Iyanu is a series inspired (not directly based though) by Yoruba mythology, where the spirits of light and dark fought, leaving behind corrupted beasts that the chosen one must heal.
Conceptually, the series has merit, being a rare series based on African civilizations and mythology. It also portrays court politics accurately and the main chaarcter is likeable without being too "hyper" unlike many recent young female protagonists. The mentor in the first episode was also a mixture of motherly and harsh, which is quite a unique combination.
Where it falters is the pacing and editing, making many scenes look stilted and awkward. The animation is alright but you can see where they cut corners.
Overall a decent recommendation.

Iyanu is nothing short of a masterpiece. From the moment the story begins, it pulls you into a rich, vibrant world inspired by Yoruba mythology, where ancient powers, thrilling battles, and deep emotional arcs collide. The animation is breathtaking, the storytelling is tight and compelling, and the characters are complex and relatable especially Iyanu herself, whose journey from an ordinary orphan to a powerful warrior is both inspiring and deeply human.
What truly sets Iyanu apart is its unapologetic embrace of African culture and identity. The series doesn't just tell a fantasy story,it honors a legacy of myth and tradition while also delivering messages about courage, responsibility, and unity in a way that's accessible for all ages. The blend of magical action, mystery, and moral themes makes it a must-watch for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with a fresh, Afrocentric twist.
This series deserves to be celebrated globally. It's a landmark moment for African animation and storytelling and it's only just getting started. I cannot wait to see where Iyanu's journey goes next.

It truly saddens me to think that there are individuals out there who are currently unaware of the brilliance that is "Iyanu: Child of Wonder." To put it plainly, those who haven't yet experienced this animated masterpiece are genuinely missing out on what I consider to be peak fiction in the current landscape. You are collectively depriving yourselves of a narrative tapestry woven with threads of exceptional plot development, breathtaking and innovative animation, genuinely surprising and impactful plot twists that will leave you reeling, and a cast of characters so well-written and nuanced that they feel like old friends.
I hold a fervent hope that "Iyanu: Child of Wonder" will garner the widespread recognition and adoration it so richly deserves in the time to come. This is not merely a good show; it is a significant contribution to storytelling, and it possesses the rare quality of leaving a lasting impression long after the credits roll.
From the very outset, the series establishes a powerful and captivating tone. The initial episodes boast a remarkably strong start, immediately drawing the viewer into its vibrant world and compelling premise. The introduction to the characters and the central conflict is handled with grace and precision, expertly setting the stage for the adventures to come. Furthermore, the soundtrack that accompanies the visuals is nothing short of phenomenal, seamlessly blending with the animation and narrative to elevate the overall viewing experience to new heights. It's a holistic package where every element works in perfect harmony to create something truly special.

I think the series is a good one, and it is worth a watch. I was not expecting anything from it, because I went into it with no expectations, and I'm glad that I did, because I was pleasantly surprised. The characters, the world-building, are well constructed. The villains are recognizable, I don't want to say predictable but I the patterns and how they think are familiar, but the show maintains its own elements of surprise to keep the audience wondering. The shows animation could be better but I give it grace. Animation is a hard medium and this is season 1. With time and patience and a larger budget things can improve for season 2. The story is good and deserves a chance but that's only if we give it one. It has potential.
