“Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” is rounding out its cast with all stars. Jameela Jamil, Terry Crews, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, Bill Nye and Meredith MacNeill have been added to the third feature film alongside franchise veteran Ron Pardo.

The movie will release theatrically on July 31, 2026, and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures worldwide, excluding Canada where Elevation Pictures distributes.

When it comes to allowing people to show off their fandoms in style, Loungefly has us covered. Unless of course you are a Star Trek fan.

While Loungefly has no problem making some of the cutest mini backpacks, crossbodies and wallets for fandoms such as Disney, Star Wars, Harry Potter and even Garfield, sadly Star Trek is being left out in the cold. And we certainly did a search to see if there had ever been a Loungefly x Star Trek collaboration, with little success. Sony Pictures is using Roblox to help introduce Karate Kid: Legends to today’s younger audience. The original Karate Kid came out in 1984, and many of its fans are now adults. But with a new movie coming soon, Sony wants to get Gen Z and Gen Alpha interested, and what better place than Roblox, a platform where kids and teens spend a lot of their time?

To do this, Sony is partnering with Gamefam, a company that makes games in the “metaverse” and focuses on younger players. Together, they’ve created a new Roblox experience called the Karate Kid Training Simulator, which launches on May 2.

The game comes out just before the new movie’s release on May 30 in the U.S. and Canada.

The Karate Kid came out in 1984; sequels followed in 1986, ’89 and 1994. If you saw any of those films in theaters, you’re probably not playing Roblox. (The Karate Kid remake in 2010, with a completely new set of characters, doesn’t really apply here.) Paramount Pictures has added a third “Angry Birds Movie” to its release slate, setting it for January 29, 2027.

Paramount takes over as distributor from Sony Pictures, which released the first “Angry Birds Movie” from Rovio Animation in 2016, grossing $352 million worldwide. The film yielded a 2019 sequel that didn’t fly nearly as high with $152.2 million, though insiders at Paramount say that the films have seen robust viewership on streaming over the past five years.

Rovio returns as producers on the film with Sega, which acquired Rovio and “Angry Birds” in 2023 and which has partnered with Paramount on the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films. Namit Malhotra will also produce through his company Prime Focus Studios, in partnership with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and

Dentsu. Dneg, the animation studio behind “The Garfield Movie,” “Nimona” and the upcoming “The Cat in the Hat,” will animate the film.

One post-credits scene introduced a new incarnation of the Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon, and the other teased the possibility of a solo Star-Lord adventure, with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) returning to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather.

Director James Gunn has previously addressed that final "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return" title card, and it there are (or were) indeed tentative plans in place for a spin-off focusing on Quill's effort to adapt to life back on Terra.

Tim Allen has been a successful actor for decades, primarily making his name in comedy and children's entertainment. He's known for his time on the sitcoms Home Improvement and Last Man Standing and voicing Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise. And, of course, we can't forget when he took on the role of St. Nick himself in the Santa Clause movies. He even played an excellent villain.

By all accounts, a kid's superhero flick would fit nicely into Allen's repertoire. He may not be the first name that comes to mind when picturing a crime-fighting, world-saving, tights-wearing hero, but the concept for his 2006 movie Zoom: Academy for Superheroes had all the right ingredients to be a success — a leader with a dark past, a team of kids with superpowers to train, and an enemy to conquer.

Nicholas Hoult has been on a bit of a run of late. The announcement will take place starting at 5:30 a.m. Pt on Thursday in a live presentation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The two actor-writer-comedians will announce nominees in all 24 Oscar categories. The announcement will also be live streamed globally on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and the Academy’s digital platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook). It will also be broadcast on ABC’s Good Morning America and stream on ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu.

Sennott’s credits include Jason Reitman’s film Saturday Night, which goes behind the scenes of the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live in 1975. Yang, meanwhile, currently stars on NBC’s SNL.

Following the release of the Daredevil: Born Again poster, Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3, featuring Tom Hardy's Venom, gets the Marvel Cinematic Universe-style treatment. Ever since his return in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, many Marvel fans have been crossing their fingers that Sony Pictures will resurrect Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 movie, which was initially going to happen after his 2014 sequel. Currently, Sony Pictures has not announced any official plans yet for Garfield's Peter Parker to get another solo film.

Even if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 isn't on the table for the foreseeable future, fans are still pitching ideas for what a hypothetical Garfield-led sequel could focus on if it ever happens. The total box office at German cinemas in 2024 fell almost 8% year-on-year, according to provisional figures from Comscore.

Overall ticket sales totalled €792.5m, down 7.8% on 2023’s € 859m, while total admissions slipped year-on-year by 7.3% from 87.2m to 80.9m.

This compared to the 23.7% year-on-year increase in box-office takings and 18.5% in admissions that had been posted between 2022 and 2023.

In a major push into animation, media tech investment firm Stars Collective is partnering with Shanghai-based El Pajaro Pictures to develop, produce and distribute a fresh take on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic “The Little Prince.”

“The Little Prince” weaves a poetic tale of a young prince who travels from planet to planet, meeting eccentric characters that offer allegorical insights into human nature. Narrated by a stranded aviator, the story unfolds as the prince recounts his adventures and his quest to understand life’s deeper truths.

The novella has inspired several adaptations. The 1974 live-action musical, directed by Stanley Donen, captured its whimsy, while Mark Osborne’s 2015 animated feature blended CGI and stop-motion and proved there’s still magic in the property, pulling in $97 million worldwide, including $24 million from China. The Far Side has made a name for itself as one of the best comic strips of all time, as its humor is smart and witty (with just the right amount of absurdity) and its artwork is unique and visually comical. Not only that, but The Far Side stands out from other popular comic strips for a number of reasons. For one thing, it’s not a comic ‘strip’ at all; it’s a single-panel comic. And for another, The Far Side doesn’t feature a main character or any semblance of long-form continuity.

The things that make The Far Side stand out are what make it so popular, especially the fact that it changes its characters with every passing comic. That difference from other iconic comic strips is how The Far Side is able to feature some truly wacky subjects, like animals, aliens, trees, bugs, trains, cowboys, and even God Himself.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aren't taking any prisoners this year, as they've just announced that, of the 323 films eligible for Oscar nominations this year, a whopping 116 of those have already been excluded from the Best Picture category. Throughout 2024, fans were accruing their own lists of potential Best Picture nominees. But, your list could be drastically cut short by the new ruling from The Academy.

The official numbers are in for UK cinema takings in 2024, and for the second time since the first lockdowns of 2020, the total number eclipsed the £1bn mark. This is still a fair way down from the £1.35bn of 2019, but a fair way up from the £597m of 2021.

According to official numbers released by Comscore in the UK, the number of new cinema releases increased over 2023, from 1015 to 1114, and the number of what are declared ‘saturation’ releases (think: shedloads of screens) was up from 176 to 200 (higher even than 2019).

The total take in cinemas was a smidge down on 2023, falling around £3m, which in the grand scheme of things is negligible when the overall number is measured in billions. Very cautious optimism might even be allowed.

Palak Patel, the EVP behind the “Venom” trilogy at Columbia Pictures, is exiting Sony after a 10 year stint.

The former exec has been named Cco for Prime Focus Studios, the finance and production arm of visual effects powerhouse Dneg, according to the Hollywood Reporter which first reported the news.

Patel helped to oversee the “Venom” trilogy, which grossed over $1.8 billion collectively, among other films at Columbia.

Prime Focus Studios recently co-produced “The Garfield Movie” with Alcon Entertainment for Sony Pictures. This animated adventure has grossed more than $257 million to date at the global box office. The company is currently in production on an exciting slate of projects, including “Animal Friends,” “The Angry Birds Movie 3,” and “Ramayana.”

“I’ve known Namit for over a decade, and we’ve worked together on many films through Dneg, arguably the best VFX company in the world,” Patel said in a statement to The Wrap.

Updated Exclusive: Sony Pictures EVP of Production and Development Palak Patel is leaving the Culver City lot for a new gig as Chief Content Officer at Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.

Prime Focus recently co-produced The Garfield Movie with Alcon Entertainment for Sony Pictures, grossing more than $257 million at the worldwide box office.

Prime Focus Studios was founded by Dneg CEO Malhotra to finance and produce films, TV series and other content at major studios, as well as independently. It is currently in production on Animal Friends, The Angry Birds Movie 3, and Ramayana.

Patel has been at Sony for the last 10 years, and played a key role in the $1.8 billion-grossing Venom franchise as well as Morbius.

Patel came to Sony in August 2015 as part of a motion picture group realignment by chairman Tom Rothman and then Sony Pictures Entertainment Group president Doug Belgrad.

There are 323 feature films eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday, though a whopping 36% of those – 116 feature films – are not eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category.

The discrepancy between films that have qualified for the top category and films that are eligible in other categories comes either because the filmmakers did not attempt to qualify – likely the case for several documentary, animated or international films. Or because of new eligibility rules that require Best Picture candidates to meet additional benchmarks for diversity and inclusion. This is the second year that Representation and Inclusion Standards (Raise) have been enforced, though they did not appear to disqualify any serious contenders in the category.

Heathcliff is beloved by those who know the comic, but the strip arguably doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves. First published in 1973, at a time when Peanuts was at its peak, and Doonesbury was doing Pulitzer-prize winning work, Heathcliff was created and illustrated by George Gately until 1998; since then, it has been the product of his nephew Peter Gallagher.

While Heathcliff was always odd, it has become especially weird in the Gallagher years, which have grown increasingly absurd, keeping pace with the increasingly surreal style of internet humor.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was one of the last major tentpole releases of 2024. There has been a social media war between factions of Maga recently, and Elon Musk weighed in with an odd post. Entertainment Weekly reports that the post on Twitter (currently X) was "part of an ongoing argument among supporters of President-elect Donald Trump about the value of immigration visas." The post was made in support of his argument for H-1B visas, which allow a certain number of skilled overseas workers to be employed in America. "We named @Tesla after Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest engineers ever," wrote Musk. "He was a penniless immigrant whose inventions led to American dominance in electricity generation and usage." However, Musk posted a photo of the actor Nicholas Hoult rather than a photo of the inventor himself.

Mufasa: The Lion King started slow at the box office but has shown a good hold in the United States. The film has yet to reach the $100 million mark domestically and has achieved a new milestone worldwide, surpassing the global haul of Joker: Folie a Deux, aka Joker 2. According to reports, the Disney sequel was made on an estimated budget of $200 million and has now recovered it during the second weekend. Meanwhile, Joker 2 was one of the most-anticipated movies of the year but turned out to be one of the biggest box-office duds. It is the sequel to the 2019 movie Joker, which held the record of the highest-grossing R-rated film until it was broken by Deadpool & Wolverine.

After opening last weekend with $60 million to claim the top spot at the domestic box office, more than $20 million ahead of Mufasa: The Lion King, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has kept running to a major box office list. The video game adaptation has netted another $27 million over Christmas week, bringing its domestic total to $87 million and making it one of the top 25 highest-grossing movies of the year in the U.S. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had to move past Mean Girls ($72 million) and Longlegs ($72 million) to reach the top 25, and the film is now only $4 million behind The Garfield Movie ($91 million) and $5 million behind The Fall Guy ($92 million), which it will certainly get and then some during its second weekend in theaters.

According to Deadline, Josh Flanagan and Pej Vahdat will co-direct the original comedy mockumentary Pickleheads, starring Harvey Guillén and Adrianne Palicki. Vahdat, who also acts in the film, will make his feature-length directorial debut with Pickleheads after appearing in featured roles on hit shows such as Jeff Bridges' The Old Man, Empire, and Bones. Other cast members include Kristine Froseth, Eric Nelsen, Ryan Cooper, Lindsey Morgan, Sam Humphrey, and Jared Bonner.

Media tech investment firm Stars Collective and visual effects powerhouse Dneg are joining forces to bring immersive theater experiences to the Chinese market. The partnership aims to develop, produce and operate virtual reality and immersive theater venues across China, with plans to expand into Southeast Asia and North America.

Dneg, the seven-time Oscar-winning VFX house behind “Dune: Part Two” and “Oppenheimer,” will provide technology, IP rights, financing and content creation services. Stars Collective, along with partners Meilin Culture and Xinghan Interactive, has already established dozens of offline experience stores in China and plans to reach 100 locations worldwide by 2025.

The deal includes backing from Pathbender Media Holdings’ Mint Fund, which has created “Mint Fund – Stars” to support projects across immersive experiences, live-action, animation, gaming, and visual effects.

It’s not the best streamer when it comes to Christmas movies, but there are some hidden gems.

Like many relatively new streaming services, Peacock doesn’t have nearly the library of holiday films as some of the larger, more established platforms. However, it is not completely bereft of quality options. The romantic comedy “A Nice Indian Boy,” starring Karan Soni (“Deadpool”) and Jonathan Groff is getting a nationwide theatrical release.

Levantine Films and Wayfarer Studios, which produced the film, have tapped Blue Harbor Entertainment to handle U.S. distribution, with a theatrical release date set for April 4.
