Cooper Hefner’s $100 million bid for Playboy received a complication Thursday, with owner Plby Group saying that its board rejected the offer.
“After careful review and consideration of Hefner’s unsolicited proposal, our Board determined that the proposal substantially undervalues the Playboy assets and is not in the best interest of Plby Group’s stockholders,” said Plby Group CEO Ben Kohn. “While we certainly understand and are appreciative of the interest in Playboy’s unparalleled brand, the Board is confident that the Company’s continuing pursuit of its Playboy-focused, asset-light model will better support long-term value for stockholders. The Board will continue to evaluate all options and opportunities for Playboy.”
The company said the board decision was unanimous.
On Monday, Hefner — the son of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner — approached the board with the $100 million all cash offer, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the pursuit was a personal one.

Playboy is in play.
Cooper Hefner, the son of the late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, is making a $100 million bid to acquire the intellectual property and brand assets of Playboy Enterprises from its publicly traded parent company, Plby Group.
The $100 million all-cash offer includes a residual interest in the new company, giving equity holders a chance to recoup their value. Plby Group ended last week with a market cap of $53.5 million.
Hefner says that his private equity firm Hefner Capital made the outreach to the Plby board Monday. He tells The Hollywood Reporter that his pursuit of Playboy is a personal one.
“The decision to acquire Playboy’s assets stems from a personal connection and the unique potential to reinvigorate a brand cared for around the world,” Hefner says. “This effort is about safeguarding a legacy built over decades, ensuring that the creativity, values and cultural relevance that defined Playboy are not lost.

Nearly everyone, especially if you are a male over the age of 18, knows about the legacy of Playboy Magazine, one of the most iconic adult publications in history. Created by Hugh Hefner, the magazine is still in publication and titles itself the Gentlemen’s Magazine, which basically created the genre of artistic nudity and sensual expression into the mainstream media.

Long before Jenny McCarthy launched into her current roles as SiriusXM talk show host and “celebrity detective” on “The Masked Singer”, she was best known as one of Playboy‘s most popular Playmates, appearing on six Playboy covers over the years.
McCarthy, however, was conspicuous by her absence from “Secrets of Playboy”, the recent A&e docuseries that painted a dark picture of Hugh Hefner’s empire, with numerous women sharing allegations of misconduct at the famed Playboy Mansion.
During a recent appearance on the “#NoFilter with Zack Peter” podcast, as reported by TooFab, McCarthy revealed that producers envisioned her in a major role in the docuseries.

Nearly 40 years ago, Hugh Hefner’s former personal butler wrote a memoir about his time working at the Playboy Mansion. The book has remained unpublished — until now.
“The Dark Secrets of Playboy,” from Around the Way Publishing, will tell the story of Stefan Tetenbaum’s experiences as Hefner’s butler in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The memoir is now available digitally on Amazon and Kindle.
Tetenbaum’s memoir and personal accounts of what he witnessed while working for Hefner also inspired the recent A&e docuseries, “Secrets of Playboy,” which examines Hefner’s empire through the lens of the #MeToo era. (Tetenbaum also appeared on-camera in the docuseries.)
“My story at the Playboy Mansion West during the peak years [of] 1978-80s was an extraordinary period of Playboy Enterprises’ power and fame,” Tetenbaum says in a statement, exclusive to Variety. “Working alongside Hefner gave me incredible insight into the...

Hugh Hefner was revolutionary. Praised for his part in the sexual revolution of the 1960s, the Playboy founder was ahead of his time as an early proponent of gay rights, abortion and birth control. He was progressive with inclusion at his company when racism was rampant.
But, according to a new docuseries, Hefner was also a monster — one who would drug women, coerce them into sex, secretly record them in the bedroom and use his power and connections to blacklist and silence them into fear.
A&e’s 10-part “Secrets of Playboy,” which is airing Monday nights and had the network’s biggest premiere since Leah Remini’s Scientology series in 2016, re-examines Hefner and his Playboy Enterprises through the lens of 2022.

Washington — The White House Correspondents Dinner has for years been about much more than the event itself: News organizations, internet firms and Washington power players have for years held their own fetes on days and nights surrounding the dinner.
This year is no exception. The arrival of Donald Trump’s administration to Washington also marked the end of some long-time parties, like a New Yorker bash and a Time-People party, but others have started. This year, Playboy is sponsoring an after-dinner “No Tie” party, hosted by Cooper Hefner, at a downtown D.C. location. The media outlet said it will mark its commitment to the First Amendment and a free press.
Other highlights of the weekend:
Thursday:
Bytes and Bylines — Allen Gannett, Eric Kuhn, John McCarthy, Susanna Quinn and Jon Steinberg host their annual event, along with Cheddar, this year at the residence of Ireland’s ambassador to the U.
