Jan “Jack” Turnbull, a longtime Los Angeles acting coach and teacher who founded the Actorsite studio for children and adults in 1998, died of complications from Covid-19 on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 72.

While it would be just Sue Sue Heck's luck to get cancelled, ABC has renewed The Middle TV series for an eighth season. It must be Axl's mojo at work. The network announced The Middle would be returning for the 2016-17 television season, as one of fifteen TV show renewals.

The Performance | Henry, the Madam Secretary character most often relegated to the role of Elizabeth’s biggest supporter and emotional ballast, spent this week’s episode acting out his fury, frustration and grief over Dmitri’s death. It was a spectacularly bad day for Prof. McCord, relayed via a strong performance from Daly.

Given the McCords’ usual closeness, it was jarring to watch Daly create distance between Henry and his secretary of state spouse, whom he blamed for the death of an operative he’d been handling.

In the spring, it looked like The Middle might be cancelled after six seasons on the air but ABC ended up renewing it after all. Could this be the final year for the sitcom or, will it be renewed for season eight? Stay tuned.

Family sitcoms aren’t exactly thin on the ground, so finding a new spin on the format is always going to take some work. Originally intended as a vehicle for Ricki Lake, The Middle is a case in point. After several years in development, it finally aired in autumn 2009 with a new lead: Patricia Heaton, one of the stars of hugely popular show Everybody Loves Raymond. Writers Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline had previously been responsible for Roseanne, so the track records of all involved boded well for the series’ prospects.
