spinoff of Star Trek: The Next Generation, DS9 broke Star Trek's established mold centering on the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. On "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) served as the first officer on board the U.S.S. Enterprise-d. Unlike the taciturn and serious Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), Commander Riker was gregarious and approachable. He won over his crew's loyalty by being friendly, open and, in the words of a visiting tactician, jocular. He was also sold as the show's central heartthrob, as he was tall, trim, and handsome.

In the years since he was first cast as Starfleet officer William T. Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Jonathan Frakes has become an integral part of the "Star Trek" franchise not only as an actor but also as a director, shaping things behind-the-scenes. Back when the role was being cast in the late 1980s, however, Frakes wasn't the first pick for the roguishly handsome first officer. In fact, he was actually up against some other very talented performers.
In the end, though, it all worked out and Frakes ended up playing the guy who simply cannot sit in a chair the way it was designed (as "Star Trek: Lower Decks" once poked fun at). Still, things could have been very different on "The Next Generation" if one of the other actors in the running had secured the part. In fact, the person who almost took the role and...

There are certain types of media that could have only come from one person. Something so specific and out there that only a beautiful, twisted mind like director Frank Henenlotter could have conjured it. Today, we’re talking about one of those movies. A movie that answered a question we’ve all asked at some point in our lives… ”What if Frankenstein were a hooker?” This is the story of what happened to Frankenhooker.
Director Frank Henenlotter hit the streets of New York City for his follow up to Brain Damage and Basket Case with a hankering for something different this time around. His newest film would stay in and around the horror genre of course but would lean further into the comedy aspect of his writing prowess. The idea of which came from an improvisation that took place at a pitch meeting for an entirely different film. According to Henenlotter,...

Jeffrey Combs is, perhaps, the greatest Star Trek star to never be a part of any show's regular cast. Whether done up in Andorian blue, Ferengi orange, or Vorta purple, Jeffrey Combs has played ten different characters throughout Star Trek. Although frequently covered in large amounts of prosthetics, Combs's voice and mannerisms make him unmistakable in 1990s Star Trek, as well as his one appearance (so far) in modern Trek. Each of Jeffrey Combs' Star Trek characters has been iconic in their own way, but Jeffrey Combs has played a few characters whose popularity, and infamy, set them above his other performances.
In Star Trek: Enterprise, Combs appeared as Commander Thy'lek Shran in the Andorian Imperial Guard. When he first met Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), Commander Shran was an antagonist figure, but through repeated contact with Captain Archer, Combs's Enterprise Commander Shran became an integral force in the creation of the Federation.

While "Star Trek," across its growing number of shows and movies, depicts a hopeful vision of the future, it's not without its formidable enemies. From opposing interstellar empires to shadowy figures within Starfleet, there are plenty of nefarious villains littered throughout the franchise's history. The best kinds of enemies aren't just villain-of-the-week adversaries for the various "Star Trek" stories, but present menace to the main characters. And in a future full of hyper-competent heroes, it stands to reason that their antagonists must be equally cunning, with the more memorable ones causing a costly victory.
With over 60 years of television and film history, there is quite the catalog of "Star Trek" villains to choose from. With that in mind, there are only a handful that rise above the rest as the definitive antagonists that each gave Starfleet's bravest and boldest the fight of their lives. In Peter Jackson's 2001 fantasy epic "The Lord of he Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," actor John Rhys-Davies played the role of Gimli the Dwarf, an axe-wielding warrior who served as a gruff, comedic counterpoint to the otherwise po-faced and poised characters. Rhys-Davies reprised the role in the two follow-up films, as well as in several "Lord of the Rings" spinoff video games. He also played ancillary characters like Gloin and Treebeard. His association with "Lord of the Rings" would be an impressive pop milestone for any actor, but Rhys-Davies has also enjoyed a hugely long career with appearances in dozens of other notable pop properties over several decades.
In addition to "Lord of the Rings," Rhys-Davies has costarred in several Indiana Jones movies (including "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"), voiced characters in high-profile Disney films, and acted in dozens of fun horror movies and adventure flicks.

By and large, the 2010s proved to be a superb decade for the horror genre. Following in the footsteps of some of the finest horror movies of all time, the decade played host to a number of standout offerings from one of cinema's oldest genres. The original Watchmen graphic novel was first published monthly through 1986 and 1987, before being compiled into a single volume in 1987. The comic was written by famed author Alan Moore, illustrated by artist Dave Gibbons and published by DC Comics. In the years since, Watchmen has had three major adaptations – a theatrical live action film directed by Zack Snyder in 2009, an HBO miniseries set in the universe of the comic in 2019, and most recently, an animated two-part film released this year.

The 1990s were a golden era for straight-to-video horror films. While these productions often had limited budgets and resources, they compensated with creativity, bold storytelling, and memorable scares. Here’s a countdown of just Some of the straight-to-video horror gems from that decade.

The villain who everyone remembers from "Star Trek Into Darkness" is Khan "John Harrison" Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch). In the Kelvin timeline film, Khan's wrath is focused not on James T. Kirk, but on Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller).
Marcus, who's a warhawk and head of intelligence division Section 31, wants Starfleet to bring the Klingon Empire to heel. In the original "Star Trek" timeline, it was the Enterprise crew (in the classic episode "Space Seed") who discovered Khan and his other human "augment" followers. These superhumans had tried to conquer Earth in the 20th century, but were driven out and escaped Earth aboard the SS Botany Bay, going into cryosleep to weather the passing of time.
In the Kelvin timeline, Marcus reawakens Khan and puts him to work designing weapons, holding his other augment followers hostage. Khan escapes and wages a one-man war against Starfleet before fleeing to the Klingon homeworld Qo'noS.

Did Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) have any special Borg powers in Star Trek: Voyager? Many of Star Trek's alien characters have special abilities that set them apart from humans. Star Trek: The Original Series started this trend by establishing Vulcans' telepathic abilities with Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy). Star Trek: The Next Generation characters with superpowers, like the empathic half-Betazoid Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), outnumber those without. Even humans can have enhanced abilities with the aid of technology, like Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge's (LeVar Burton) Visor granting him the ability to see much more of the electromagnetic spectrum.

It's a direct from-page-to-screen retelling of this dark & complex story about a group of superheroes with too much power. Voices of Titus Welliver as Rorschach, Rick D. Wasserman as The Comedian, Katee Sackhoff as Silk Spectre II,...
