Disney has announced that Rachel Zegler’s live-action adaptation will be available to rent or purchase on digital platforms on May 13, with physical media releases including 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD all going on sale on June 24. Thanks to Harlan Coben and Netflix's continuing collaboration, we've been treated to a series of gripping adaptations that have kept audiences hooked with their mix of mystery, drama, and pulse-pounding suspense. That's significantly newer than the weirdly regressive A Working Man, but where that had Sylvester Stallone and David Ayer moderating, this finds ways to be more sexist, and, if anything, more nihilistic.

The book it's based on is by Robert Littel, he's previously had work adapted for television, but neither Legend (starring Sean Bean as various undercover identities) nor The Company (with an even longer list of recognisable names). Littel's one of the lesser known but much loved figures of spy literature, a genre unto itself. John LeCarre attributed much of his success to being an alternative to Ian Fleming. A Working Man is yet another outing for a particular flavour of retributive escapism. Like Death Wish, Die Hard, and (Rambo) First Blood it's based on a novel, but what's astonishing is that despite tonal similarities to works from the 1970s the source novel is from 2014.

This review was delayed in part because I wanted to track down a copy. The film having been produced (and co-written) by Sylvester Stallone, I wondered how much of Chuck Dixon's novel Levon's Trade had made the transition to screen. I wondered how much of its regressive tendencies had been added. Among the film's bad habits there's the obligatory dead wife, the fetishisation of special forces, as with Taken the complications inherent in the layered politics of human trafficking, some queer-coded villainy and almost inevitably lockstep adherence to the monomyth of the hero's journey.

Jason Statham’s new movie is finally set to exit theaters soon after grossing only $300,000 at the box office this weekend, but another of his more recent flicks has become a streaming hit. Statham stars alongside Hugh Grant and Aubrey Plaza in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, the spy thriller following an elite espionage agent (Statham) who recruits a movie star to help him stop the sale of a dangerous weapon. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre hit Peacock on April 28, and less than one day later, it landed in the streamer’s top 10, sitting at #6 at the time of writing. In addition to Statham, Grant, and Plaza, Operation Fortune also stars Cary Elwes and Josh Hartnett, and it earned scores of 51% from critics and 82% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing, Snow White has grossed $85.7 million at the domestic box office and $109.4 million internationally for a worldwide total of $195.2 million. This $85.7 million in the United States is enough to push Snow White past the original Cinderella, which earned just $85 million in 1950. When factoring in inflation, Cinderella’s $85 million domestic total at the box office would amount to over $1.1 billion in 2025. Snow White will have its work cut out for it if it wants to pass another iconic fairy tale classic, Robin Hood (2010), starring Russell Crowe, which grossed $105 million domestically.

Dev Patel continues to reinvent himself as an action star after his directorial debut with Monkey Man. In Monkey Man, Patel showed off his new prowess with a buff bod and fighting skills to get revenge on the corrupt Indian politician who slaughtered his village. And it seems as that film was not a one-and-done for Patel’s new direction. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the star will write, direct, and lead The Peasant, an unconventional period action thriller from Fifth Season Productions and Thunder Road Pictures.

The film earned $271,000 on Monday, a 7% increase from last week in a market where most other movies in the top 15 all saw significant drop-offs. Actor Jason Statham and Hollywood mainstay Sylvester Stallone have collaborated on six feature films together. They starred opposite each other in four "Expendables" movies (with Statham taking the lead over Stallone for the abysmal "Expend4bles"), and Statham starred in the Stallone-scripted "Homefront" in 2013. Most recently, Stallone wrote the script for the 2025 David Ayer-directed Statham vehicle "A Working Man." The pair, one can infer, know each other's work very well.
