- The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) was started by the Urban Council, Hong Kong in 1977. From this year onward, the festival will be organized by the newly established Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The festival is a member of F.I.A.P.F. (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) and it is a 16-day non-competitive festival organized during the easter holidays annually. Since its inception, the festival has been highly regarded as the showcase of asian cinema and a platform of Hong Kong cinema retrospective. (from the festival's web site, 2000)
