Honest review after bingeing the whole series after thinking I'd only watch one episode! .

Ok so anyone that rates this a 1/10 without even seeing a single episode should get barred from 'reviewing' anything! Trust me, there is someone if you look. Utterly ridiculous!

This show definitely has Ash Vs Evil Dead vibes and Tucker and Dale vs Evil, oh, and maybe Preacher too. It's a 'light' horror with splashes of humour, mixed in with plenty of gore. It's a fun show to watch.

I don't want to say anymore than that, it's best just to give Episode 1 a go like I did.... and then 4 hours later I'd watched the lot, and was typing a review.

Kevin Bacon is excellent as the lead character Hub. The rest of the main characters are great too. Oh, and there's even some nice Country music I liked, and I'm not a fan normally.

It's well acted, good cinematography , great effects, and a high end production. It's a fun ride if you like horror that makes you smile rather than hide behind a cushion. Ok, so some of the dialogue is a bit cheesy but if you stick with it you'll notice a definite difference from episode 5 on.

I would absolutely watch Season 2 if it gets commissioned. Let's hope enough people enjoy it that it does. I'd probably rate it above 7 but not an 8 so that's why I scored it as I did.

The episodes are short so maybe just try it out and see what you think. For a show I'd never heard about, it was a pleasant surprise, and you can't really go wrong with Kevin Bacon who looks great for a guy that's 66 believe it or not!

A gory good time.

If you were a fan of Ash vs Evil Dead (or even the largely forgotten and underrated Reaper) then this show is for you. Kevin Bacon stars as Hub Halloran, a bail bondsman resurrected and returned to Earth from Hell to serve as The Devils bounty hunter.

Nothing earth shakingly original here, but the show overcomes this with great performances from Bacon and in particular from Beth Grant as his elderly (but still full of fight) mother. Bacon plays up the rough, laconic charm of Hub, but his interactions with his Mum are surprisingly sweet...as they hunt demons together. In amongst the severed limbs and geysers of blood there's a nice family dynamic to balance out all the splattery violence.

Good ol' comfort TV

I don't typically write reviews. On the contrary, I typically leave it to others. But the polarized nature of the reviews currently given to this show have inspired me to give a, perhaps, more nuanced take.

The Good: For one, this show is easy to watch. The short episode run-times mean you can watch an episode or two without committing a huge amount of time, e.g. When you're commuting.

Additionally, the plot is easy to follow, but likewise engaging enough to where it'll keep you interested - hence why I call it "comfort TV".

Thirdly, it's got a great soundtrack, which is well balanced and feels thought out. Definitely a plus that adds to the overall experience.

The VFX are pretty good, too. Don't expect excellence, but it's certainly a far improvement from what most such shows had 10-15 years ago.

The Bad: The acting is far from phenomenal. It's not terrible, but don't expect any Oscar-worthy performances, either.

It's also not a show for die-hard mythology fans, the mythological elements are kept pretty simple, and don't go on a deep dive. This may be an upside to some, though, as (again) it makes the show easy to follow.

Also, the sub-plots aren't super deep, and can at times feel a bit forced, but overall they're just ok.

Overall: I'd say the show is definitely worth a watch. The plot is engaging enough to where you want to keep watching, and it's a fun experience. I'm interested to see where season 2 goes with the premise.

It's been done before but it's still OK

Those whose memory is able to extend back to 1999 will immediately recognize the "inspiration" for The Bondsman. Okay, a direct copy is the better comparison. In Brimstone , Peter Horton was a New York City police detective, who was sent to Hell because he took pleasure in killing his wife's rapist. John Glover, the Devil, gave the detective a chance at a second life if he would return 113 demons who escaped from Hell.

The Bondsman is still a bingeworthy program, and I really like the mother and son dynamics as they play off each other in the course of returning demons to Hell. Unfortunately, there's no one streaming the original concept in Brimstone, and it isn't available on DVD or Blu-ray. Those who like and enjoy The Bondsman, would really appreciate Brimstone. Still, it's a pleasant watch in its own right and it deserves a second season.

Loved it!

Binged all 8 episodes in one go.

Was looking forward to it, after seeing the trailer and was not disapointed.

Dark, a lot of gore, some humor and very good special effects.

Loved the caracters (and very well played) Kevin Bacon is perfect for this role.

Loved his "mama bear" and the coordinator.

Only reasons i didnt give a 10 are; The episodes are only 30 minuites long, still not sure how i feel about that. For this season it worked, but i hope that they will be a little longer next season.

Me personally would have loved to have more background story and lore of the demons.

Cant wait until season two! Hope it Will not take long.

Will never be a classic, but better than average

It's good to see Kevin Bacon back. He is no doubt having fun with this role. It's a low budget special with not much at stake. It mostly works because Bacon and Beth Grant, who plays his mother, play it straight and drag the rest of the cast along with them.

Beth especially is having a blast. She is the glue holding this thing together. If you have watched (the much superior) Stan Against Evil, you know what they are trying to do.

Whenever the family angle crops up with the ex and son...the bottom drops out. Whiny yet wise beyond their years teens...kill pretty much every vibe.

Frankly, with the absolute garbage that's being released, this one seems like a bit of a gem...or at least you probably won't feel like your time was totally wasted if you watch a few episodes all the way thru.

It's harmless, ok, time killing. Sometimes...that's enough.

So far, so good

I've yet to see anything with Kevin Bacon in it that wasn't worth watching, so we're off to a good start, especially with the addition of Jennifer Nettles to the cast.

The premise is not original; Reaper, Brimstone, The Dresden Files, Constntine, Wynnona Earp and Evil have all trodden this path. There are probably a few I've forgotten about. So now new ground is being broken here, but it's a fun ride all the same. It's not billed as a comedy but, in a similar way to Evil, it has comic elements which help to lighten the mood a little. Without these moments of lightness the gore and dark tone would probably be a bit too much, so the writers have done a good job of balancing the tone.

A Ton of B Movie Fun

Bondsman is a show that utilizes a modest budget, a simple premise and Kevin Bacon to full effect. The episodes are all 30 minutes long, don't overstay their welcome and are typically entertaining throughout. The characters are endearing enough and there is enough drama, albeit cliched, to add family tension each episode.

Loved Kevin Bacon as a kid watching him in one of my favorite B movies, Tremors, and Kevin still has it in him to hold the screen. He kicks a lot of Demons butts with a good mix of practical/CGI gore to satisfy the horror fans. There is a lot of moments where I found myself chuckling along the absurdity of the story line.

Bondsman is a nice surprise. It's not overly demanding, deep or intelligent by any means. Yet fans of B movies, Evil Dead and some fun horror action will get a kick out of Bondsman. I would give it a 7.5 overall if IMDB allowed it.

Cheesy Fun

Complete and Utter fun, Easy to Watch, Easy to keep watching. The writing is painfully cheesy but In a charming way, it feels intentional, kind of nostalgic. Deserved to have been made in the late-90's-Early 2000's, would have had a more mainstream audience.

I also forgot how much I missed the episodic formatting, 'Episode 1 Spoilers ahead' 1 Demon per episode makes it a blast to watch.

The world-building is also very interesting, I constantly want to know more about the way the world/afterlife operates. One of my only concerns is that it's only 8 20-minute episodes, but If anything; that just means that it's less of a commitment.

Fun watch and it has Kevin Bacon

I love Kevin Bacon. We were so disappointed when City on the Hill was such a great show. Bacon and Aldis Hodge were great in it.

This is very different but a fun to watch.

Glad to see Damon Herriman in this as he is a great talent. We loved his role in Justified. Who can forget the scene with the fried chicken. Having been tricked into believing his kidneys were removed, Dewey is so upset.

They buy the fried chicken and Dewey says, " I'm gonna eat this whole damn bucket!"".

I hope this show will have some funny lines as well. We have just watched two episides and will watch all of them. Check it out.

A BLOODY FUN RIDE!!

Let me start by saying exactly what my title says a fun ride. That's exactly what this is. It has comedy action a little bit of drama.

Every show does not have to be a masterpiece there needs to be shows like this. It's just pure fun to watch. Sit back chill and have a good time. That's exactly what bondsman is.

And it doesn't hurt that it's carried by All-Star cast Kevin Bacon, the legend accompanied by Jennifer Nettles, who has become a very good actress, as well as an accomplished singer . So pay no attention to the haters and low reviews. Just know that it's a very entertaining show you can just shut your brain off and watch a good ole bloody show!

Not too bad

The Bondsman" isn't too bad - it has an interesting premise and Kevin Bacon brings his usual charm to the role. But honestly, I expected more considering the Devil literally resurrects him to fight demons. With that kind of setup, you'd think he'd come back with some dark powers, a cursed weapon, or even some unholy strength. Instead, he's just... alive again. It feels like a wasted opportunity. The show has potential, but it needs to lean harder into the supernatural elements to really stand out. Right now, it's missing that extra spark to make it truly memorable. I'm missing 31 characters so here they are.

Mediocrity served hot

The concept feels like it was the first thing that came into the writer's head and they jammed it up in chatgpt to write a generic web series slop. The main character and the supporting cast has done more than a decent job but that's about it. The plotline, action sequences and dialogues are not very bad but they can be summoned up by one word- BLAND. Not even one scene stood out to me or made me go 'wooahhh that's awesome'. The background music also seemed inconsistent and annoying at times.

I guess many reviews are praising it for being average. But why?! Can someone please tell me why are we celebrating average? In this golden age of television I would advice to stay away from this absolute souless mediocrity.

Too many family problems

I love Kevin Bacon, I really do. I started to watch this show because of him.

But I stayed for his character's great mother who stole the show.

The premise looks cool: the bounty hunter has to work for the devil and hunt demons. Every episode we have this serious build up about a scary demon. Then he uses none of his superpowers and is easily killed.

The biggest problem is Hub's ex and son. They whine and whine about their past and future, who left whom, their son's talents or lack of them. Even the fact that the ex-wife's new boyfriend is Dewey Crowe from Justified is not worth all that psychological counseling.

Kitty Halloran is great, she saves the day and the show. She's like Sheldon Cooper's mom with a gun.

But is she enough? Not sure. The Bondsman is like Supernatural with boring demons and tons of family values (yes, more of that than in Supernatural itsel!)

Yeah it's good and entertaining

Yes yes yes it's a complete rip-off of the late 90's show Brimstone but with comedic overtones. But so what? As long as the material is good.....Anyway my wife and I laughed quite a bit throughout the first two eps. Bacon is perfect here ( with a few flaws LOL ) and so is Grant who's a joy to watch. Gotta say a Mom and Son team up is quite refreshing. The effects were top notch and this has a healthy slice of violence and gore for those of us who like that. The episodes are short and fast paced. Hopefully the quality of the season will continue and this will be renewed. The only caveat I see is where the heck are this duo going to get their funds from to pay bills unless of course the Mom has some significant savings. Minor quibble though. Highly recommended.

Should be better

I really, really want to love this; Demons, bounty hunters, gore and Bacon. Unfortunately this is 7 degrees of separation from great. The script is banal and considering the subject matter that's tough to pull off. The acting is mediocre from the Bacon and mother Bacon and it all rather hinges upon their dynamic. The script is just not funny enough, it's not easy being funny, but the theme really gave them a hell of a shot. I think it intends to be funny, it should be, it just doesn't quite go all in. I watched to the end and that's solely because i am core audience, this occupies the ally I live on ... oh how i wish it were better!

Excellentttttt

I'd been needing some more devil fighting shows in my life & I loved this! Definitely a must watch! Kevin Bacon always knows how to play the role. If you like Supernatural/RIPD/Grimm, this is one for you!!

I finished the entire series in a day & I need more.

The concept in itself is not entirely original but it doesn't take away from the show, it has fresh eyes & a way to explore many storylines. Some may dislike this show but it definitely met expectations I had from the trailer. Don't just watch the first & judge, it gets so good.

There's some amazing singing within the show aswell & we're lucky that Kevin can sing so well!

Spawn reimagined

Love the plot of a guy doing evil for good and having a chance to redeem himself. But the shows are too short to develop a compelling narrative z the demons are spirits that take over brandish people who are then killed in the most predictable manner. Great idea short on creativity and depth. Could do much better. The character does the odd random good deed to try win back his son. The bad guy does very little bad and dies in a fakish fireball. Deepen the story line, deepen the evil characters role and you will have a decent series with the good guys rooting for the bad guy to bead the bad guys and come back to the good side.

Buffy by Sam Rami

I'm in, half way through first episode. Kevin brings it, the dialogue is funny and clever, the fight scenes are respectfully gruesome and at one point I expected his to exclaim "This is my Boomstick!"

The sets are fake and there basic CGI, but the cast and crew are taking it seriously with their tongues firmly in their cheeks.

The premise has been done before, yet it's the cast, direction and of course script writing, set design, costume, sound etc and I'd venture that they had a smaller budget than expected.

What they've made in the first episode could give this a cult following, providing of course, that it continues to be as good, if not better.

I shall binge this immediately.

Has potential, worth a watch

All in all it's worth a watch, the first episode was a little odd but the show slowly unravels into something interesting. I do wish they went a little more in depth regarding the lore because the whole demon hunting plot is ultimately what appeals to me. Acting is OK, Bacon has definitely seen better days but I suppose its OK for the role.

There's a little subplot going on that's honestly not too shocking or interesting once it clears up, the demons seem powerful yet weak at the same time, probably due to main character plot armour. The country music is a nice touch but could've been done better.

"Ash vs the E.D " meets "Dog The Bounty hunter"

As a fan of the "supernatural " series and it being one of my all time favorite top ten TV series of all time, Bondsman isn't necessarily a unique and original theme, but what it lacks in originality it makes up for with just a really fun watch. Kevin bacon does a great job as the MC and he really does set the tone for the show. I really enjoyed it and the story was interesting, funny and leaves you wanting more. If your looking for something entertaining and are searching for a great binge watch , look no more. As I said it may not be unique but its a good show and I hope.amazon makes the right call because it deserves at least a second season.

Good pilot, can i get a show now?

Did i enjoyed The Bondman? Yes i did. But i am gonna be blunt right away and point out the elephant in the room, the streaming service show concept.

Call me old school but shows "in my days" used to be 22 episodes (sometimes 13 for "half seasons") and run for about 40 minutes + commercials. Then some "premium shows" started to appear with bigger production values like Game of Thrones wich would ran only 10 episodes (but usually of 1h each).

When streaming services started to dip into shows, i feel they cut more and more. Remember Daredevil on Netflix? 13 solid episodes. Now you get 8 to 10 episodes of any shows if you are lucky.

So by the time i watched "the season final" of The Bondsman, i felt like i had watch basically 3 episodes and the main intrigue was just starting. 8 episodes on its own is way too short for a show, but being under 30 minutes each? Ouch. It work for sitcoms but this ain't one and everything in this show felt uber rushed and could had been developed more.

The concept been done before or close to it. Remember Wynnona Earp? She had to hunt demons to break a curse. They manage to still give us 12 (13 in Season 1) episodes per seasons. It was on TV tough.

There is a bit of a paradox cause normally i would had enjoyed more a show like The Bondsman if there was already 3-4 seasons out and i could watch the whole thing, but peoples have to watch as it come out if we want more. So we do. But i just felt "teased". It felt like watching a long movie.

There was not much mystery on demons escaping and everything happened way too fast unlike an episode of Supernatural or such where the main characters need to research on the thing they hunt.

So in a nutshell it was fun, Kevin Bacon was cool, some humor landed well, the gore and cursing was nice, but i fear this is another one that may just be 1 season or if we lucky it may get another and then be cancelled. Then its gonna feel like we havn't scratch the surface of the potential it had.

I miss the good old days of "fandoms" when you could get invested in shows for years and really deep dive into them with other fans on forums because there was lot of mythos and theories.

On an end note, for fellow viewers from Quebec who watch in french, i personally didn't liked much the translation/dubbing tough. Bacon was fine but the other characters really felt like they forced a fake Quebec Accent. Especially Kitty and Lucky. Using Quebec curses in dubbed tracks was done in The Boys and it sounded great, i am not against it, but here something felt a bit off with some of the voices. That said you can always watch it in original english language or with the France dubbing.

Love Kevin but not much else

I wanted to live this show considering the subject matter. But, with as derivative as the material is, I needed to see the story go in different unique directions. Due to influences by RIPD, some show called Brimstone, Supernatural, etc I needed to see a new angle. Kevin is great, there is a potential but it didn't hook me.

The reason I needed to see the show subvert expectations is that because it didn't, you're left with a show that feels like a rip off of other things.

There is a podcast with a similar premise that has a much more interesting story called Leo Brawn. This is a show that has gone in many different directions while still retaining the fun and gory aspect. The full first season is on all available podcast platforms as well as Patreon/ShoestringTV. Now that show I highly recommend!
